The 95.5 The Game Appreciation Thread
First they dump Rome, now the news leaks that the station is moving to 750 AM... and some other format entirely is coming to 95.5 ...
I'm not saying that the end is near or anything (well, it IS almost May 21st!!) but clearly the sports-radio-on-FM experiment is over, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were several other changes to their on-air lineup after the switch. And if you listen to the audio from the BFT about why they're making the move, I think it makes sense.
But still... it was just a few short years ago when the station arrived, with the patented David Lee imaging Voice of God telling us about "NINETY-FIVE FIVE... *** THE GAAAAAAME.***
[by the way, it's THIS David Lee, not THAT David Lee.]
A small part of me is sad that this transition is happening.
I'm sure I'll be over it in an hour or so.
But for now... enjoy the official 95.5 The Game appreciation thread.

What this means (I think)
AM 750 is a blowtorch, and the Game is basically “all local” now. To me this means that they are going for a broader appeal beyond the immediate Portland metro area. Kind of like a radio equivalent of an RSN. Smart move in my opinion.
I know the Rome listeners are upset, but this is happening all over the country, and his listeners will end up following him to satellite or the internet anyway. Plus his shtick can easily be time shifted in a way that actually broadens his fan base.
I didn’t hear what the clown had to say about it, and I don’t care. He is the one change that needs to be made in order for me to go back to the Game. In the afternoon. When I drive home from work. hint. hint.

Yes, the afternoon drive needs a serious remodel.
They have had terrible programming for a while.
Rome was really stale, though.

When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
In other words, The Game is going down the drain.
It has been for a while now.
THIS ^^^^^
AM sounds like crap. First 101 is gone now this? Looks like I finally have to buy a mp3 car adapter.

the thing that confuses me
is the “the Game” move, a byproduct of the KXL move to FM, or did they move KXL to make for “the Game”?
Personally, it makes no sense to move KXL to FM in the first place, and now that they’re moving “the Game” to AM, myself, and everyone else that listens to it on mp3 players (not Ipods, or smart phones) won’t be able to listen to sports talk.

I don't like this at all...
Dumping Rome is dandy by me. I’m so tired of his act!
However, going to AM is bad news. I like the sound quality of FM so much more, and, neither of my car radios will pick up AM for some reason-wonder why that is?
I move back and forth from work in C. Oregon (where I can’t get Pdx stations anyway) to the Pdx area. When I’m in Pdx, I’ve either got the radio on 95.5, the jazz station, or OPB. On the East side and en route, I’ve got satellite radio with tons of station choices. For sports, it’s usually Mad Dog radio, seldom ESPN for some of the same reasons I don’t listen to Rome.
I’m happy that people in Boise may be able to list to the Fan, but sad I won’t be able to…
I think this is hogwash.
If it’s so much better being on the AM dial, how come they spent so much time talking about how superior they were as an FM station when they first started? And if the 750 slot was so great, why didn’t they keep KXL there? They moved it to FM and couldn’t stop talking about how great it was.
What irks me is I listen to the radio on a FM radio/MP3 player through headphones at work. I work in an old concrete building and I move around a lot, and people I work with usually have music on other radio’s around me. I can’t stand hearing multiple radios in the same area as it just turns into noise, so I’ve spent the last couple years with my headphones plugged in not bothering anyone else with my talk radio, and not having to hear KGON every day either.
My player doesn’t have an AM tuner. I am not going to spend all day listening to the game on my phone. They are trying to spin this like they will reach a broader audience, but I think it’s a load. I guess I’ll be a little less informed about what’s happening with the Blazers, though there is plenty of fluff and crap you have to wade through and I’m not the biggest fan of the personalities on the station. Still, they say they’re going for a bigger audience, but they’ve lost me as a listener simply on practicality.
I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way.
