Givony: Blazers Trading For Magic G Jameer Nelson?

259
Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com reports... ---------------------- Hearing Portland and Orlando are talking about swapping Andre Miller and Jameer Nelson, with the #21 pick going to Orlando. ---------------------- Zach Lowe of SI.com with some thoughts... ---------------------- The salaries work straight up, so no other players need be included in this theoretical deal. The trade feels like a lateral move for Orlando, assuming they pick up Miller's non-guaranteed contract for 2012; if they don't, they're handing the point guard keys to Gilbert Arenas, and that's just too risky, even if Otis Smith loves him and Dwight Howard thinks he should have played more in the postseason. It would knock a bit of money off their long-term cap sheet, though. The Blazers would be adding a legit floor-spacer in Nelson, something they sorely need. But they'd also be committing themselves to even more long-term money, since Nelson will earn $7.8 million next season and has a player option for the same amount in 2012-13. But Portland's ownership (Paul Allen) is loaded, and an amnesty clause could be a game-changer for the Blazers. The post-season showed us the Western Conference is there for the taking, and the Blazers aren't far from getting into that mix. ---------------------- Update: Here are my thoughts. Read the Orlando side from Evan Dunlap at Orlando Pinstriped Post here. Update: Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports: "An NBA source indicated to the Orlando Sentinel that the report is being overblown — at least for now. -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
