Pau Gasol

Rumor has it... If the L*kers fall to the Mavs in the second round, they'll be looking to re-build once again around Koby, keeping just one of their big men.  If this happens... Do the blazers make an off-season move for Pau Gasol?  Despite his failure to show up in the '11 playoffs, the advantages of adding this guy to our rotation are obvious (ie can play both PF and C, chemistry with Rudy, etc..).

Thoughts?

I think it would be a good fit if we think Oden is not going to work.

One problem I have is if it requires a trade I don’t think there is a snowball’s chance we could get LA to trade with us. Maybe 3rd party?

"Every time I make one, it always feels like the first time," Roy said. "I was just so excited and so blessed to make a shot like that. It never gets old, it always feels like the first time. I was excited and the fans cheering, teammates jumping up and down."

Pau

is super talented (although not exactly showing in this year’s playoffs) but I just can’t fathom him in a Trail Blazers uniform. The epitome of a Laker. Also I believe number 24 spells his name Kobe.

I heard Magic Johnson say that.

That makes it less of a “rumor” and more of a total uncertainty IMO.

wha??

Who would the Blazers trade for him?

The Blazers would probably have to package either Roy, Camby, or Wallace for him with a combination of other players for the salaries to match. So out of those 3 who would you want to give up? Ideally Brandon Roy but there’s no way that the Lakers would take Roy’s contract if they’re trying to rebuild. You could make the argument for them taking Camby because he only has 2 years on his contract. But Kobe probably doesn’t have that many years left of playing at a high level. But out of the three options this would seem to be the most likely. They shouldn’t trade Wallace because he’s clearly the second best player they have. Yes, Gasol is better than him but Wallace brings to the Blazers what they need. Gasol is soft and in the unlikely event that this would actually happen then either him or LaMarcus would have to play the 5 which they both hate doing.

The way Stern the NBA works is different than this idea.

Lakers trade players like Javaris Crittendon for Pau.
Not Pau for expiring contracts and filler.

I fully expect the Lakers rebuilding process to consist of trading Shannon Brown, Luke Walton and a retiring Fisher for Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin and the Clipper’s first round pick in 2012. Clippers will get a spare key to the laundry room and 1 million in cash.

and saved them a ton of money, which they used to pay Randolph.

Still a home run trade for LA, but like you say, it worked out well for Memphis also.

long live the jd.

pau is....

1) too soft. hence why he isnt a true center
2) over paid (especially compared to Aldridge)
3) a former L*ker
4) not what the Blazers are looking for.
            a) Blazers need a bruiser down low, -Pau is not
            b) they need some outside shooting, -Pau has none
            c) they need more athleticism/speed, -Pau hase very little
            d) a player who can play good defense, -Pau cant
            e) a player who has never played with the L*kers, -Pau has

On the other hand...

Pau is/has
1) Two championship rings which means he knows how to win in the playoffs (and really, how soft can you be as the major low post threat on a championship team?)
2) a reasonably good track record health-wise
3) a decent rebounder
4) not someone you can hedge off of to double on LMA

Who cares if he was a Laker? The weird anti-Laker fanaticism on this site is so 2000. We’re not in a position to be rejecting good players based on where they played in the past.

As for overpaid, isn’t everybody? People here are talking about giving Oden $50M on the chance that he MAY play well again one day. I say if you have a chance to grab a proven commodity like Gasol, you go for it.

Whether he’s actually attainable or not is another question entirely…

absolutely.

for those of you who don’t like that he’s a laker or that he choked in these playoffs, read up on the fact that it’s because he has bad blood with kobe.

hating kobe is a great recommendation for me. it would put him way ahead of martell webster who asked kobe for his shoes after getting beat by the lakers.

He & Kobe have bad blood...

That alone would make you want to look at that…except to quote my man tyeforshee:

            a) Blazers need a bruiser down low, -Pau is not
            b) they need some outside shooting, -Pau has none
            c) they need more athleticism/speed, -Pau hase very little
            d) a player who can play good defense, -Pau cant

I hate Kobe more than the next man…but I guarantee Blazers don’t want me on the roster.

yes, especially since oden wont come back until january

and will be rusty when he does get back.

by the 2012-2013 season, pau might be willing to maybe come off the bench for a fully armed and operational greg oden

Fire Nate; hire Rick Adelman
(time and money cures all wounds)
trade for Iggy

lol

I highly doubt that Pau would be willing to come off the bench

I’d love to have Pau play for my favorite team. Won’t happen though.
