WEEI: Celtics Owner Says Blazers C Greg Oden On His Radar

Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck joined WEEI's Dennis & Callahan show to field some questions about the team and the subject turned to the 2007 NBA Draft and Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden, who is a restricted free agent this summer. Here's a transcript. ------------------------- Greg Oden or Kevin Durant in the 2007 NBA Draft? "Exactly what happened is that [Celtics President] Danny [Ainge] said, 'I'm going to draft Durant.' And I said, 'We're going to need to talk about that.' But we would have gone with Danny's recommendation in the end. And he was right. Well, I don't want to say that. They're both -- I think Oden will actually come back." Is he on your radar screen? "Well, how could he not be? He's like 7'10" or something. He's on the FAA's radar screen." ------------------------- Over on NESN.com, Evans Clinchy has an article encouraging the Celtics to pursue Oden. ------------------------- The Celtics have a chance to guide the former Ohio State Buckeye to a career reclamation. It may sound a little backwards, since the Celtics have already been snakebitten enough by injury-plagued centers, most notably two named O'Neal, but Oden is different. He's a decade younger than Jermaine O'Neal, and 16 years Shaq's junior. He's got time to turn things around. He needs a new environment, a new medical staff and a new lease on life. ------------------------- -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
