John Lund Out at The GAME

Veteran LOS ANGELES sports talker DAVE SMITH is joining ALPHA BROADCASTING Sports KXTG-A (750 THE GAME)/PORTLAND for noon-3p (PT), replacing JOHN LUND, who ALPHA says is leaving the station "for a SAN FRANCISCO sports radio position" which ALL ACCESS hears is likely to be ENTERCOM Sports KBWF (SPORTSRADIO 95.7FM). SMITH starts at THE GAME JULY 11th; most recently afternoon host at LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM Sports KLAA-A (AM 830)/ORANGE-LOS ANGELES, SMITH has been heard on several LOS ANGELES stations, including KMPC-A, KLAC-A and KMAX, and worked at SPORTING NEWS RADIO.

ugh..Lund was awful. I didn't like what he had to say and he had this gargly sound at the back of his throat 1/2 the time..

like he needed to clear his throat but wouldn’t.
I’d only listen to him if he was going to interview someone.

Either way this station is losing listeners fast and is definitely not the model of stability and continuity. Too much talent turnover along with switching back to AM radio as well as relying on horrible sports insiders…. ahem (J.Quick).

I have to admit that I used to listen to it a lot on 95.5.

I think I’ve listened once since the switch (during the draft). The signal is weak and staticy in my car.

I'm wondering how they are doing now.

I used to know a bunch of people that used to listen and just don’t anymore for reasons listed above. I also have a buddy that only listened because of Jim Rome. So needless to say, he doesn’t listen anymore either. That AM switch may be the death of that station. And if the Blazers find a way out of that contract, wow. They’ll do well when the Ducks play, and the little pocket of Timbers fans. Bt that’s it.

John seems like a good thoughtful guy. It’s irritating that you can’t even mention any of the radio guys in town without this site absolutely mauling them. Are any of these guys perfect? Course not. But I don’t see why people have to be so hateful of all of them.

when Chad leaves the station. the guys that read traffic/weather and give the updates before commercial breaks are all horrible. So hard to listen to this station sometimes. Glad Acie (sp?) Coleman is gone. Chad will be the only host left with any personality or talent.

Lund took me a moment to warm up to but I liked him alright. I did find a few things irritating, such as interrupting/silencing people as they’re trying to finish their opposing viewpoint, However, I wish John Lund the best in his new position.

I tried to like The Game

I really really did. 95.5 was very addictive at first with so many local shows, and there honestly was a lot of local portland sport news at the time of its inception, but the shows just got boring, and aggravating.

1080 isn’t great, or a whole lot better honestly, but if anything they are consistent.

I've had the feeling that the game is heading to lose the blazers contract

First all the guys employed by the blazers leave. Then you started hearing cracks on canzano on court side. The biggie was going to AM because as I understand, most teams want their broadcasts on fm. Then the dodger contract out of no where and now were getting LA hosts. Seems like a sinking ship

Lund was funny at times and had a light hearted take on most things

But his constant gargle was annoying and, for as much as he talked NBA, he really did not have a good knowledge of the game. Kenny V, for an obnoxious blowhard, was much more knowledgable about the NBA and Blazers.

Getting Worse and Worse

I used to be a daily listener when this station was on FM, but now rarely check it out.
Lund was decent but not great. From what I’ve heard of this Smith guy he’s absolutely terrible. I agree with the others who suggested they try and bring back Vance.
And of course put this station back on FM.
I still don’t understand why they moved their political propaganda station to FM and the sports station to AM. I especially loved the way the games sounded in FM stereo.
