I brought this to the forum last week and heard a lot of reasons why it would not happen. However, it appears that a trade with Utah might actually happen as it serves the needs of both teams. Millsap/Harris for Matthews/Miller seems like a logical trade for both teams. We bolster our frontline with Millsap and get the younger at point guard with Harris - both players we have coveted in the past. This tells me that the front office must feel that both would fit in while from a style/personality stand point.
Personally I think Harris may be the safest option for us to get to replace Miller. Going after one of the upper level draft picks is a higher risk/reward proposition - so I guess it really depends how much the team wants to roll the dice. Miller seems to be a better fit for the Jazz at the 1 as well. Especially with a Jimmer, Kemba or Knight coming on board there.
Millsap gives you the bruiser that we have wanted to add next to LMA. If Oden returns this season and is able to contribute our frontline will become one of the deeper and more talented in the league. If not, we can still hold our own with a Millsap/LMA/Camby plus young prospect front line.
Losing Matthews would hurt, but I still have faith that BRoy will re-invent his game and be able to contribute at the 2. With Rudy, possibly Elliot Williams and some backcourt minutes from Batum, I think we have some additional depth at that position. i believe that the Jazz would love to have Matthews back and have him join their group of young talent as they go through a re-tooling. With the #3 and #12 picks it appears that Utah will add a PG and some additional front line talent. Currently they are a little light on young talent at the wing positions.
The rumors are out there. Will it happen?
God bless our Blazers!
