Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

-Portland has your rights since 2006. Is that a good destination to jump to the American League?
Freeland: Yes, but I do not think about that yet. I'm focused on Unicaja and the contract I have with them. Maybe if I have another good year I would think about it, because my dream, like all basketball players, is to play in the NBA. If I have the opportunity and can get minutes I´ll go, but with no hurry. I´m only 24 years and still have room for improvement.

- But is it not strange that Portland is including your name in transfer negotiations when you have not even had the opportunity to play with them? Does not seem to be treated like a commodity?
Freeland: It is admittedly a little weird, but they can do whatever they want with my rights because are theirs. I would like the opportunity to play there because they are a good team, in a great city and has very involved and passionate fans.

Me too.

The stumbling block seems to be minutes. Freeland appears to fancy himself a starter from day one (the word minutes seems to pop up often), and as long as Oden is still around, he’s going to have a rough time achieving that goal in Portland.

As a big man. He needs to stop worrying and just come over.

You’re going to get minutes as a big man in Portland, it’s practically guaranteed with how injury prone our frontcourt is.

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

Too true.

I would think that if Oden is our #1 option at center, there would be plenty of room for Freeland, but it would seem he thinks otherwise. Maybe it really is just a contract thing, and he’ll make the trip for 2012-13; I hope so, although I haven’t seen enough to make a real assessment of his potential.

Am I correct?

The wording is weird. Freeland speaks English. It is then translated into Spanish. Then back into English. I wonder if some of the nuances are lost. Just wondering.

Being 'over the hill' is much better than being under it!

You´re probably correct.

According to Freelands Draftexpress profile: “Freeland apparently learns everything extremely quickly (except speaking Spanish).”
