1st Round Picks That Could be Available

Stay connected for news and updates

While much has been made about how bad this draft class is, I think that there will end up being a lot of nice role players coming out of it. The 2009 draft was supposed to be weak while the 2010 was supposed to be very strong. I don't think it turned out that way...

There are usually some teams that look to trade their picks and Portland is always active. Here are some picks that could be traded:

Minnesota #2: The Wolves have been heavily rumored to be looking to trade this pick. Derrick Williams just is not a good fit here (nor is Kyrie Irving). Williams isn't a good fit in Portland either, so I can only see us maybe going after it if Cleveland does not select Irving.

Golden State #11: Golden State has voiced the opinion that they will likely improve through trade and FA, not the draft. That means that this pick could potentially be available. Blazers could target this pick for one of several international big men, including Bismack Biyombo or Donatas Motiejūnas or maybe Markieff Morris. Maybe our pick plus Rudy and cash for this pick.

Houston #14 and #23: Houston has plenty of projects and role players, they don't really need to pick up more here. These picks could be available if we want another one.

Oklahoma City #24: OKC has picked up their fair share of nice young players over the years. I don't think there is room for a rookie in their rotation. I expect them to trade it or grab another European prospect.

Dallas #25: Pretty much the same as OKC. They have a deep, veteran lineup and are looking to win now, a rookie might not be what they want.

Chicago #28 and #30: I fully expect the Bulls to trade at least one of these two picks, probably for cash.

If we can add another pick, that gives us a chance to add some role-players or perhaps a diamond in the rough on the cheap. Or we could move up and grab a potential game-changer. What do you guys think?
