Bynum suspended for 5 games and fined 25K
Bynum suspended for 5 games and fined 25K for the flagrant on Barea. Not nearly enough for me. Not after what he did to GW, Michael Beasley and Barea, I feel the League should have made a bigger statement. He made no play on the ball in any of these and could end someone's career. If he can't play defense without driving elbows into defenseless opponents going to the basket, sit him for half a season and give him time to think about it.
And yes, I would feel the same way if it was Oden, although I may be the biggest l@aker hater anywhere.
Turns out that the fine was for taking off his jersey and not for the for the foul, what a joke. I wouldn't have been satisfied with $100k.

I was calling for 10 games, but he wasn’t smoking a joint or challenging a ref to a fight, so no dice
"There's my Chippy"
Eh.
At the very least, it’s more than double his most recent suspension. Given Bynum’s history, he could easily end up suspended again, which would likely lead to something major.
The only sad part is that we’ll have to wait for the inevitable for Bynum to get a larger suspension. The dude clearly doesn’t care about his actions (I don’t buy for a second that “remorse” junk written today, he’s clearly just trying to rebuild his public image).
"Hey! If the moon were made of ribs, wouldja eat it? I know I would!"
agreed
5 games does not send the “unacceptable” message. I thought 10 games would have been appropriate.
Then again, no player’s ever gotten more than 6-games for an on-court, non-fighting incident.
M, period. Fresh, comma.
The only reason this was non-fighting
was because no one on Dallas fought back.
If someone on Dallas had given him what he deserved, he’d have fought back, and been out for 10 or more games.
Odds are, in reality part of the comment above this signature is wrong, but since I know it is right, I'll defend it to the death. Contradict me at your peril. Never believe that having the facts on your side will make a bit of difference.
Hmm, yeah, 5 games is kinda weak.
So is that chump change fine. Unfortunately the league is willing to wait for him to seriously injure a player levy out something significant. It’s curious from reading the Laker’s blogs they see this as an isolated, one-time event. They conveniently block out the Wallace and Beasley incidents.
The 25,000 was for taking his shirt off
He also doesn’t get paid those five games so he loses over 700,000

Yeah I was gonna say thats a big time fine
5 games is a lot of money coming out of his pocket. The things I could do with 700,000…
$700,000?
I think I’d do what most people would…
1) Settle my debts (mortgage, education)
2) Buy a car (and probably a 3rd bike)
3) Travel (always wanted to go to Chile)
Beyond those three things, I dunno, I might get another dog (I only actually have one—not 500). I’d like to do a study on what lottery winners tend to spend their winnings on, because I feel like this list is pretty common for folks that suddenly come into large sums of money.

Post-Sheen list...
1) Develop obscene drug habit.
2) Begin several loveless relationships.
3) Watch my career nosedive as the entire world mocks the self-obsessed idiot I’ve become.
Stealth > Wealth
Your list looks just like mine.
Except I’d like to go to Scotland. My wife and I were dreaming of what we’d do with 700k after I read this.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

In the grand scheme of things, $700,000 isn't a whole lot of money. It could go fast, y'know.
Yet, if I raked in $100,000,000 after taxes upon winning the Powerball or Mega Millions, then that’d = good times. One added bonus for me is I reside in Washington and not Oregon like many of y’all, so I wouldn’t have to worry about state income taxes.

Careful...
most lottery winners end up poorer than before they won and much more miserable. Getting money without earning it (i.e. without the discipline also to manage it) is a curse.

After posting that comment, I did lil' Google search, and you're right.
One notable exception was a fella who, upon winning the Powerball, hired a team of financial planners with the goal of turning his 84 million dollar share (after taxes) into a billion within ten years. They’re on track to make it in twelve.
It seems the vast majority of winners take on a set for life mentality without realizing that one would have to be fairly miserly, or incredibly shrewd to make that a reality.
Stealth > Wealth
you wouldn't have to be very miserly to live off of $84M
even if you didn’t make that money work at all, you could blow $20M and live comfortably off of $1M/year for the rest of your life.
How in the HECK do you turn $84 million into a billion in ten years?
OTOH, I’m quite confident that I could turn $84 billion into a million with time to spare.

Twenty-five thousand dollars?
Wasn’t Nate fined more than that for talking?
yeah, Nate was fined 35k. Of course, Bynum will lose 5 games worth of pay, which is very substantial.
long live the jd.
If Bynum was making league minimum, would he have been suspended for more games?
Are they factoring in how much 5 games of lost pay is?

I was expecting 3 days in the stocks, and 30 lashes.
Times are different then when I played. All these crazy contracts leave me shaking my head; I played for my freedom! I blame advertising.
Where caring happens?!? What kinda crap is that? The old slogan was Panem et circenses. Don’t get me started on these team doctors; ever heard of leeches, you quacks?! Send Oden to the barber: that’s where caring happens.
Those were the days. Modern NBA is a bunch of lilly-lipped nipple-twisters. This Bynum savage is a throwback to a simpler era. A runt like Barrea would have been culled at birth.

Honestly.
Who cares. Our guys couldn’t beat the Lakers let alone the Mavericks length in a 7 game series. Thats what Cho should be worried about.
As a fan, yeah its not cool to see this(unless players bring it upon themselves to deserve a dirty foul, which Andrew does… Eh hem, Mr. JPrzybilla, c’mon back now ya hear ? ;) ), but he will get what he deserves in the end. Karma is a #$@ bro.
Bynum. Yeah he is a immature. But thats for Jerry Buss to figure out.
I called it.
wha??

I figured 5 games and a $35,000 fine would be what Andrew Bynum received for this, so I was close.
There are two things that people need to take into account here, though.
1. The maximum fine for a flagrant foul is $35,000.
2. The big financial hit comes in not getting paid for the games a player is suspended.

I can see it now
the league will schedule Portland to play L*A on the 6th game after the lockout is over
Oden vs. Bynum, let the rivalry continue…
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
how nice would it be to see Oden give Bynum a taste of his own medicine
Certainly an appeal of Oden is not being too terrified if things get physically ‘out of control’… whoops
Jordan's not a bad guy.. he gave us Gerald Wallace.
The 6th game?
I figure Oden will begin “basketball related activities” around that time. Let’s hope he doesn’t scrimmage Joel one-on-one this time…
wha??

idk
he looks less chubby then Greg has besides that first year out of Ohio State before the microfracture.
5 games is reasonable.
But it’s just a natural escalation of his previous punishments, it doesn’t necessarily send a stronger message that this will not be tolerated in the future. Missed opportunity, I think.

Should have been 41 games and 35 million

One of these guys is going to have to be sent to the hospital before the NBA gets serious
There’s a big difference between NBA players and NFL players, and I don’t need to see the NBA become football.
Remember how basketball is supposed to be a non-contact sport? ahahahaha
I hope someone doesn’t get seriously maimed before the NBA wakes up. 5 games is nothing, I don’t care that he loses 1/16th of his salary. It’s still not enough.

Nowhere near enough
They just extended Bynum’s summer vacation by two weeks.
Financial fines mean next to nothing to these guys. It all sounds like a lot of money to poor shlumps like us but I still think that Bynum will be able to enjoy his outdoor hot tub and personal swedish massage girl during his suspension.
Make the suspension apply to five PLAYOFF games and it might be worth something. This would cause the proper ripple effect for the coaching staff and front office to stop this sort of behavior in the future.
we can still win........

I was calling for 8
but figured he’d get 5. Knowing the league, this is about right.
I guess he'll have to kill someone before the NBA actually does something significant.
#52--------I believe in Greg Oden
I bet a career-ending injury would do the trick.
Got a preference? Nobody gets my dander up like Garnett, but I don’t know if I could wish that kinda harm on anybody.
Stealth > Wealth
Now, now Garnett will be gone soon enough thankfully. Although I would like to see him get punked on his way out.
As for bynumskull, I would like to see him end his own career by trying something like that and have it backfire on him.
I wonder what the NBA would do if a player got kicked in the nuts?
I mean, it is a play on the ball(s)…
Stealth > Wealth
This was sort of career ending
for Phil Jackson.
Everyone will always remember his last game.

Just watch, the L*kers first 5 games will be against scrubs to minimize the impact
I say make their first 5 games the Heat, Thunder, Mavs, Bulls and us. Make them have an 0-5 start to the season!
Porter, Drexler, Kersey, Williams, Duckworth. The greatest starting 5 ever.
Considering Bynum's history and that he did this with millions tuned in, I expected double this punishment
I still believe in Greg Oden. The Blazers' medical staff? Not so much.
I'd change my handle to "bringback'09," but I'm too lazy.
For as high a profile....
…ugly mar on the image of The N.B.A. it seems to me to be a punishment that leans toward the lenient side. You get monetary fines that equal or exceed that levied at coaches for simply questioning the refs. You’d think a high profile playoff game, inwhich Bynum reduces the N.B.A. to a what announcers are calling “Bush League” would garner a higher degree of punishment.
"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"
Truly would like to see Bynum get what he gives..
