2011 Blazers Offseason Player Thoughts #1 - L-Train (2015 - The Greatest Blazer)
Question: Could LaMarcus Aldridge, at the end of his current 4 year contract, already be regarded as the greatest Blazer of all-time?

Facts:
- 2010-2011 All-NBA Third Team
- Career LaMarcus Aldridge stats: 6547 points, 2831 rebounds, 1068 off rebounds, 386 blocks, 303 steals, 633 assists.
- 2010-2011 LaMarcus Aldridge stats: 1769 points, 709 rebounds, 278 off rebounds, 94 blocks, 82 steals, 170 assists.
- LaMarcus Aldridge is signed as a Blazer for the next 4 years for a total of $56.256 million. That's an average of $14.064 million /year.

Blazers Career Point Scorers
#13 LaMarcus Aldridge 6547(0 points behind)
#12 Kiki Vanderweghe 6698(151)
#11 Damon Stoudamire 6745 (198)
#10 Kevin Duckworth 7188 (641)
#9 Sidney Wicks 8882 (2335)

#8 Rasheed Wallace 9119 (2572)
#7 Mychal Thompson 9215(2668)
#6 Geoff Petrie 9732(3185)
#5 Jim Paxson 10003(3456)
#4 Jerome Kersy 10067(3520)
#3 Cliff Robinson 10405(3858)
#2 Terry Porter 11330(4783)
#1 Clyde Drexler 18040(11493)
LaMarcus scored 1769 points this past year. He should become the #10 Blazers scorer somewhere before Christmas this year, needing only 641 points.
In 2 years time, I expect LaMarcus Aldridge should be challenging for #4 all-time on the list. He needs 3521 points in the next 2 seasons to overtake Jersome Kersy at #4, or roughly 1760/1761 points each of the two seasons. That is an achievable goal that LA should be seeking to achieve.
For him to claim the number #2 all-time Blazers scorer, he needs 4783 points. If he plays the next 4 seasons with the Blazers, he needs to avg. just 1196 points/ season. For Aldridge to claim the #2 spots in the next 3 seasons, he will need to avg. 1595 points /year.
Being 11,493 points behind Clyde, I don't think he will become the Blazers all-time leading scorer this contract.

Blazers Career Total Rebounds
#14 LaMarcus Aldridge 2831(0 behind)
#13 Joel Pryzbilla 2872 (41)
#12 Maurice Lucas 2876 (45)
#11 Zach Randolph 2985 (54)
#10 Kevin Duckworth 3327 (496)
#9 Cliff Robinson 3352 (521)
#8 Lloyd Neal 3370 (539)
#7 Arvydas Sabonis 3436 (605)
#6 Rasheed Wallace 3797 (966)
#5 Sidney Wicks 4086 (1255)
#4 Buck Williams 4861 (2030)
#3 Mychal Thompson 2878 (2047)
#2 Jerome Kersey 5078 (2247)
#1 Clyde Drexler 5339 (2508)
LaMarcus tallied 709 total rebounds. At the end of next season, I expect LaMarcus to be #7 on the all time Blazers career rebounding list, needing only 606 rebounds to pass Arvydas Sabonis on the list.
After the following season(2012-2013), I expect that LaMarcus Aldridge should be #5 on the list.
For him to become the All-time career Blazers rebounder, he needs 2509 rebounds. For him to do that during this 4 year contract, he will need to avg. 628 rebounds/year the next 4 years.
His past 3 years rebounding totals:
'10-11: 709 rebounds'09-10: 627 rebounds
'08-09: 605 rebounds
628 rebounds/year for 4 years to become the Blazers leading rebounder.

Blazers Career Offensive Rebounds
#6 LaMarcus Aldridge 1068(0 points behind)
#5 Kevin Duckworth 1163 (95)
#4 Mychal Thompson 1489 (421)
#3 Buck Williams 1694 (626)
#2 Jerome Kersey 1900 (832)
#1 Clyde Drexler 2227 (1159)
LaMarcus Aldridge Off Rebounds by Year:
Rookie '06-07: 144 off rebounds
'07-08: 220 off rebounds
'08-09: 234 off rebounds
'09-10: 192 off rebounds
'10-11: 279 off rebounds
To become #2 on the Blazers Off Rebounding all-time career leaders, he would need 833 off rebounds. That breaks down to 209 off rebounds each of the next 4 years. Looking at what he's done the past 4 years, if he stays healthy, that doesn't look like an issue.
To become the Blazers all-time career Off Rebounding leader, he would need 1160 off rebounds. For LaMarcus to achieve that during his current contract, he would need to avg. 285 off rebounds a season. This is just 6 more than he had last season. If he improved in this area just slightly, I think that this is in sight for this contract. Goal.

These aren't video game numbers, these our records.

Blazers Career Blocks
#11 LaMarcus Aldridge 386(0 behind)
#10 Theo Ratliff 387 (1)
#9 Wayne Cooper 425 (39)
#8 Arvydas Sabonis 494 (108)
#7 Bill Walton 533 (147)
#6 Clyde Drexler 594 (208)
#5 Joel Pryzbilla 607 (221)
#4 Jerome Kersey 622 (236)
#3 Rasheed Wallace 693 (307)
#2 Cliff Robinson 726 (340)
#1 Mychal Thompson 768 (382)
LaMarcus Aldridge Career Blocks:
'10-11: 94 blocks
'09-10: 48 blocks
'08-09: 77 blocks
'07-08: 94 blocks
'06-07: 73 blocks
If you use his average of 77.2 blocks/year, for the next 4 years, you get 309 blocks. That puts him ahead of Jerome Kersey and Sheed, at #3 all-time in blocks as a Blazer.
For LaMarcus Aldridge to become the Blazers all-time leader in blocks he needs 382 blocks. At his current pace this will take 5 seasons to become the leader. For LaMarcus Aldridge to become the all-time leader during this contract, he will need to avg. 96 blocks/season for the next 4 years. While this is possible, as he's had 2 seasons with 94 blocks, he'd need to bring it for the next 4 years to avg. these 96 blocks/season and become the all-time Blazers block leader.

Blazers Career Steals
#21 LaMarcus Aldridge 303 (0 behind)
#20 Brandon Roy 332 (29 *still an active Blazer)
#19 Arvydas Sabonas 370 (67)
#18 Ruben Patterson 384 (81)
#17 Dave Twardzik 396 (93)
#16 Scottie Pippen 417 (114)
#15 Bonzi Wells 420 (117) *of course Bonzi would stop at that number
#14 Buck Williams 424 (121)
#13 Darnell Valentine 494 (191)
#12 Mychal Thompson 504 (201)
#11 Rod Strickland 508 (207)
#10 Rasheed Wallace 555 (252)
#9 Damon Stoudamire 556 (253)
#8 Bob Gross 593 (290)
#7 Lionel Hollins 598 (295)
#6 Cliff Robinson 696 (393)
I think a reasonable target is 75 steals/season, after he's had 82/67/77 the past 3 seasons.
4 seasons @ 75 steals/season = 300 more steals.
That puts LaMarcus Aldridge at 603 steals, or #7 all-time in Blazers steals.

Summary:
If LaMarcus Aldridge can avg better than these over the course of his 4 year deal:
1200 points/season -> #2 all-time leading Blazer scorer
628 rebounds/season -> All-time leading Blazer rebounder
285 off rebounds/season -> All-time leading Blazer off-rebounder (209 off rebounds/season -> #2 All-time leading Blazer in off rebounder)
96 blocks/season -> All-time leading Blazer in blocks (77 blocks/season -> #3 All-time leading Blazer in blocks)
75 steals/season -> #7 All-time leading Blazer in steals

If he stay's healthy and he isn't traded, then he goes down as one of the All-Time Blazer greats.

So, where do you think LaMarcus finishes in our all-time greats?

Outstanding!!!!!!!!!1
Fantastic Article. There is no reason to not believe how we should build this team moving forward. Build around and support Aldridge. And Aldridge will be under 30 by that next contract for the PRIME of his career. Sky’s the limit for this guy.
We need to stop making him something he’s not and realize how good he really is. He’s not Tim Duncan but man, if we can Wes and 1 or 2 more guys are added who can shoot to make it easier. Imagine what it would be like if we had a Stockton/Porter type point guard to get him the ball. Andre is good at what he does, but if he could hit a 3pt, then LMA would have more room to score.
Its been an absolute joy watching him develop. He’ll never be a 30pt guy, but man 25-12reb is totally in the future if we can find guys who can pass and shoot to support him. If only Rudy and Batum could have made 2-3 wide open shots more each per game against Dallas and we could have won that series.
I can’t wait to see how his career ends up. We just need to find a #2 guy and Roy could be that guy next year if he becomes a knock down outside threat.
Go blazers
please don't jinx anything. this article is getting ahead of itself
but great job anyway
