Draft Drawer 5-24-11

So the lottery has happened, measurements of players is done, and now it's time to look for what we need and who we can realistically target. Here is a list of a few players that I would like to see us target, I've narrowed our search to PG and PF/C because those are by far the biggest positional needs for our current incarnation of the Blazers.

Nikola Vucevic: Vucevic is the longest man in this years draft. Standing at 7'0" tall in shoes and weighing in at 260 lbs, he is a classic big man. Another great aspect about him is his 9'4.5" standing height. For the record, that's longer than Greg Oden. Vucevic has a decently well rounded game including a good mid range jumper and hits free throws at a respectable clip. He can rebound, score in the paint and perimeter and with a few years working with Buck Williams and Bill Bayno, he could be a very, very competent backup PF/C for this team. His size alone makes him worth it. Where he will be taken is all over the place currently. Draft Express has us taking him with our 21st pick while most other mock drafts have him going early in the second round (30-40 usually). I wouldn't mind taking him with our first round pick if there is a threat of another team grabbing him in between our pick and the inevitable early second rounder that we seem to buy every year.

Nolan Smith: Smith is a mature combo guard who will be able to contribute immediately. Pegged as a high floor low ceiling guy, he most likely will never be more than a bench player, but he could be a solid backup to Andre Miller if he pans out. He's got good size and will be able to defend most PGs and some SGs. Mock drafts have him going in various places from the low 20s to high 30s.

Reggie Jackson: A former MLB player has decided to enter this year's draft. Oh wait scratch that. This kid is a true point guard in the sense that he looks to set up his team mates first, and not score. He wold be great to run the second unit. Oh did I mention he has an incredible wingspan and decent size making him an ideal defender of NBA guards?

Those are my guys that I want us to target with our 1st round pick. I would be delighted if we could pick up another of the above mentioned players early in the second round or by buying another late 1st rounder (One of Chicago's picks maybe?).

Who do you want Buchanon and co. to take in this draft?
