'Dre Appreciation Thread
This thread is all about the greatness that is Andre Miller.
I am going to be honest, Andre has been my favorite Blazers for the past two seasons. He wasn't flashy, he didn't have the most interesting personality, he wasn't engaging, he didn't care much for the media, he didn't have a Twitter account; but he had so much more.
I like his quiet personality.
I like his old school aproach to the game
I like his unsefish style of play.
I like that he lives with his mom in the offseason
I like that he has an afro during training camp
I like the lobs.
I like the dunk.
I like his professionalism during the Roy fiasco earlier this year.
I like that he doesn't like Jason Quick.
I like his post up game.
I like Andre Miller.
I do not believe he received a chant during his time in Portland, I hope he gets one when the Denver Nuggets come into town.

thank you for that Link
I’ve watched it before but I was so pleased to see it again, I am really gonna miss Miller. He was super, and I’ll always be a fan of the guy. I really hope he does well.
My favorite memory of Dre
is his unflappable leadership. He alone led this team through the injuries to Brandon and Greg. Did his numbers jump off the page cuz they were so high? No…but without his leadership, LMA probably would not have progressed as fast or as far as he has. Without Dre, we would still be trying the Iso offense on every possession. His leadership carried the team to 50 and 48 wins, when the face of the frachise went down with blown out and irreparable knees.
SO long Andre, you will be missed by Portland. But at least you get to go back to Denver and I know those fans will love to have you back.

He loved this team…and it’ll hurt to leave. we love you, Andre…you’ll hear it too when you’re next in the Rose Garden. hope you hit the all-time top 10 assists record in Denver. we will be rooting for you!

Yep
Just seeing him doing the “can you believe that?” dance on Roy’s 4-point play was worth the price of admission. I hope that after Andre finally retires, the Blazers offer him a coaching position.

I'm going to say that alley-oop with Batum to win the game against Dallas in the RG
To me, that was such a difficult pass on a side out 30 feet away from the basket, yet, it was a perfect pass exactly where it needed to be. It was clutch and a thing of beauty. It typifies exactly why Miller is generally regarded as the best lob passer in NBA history.

This is my favorite moment too.
But it was against San Antonio, not against Dallas.
In Philadelphia and in Denver were regretted that they parted with Miller.
I feel that the same will happen in Portland.
that was my choice too
although I love the dunk

My favorite Blazer pg of all time.
My favorite moment has to be the 52 on Dallas, probably none of which were 3 pointers(idk). The definition of a gritty veteran, I hate to see him go.
I love Andre
LOVE LOVE LOVE the way he plays the game. A pleasure to watch. When the Blazers were in a blowout or playing a crappy team, sometimes I would just let my eyes follow only Andre on the court. He is an incredibly entertaining, smart, savvy, gutty, and AWESOME.

a lot of barren stretches. He seemed to be the only guy mentally tough enough to go and get points when our offense stalled at times. He will do good in Denver as a mentor to Lawson.

when we got dre, i wasn’t immediately on board. but did he ever win me over. focused leadership, toughness, veteran gnarliness (hi blake!), killer lobs, minimal ego tripping… a real pro. thank you, andre, for doing your thing in portland. you will be remembered fondly here in oregon.

I will miss him,
but I hope Felton fills some needs with his shooting beyond the arc. Andre never was going to get out of Nate’s doghouse, so short of firing Nate (my wish), sending Andre for another PG was probably the best scenerio. At least we got younger. Felton could blossom here.
man, i feel deflated
it would have been really nice to see what he could do with a healthy roster.
i voted for the dunk.

Without Miller
we would not have made the playoffs this year. He won quite a few games for us in the middle of the season. Thank you Dre.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

Not taking crap from Griffin was my favorite
I loved knowing that Miller would be on the court every night, that I could look forward to Aldridge spinning to the rim to receive a beautiful oop from Dre, and that he finally beat out the significantly inferior Steve Blake for the starting job in a very tight race!
dre was definitely on of my favorite blazers
his wily, straight outta compton style is something i will always enjoy. unfortunately, he never got a minute of peace in portland from trade rumors and crazy chases for a mythical PGotF.
How about the most incredibly lob pass I've ever seen to beat the spurs?
Perfect analogy for Miller: doing the things that nobody talks about but if you take a step back and watch closely are truly incredible

I know that getting a young PG was important
But I wanted Miller to retire a Blazer. We can only hope that Denver waives him and we can sign him again (both very doubtful)
Just don’t dunk on any Blazers!
Apparently George Karl loves him some Andre Miller.

My favorite moment was Dre CLAPPING at the end of the Miami game
That and his timely offensive rebounds and tough plays around the hoop against bigger players. I wasn’t a huge fan initially. I saw too many forced shots and UGLY 180 degree turn-arounds that barely hit iron. But he gradually figured out how and when he had to force the deal and I grew to appreciate the rest of his game and old school leadership.

Andre will be missed
Just a straight-up baller. Maybe the most underrated and underappreciated player in the NBA. Was really hard to choose a favorite moment. 52, the dunk, taking down Griffin, the lob… all great moments that are great examples of the type of player Andre is—a guy who does what it takes to win, to lead his team when they need leadership. When it comes down to it ’Dre is just a bad mutha…

I liked Miller...
….I’m not really convinced there are too many players like him left in the world. He was pprofessional, lead by example, and simply did more than you would have a right to expect.
I didn’t agree with everything he said, or everything he did ( I was in the minority of those that did not think Body Slamming Blake Griffin was wonderful)….
But Andre Miller got the job done. And more often than not, and in some trying times, he achieved more for this team than you would expect.
Given the circumstance? I’m not sure this team doesn’t implode the past two seasons without Andre Miller around….
Thanks Andre….you did a great job during your time here…
"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"

The Attitude
The Confrontation
There you have it. My favorite was the confrontation with Nate.
"Every time I make one, it always feels like the first time," Roy said. "I was just so excited and so blessed to make a shot like that. It never gets old, it always feels like the first time. I was excited and the fans cheering, teammates jumping up and down."

He took awhile to warm up to...
… but he ended up being one of my favorite players. It used to bother me that he seemed so “unemotional” at times but it ended up making his displays of emotion — after the San Antonio lob, for example, and after the Game 4 win against the Mavs — all the sweeter.
I loved watching him post up younger guys and somehow fake his way to the hoop.
Miller is old school in the best sense of the term.
I hope we can do an “An-dre Mill-er” clap clap clap-clap-clap the next time we see him take the court at the Rose Garden. He’s all about being professional — and therefore probably too “professional” to read a fan appreciation thread like this, I guess — but I would really like for him to know how much he was appreciated around here.
Been a fan since his Utah days
Good luck Dre, you’ll be missed

Dre was by far my favorite Blazer for the past two years.
I was always enamored with Nic Batum’s potential and his silky smooth style of play, but Dre’s old school, team first, no messing around style of play really made me love and respect him as a player.
Dre,
I will miss your lobs to LMA, your post ups on smaller guards, the way you were always so in control yet looked so relaxed. You are the smartest man on the court wherever you play and I thank you for giving me two wonderful years of great, team oriented, fundamental basketball.
The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

I'm disgusted by this trade
I understand why it was done, but I’m not happy about it. To think he’s younger than JKidd was when he was traded to Dallas, and in all likelihood, Dre will have a longer career than JKidd. We made a mistake. If Smith is really our guy, we could have drafted him anyway. Or we could have had Faried, who is desperately what we need. Seems like we could have also had the #26 pick in exchange for Rudy.
A little like when we had Rod Strickland, a great pure PG that you don’t realize how important he was till he’s gone.
I’m convinced there’s no strategy whatsoever on the team-building front, only passing whims.

Total rec
every word of it. Dre gets undervalued because he’s not the most athletic and doesnt have the best shot. But he plays hard and his off the charts BBIQ makes up for a lot of his perceived shortcomings. 18 career PER and Top 15 All Time in Assists is a hell of a career, and you have to be very good to accomplish this. Denver’s gain is our loss.

as i was sulking today, i remembered something else that was awesome about Miller
he really didn’t mince words. i especially liked what he had to say about Aldridge getting snubbed for all-star game:
"LA was supposed to make it. He was supposed to make it,’’ Miller continued. "We have a better record than those guys (the 19-29 Clippers), and LA is putting up just as good numbers. Now, you are not going to see a lot of highlights - Blake Griffin highlights and stuff like that - but they are giving these young guys too much respect. Too much respect to the young guys. It’s good for him personally; I’m not no hater. But I am biased toward my teammate. No. 1, we have better record, and No. 2, (Aldridge) is just as good and he has paid his dues.’’

This sums up what Miller is about,
it should be green. Playing basketball the way it’ supposed to be played without looking for accolades and talking about “your game.” Standing up for what’s true, not necessarily popular and not caring about hurting feelings. Supporting your teammates when they’re kicking a$$ and kicking a$$ when it’s deserved to make YOUR team better…
Andre is pro and not because other people say so. Because his game says so!

Andre Miller: The most dependable guy the Blazers have seen in recent years
He held this team together single handedly the last 2 seasons. Thanks Dre! No matter what PG we get, he won’t be able to take a team on his back like Andre Miller.
I thought Rudy would be the perfect 6th man. Come back Ruuudy!
miller held a team together that had been savaged by injuries.
unfortunately we never got to see miller play any extended time with a healthy oden, or even a healthy roy. i am one of those who beleive that if roy still had knees he would have around to the benefits of playing with miller. oden~~wasn’t he the real reason that the blazers went after miller?
he never got his team into the second round of the playoffs, and the reason for that vary a bit. several of those teams would never have been in the playoffs without him, including the blazers and the sixers team that iverson and chris webber destroyed. denver was never andre’s team as his arrival dovetailed with carmelo anthony.
he was an old school type player who relied on basketball smarts and guile to do what he did. people don’t remember that he led the league in assists in cleveland with an awful squad. iggy in philly said often andre was the best guard he had ever played with. even with all the acrimony that andre feels for george karl because of the iverson trade, karl still admires him.
sad that he wasn’t accepted by many here in portland who had chris paul dreams. andre gave you want you should expect from a pro player. he played with professionalism, and put the team ahead of himself. he was very instruemental in aldridge’s vast improvement this season, and lamarcus would be the first to credit him with that.
i wish we could have seen him for a full season with a healthy squad.
i wish we could have seen him for a full season with a healthy squad.
Yeah me too. This Blazers team did very well considering the devastating injuries and inconsistencies with the younger players. It was just Oden & ROy’s injuries either; it was Camby missing extended time then becoming ineffective upon his return; it was Pryz injury and ineffectiveness. Basically, our interior defense was poor last season. We never really had a chance to advance unless we had one of the upper level stars at the point.
Felton isnt going to change any of this I’m afraid.

Andre Miller
Such a pro’s pro. Miller was cut from the John Stockton cloth and hardly any guys are anymore.
His game awareness and ability to see angles was huge. Unfortunately very few guards understand the game well enough to makes post passes on time and actually lead the player into the play.
Andre knew those things and it showed. LA will be playing that Felton is 3/4’s as good a point as Miller was.
Anyone else surprised it took essentially Rudy and Miller to get Felton? Though I understand the move Miller and a 1st round pick (Rudy) seems steep.

Not at all. I’m actually surprised we could procure a first round pick for Rudy after the horrible season he had, with the back issues and possibility of returning to Spain after this season if he doesnt get a big enough raise.

getting the pick was good,
throwing it in on the Felton deal, when we could have used it to get Smith, also giving us Faried with 21st, was not so good.

My best Dre memory
Unfortunately doesn’t come from Rip City, but I feel you’ll appreciate the story nonetheless.
I was growing up in Salt Lake City (hopefully I haven’t lost you on that point), and Andre Miller was one of the biggest names in the state when the Utes were dominating college basketball in the West. In the summer of 1998 after the championship game, my friend and I were at a minor league baseball game and the stadium runs up next to the road (1300 South). A red convertible corvette (or some sports car type thing) rolls up and stops at the light. My friend nudges me and says, “Hey that’s Andre Miller in the passenger seat!” We look, and sure enough it’s him. We were 14 years old at the time, and I was just another nervous white kid in Salt Lake, but I yelled “HEY! ANDRE!” and he looked over and said “What up kid?”, the light turned green, the convertible started to roll, and he reached out his hand and I high fived him.
It was simple, it didn’t matter to anyone else, but it was the best thing he could’ve done. He made my day. It was the epitome of Andre. It was perfect.
You could say, metaphorically, that Andre rolled up to Portland in his red convertible, the crowd acknowledged him with a “Hey! Andre!”, he looked over, high fived them, and rolled on through the light.

This is the way I will always picture Andre now.
that season they played arizona in what i think was the western regional final.
arizona was a prohibitive betting favorite, and andre hung a triple double on i think it was jason terry’s head. utah would go on to play in championship game and lead kentucky for the first 35 minutes, but lose in the end
