Is it nap time for Barret and RIce?
Just a little pet peeve of mind this season. Barret, Rice, even Wheel and Antonio...and the commentary about team or individual players fatigue. Let me take a swig of my RedBull and continue...
Listen, I know the N.B.A. season is long. Probably too long. I know these guys do get tired. I realize that in a course of a season a team is going to get affected by fatigue and tired legs...I accept this as reality. But this season? It seems to me that excuse has been brought up way too often.
I'm watching the Laker game last night. And once again as the second half starts, Mike Barret starts seeding the clouds with worried statements about how the Blazers got in late the night before, and wondering how much more The Blazers had left in the tank on the back of a back to back....
My opinion? Just shut up about it. I'm not saying these guys don't get tired, I'm not saying they don't deserve the realities of physicallity and fatigue we all have, but I am saying they are professional athletes that in general are facing a similar season in it's entirety, as all their counterparts.
This season, it just seems every time The Blazers have had back to backs, or a road trip, I've heard from Blazer announcers across the board about how the wheels (no pun intended) were likely to fall off, as this team was a hairs breath away from needing a collective nap. ENOUGH! enough talk about fatigue.
I'm wondering if it isn't the announcers themselves that aren't getting tired? Maybe those guys need a break? But in anycase, 2 games left in the season, and heading into the playoffs, and hopefully next season, every time the Blazers play a back to back or go on an extended road trip, I don't want to hear about how TIRED they are..or might become....
Thank you for humoring me with my rant.

I disagree somewhat
I do think the Mikes kind of overblow it sometimes, but I do think its a legitimate concern. When you are talking about world class athletes on both sides, sometimes it really is the small things that can make the difference between a win and a loss, especially at the end of a season. Things like throwing off your normal sleeping schedule really can throw off your body’s natural recovery process, especially when dealing with nagging injuries. They say football is a game of inches(i think it applies to basketball as well) and this could just be one of those inches. Just my 2 cents

Not saying...
..fatigue can’t be a legitimate factor in a game OR isn’t part of a season. I am saying I’m hearing about it this season WAY too much….IMO, you suck it up, you play. I’m TIRED of it being raised as an excuse every time The Blazers play a game with less than 2 days off inbetween.
"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"
probably because the blazers have had a lot more back to backs this season than years past?
not 100% certain though

And ....LMA has plyed the 2nd most minutes in the entire league
I noticed the Mikes saying that…. and what do you know….. it did coincide with a slow spot in the game when they began to struggle. I would say it pretty spot on
Me: "I heard the BCS just bought March Madness.......the vote should be out tomorrow and we will see Duke and Kansas in the championship game"
One last comment....
…I know Aldridge has played a lot of minutes. But I can’t remember a player or team where the reality of “potential” fatigue was brought up as an excuse more often or as easily as this seasons Blazers.
Even last night…the Blazers had a nice lead, going into the 2nd half..had been playing with plenty of energy and focus…but for some reason Barret feels compelled to suggest that the Blazer “might” fall flat?
I’m tired of hearing it. Suck it up…Play hard while the game is on….Rest Hard on the Private Plane or the Hotel…but let’s shut up about “talking” about fatigue….

I don't think it's an excuse
it’s commentating.
They bring up the various aspects of the game; fatique, back to backs, free throws, percentages and so on.
Anything else you’d specifically not like them to comment on…potential threats in the back court, etc?

you should consider turning the volume down and putting some music on instead
Even though you might be tired of hearing it...
It doesn’t make it any less true. I get tired of my girlfriend saying I never help around the house…doesn’t make it any less true HA!
Anyways this team has seemingly blown a lot of leads this year and we basically choked away 2 games to the team we were playing last night so I think their analysis was warranted.
Two or three hours spent on something obvious over the weekend will greatly increase the longevity of your relationship. For example repairing that one nagging thing, or sorting that box that has been in the attic for months, etc. Don’t laugh it off, sometimes such things can build up and cause real disruption.

Eh, it's much worse when..
..Barret says about 5 times in 5 minutes that we need to keep building a cushion when we are up 24.
as far as barret, well he annoys me too but as far as the cusion? they cam back to 7 points and if we wouldn’t of hit that shot and they came back again it would of been a 5 point game..Koba has proven time and time again he can bring his team back 20 points he did it to us several yrs ago in the forth remember? barret was just stressing it to the point where we wanted to say shut up about it…but he was right
No
I don’t always like or agree with the Mikes, and sometimes find their unabashed homerness to be embarrassing, but 98% of the time they are right on and if they are speaking about fatigue it’s probably because it is a legitimate issue. Yes, everyone needs to go out and play through it and not make excuses, but fatigue is going to majorly affect the way the season rounds out regardless of whether you want to hear it or not.
"Sasha? That's a sissy name." -Mike Rice
I also get tired
of hearing all of the negative ways to look at the game repeated over and over. Especially when the game heads south it almost seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
However, I don’t want them to completely shut up about these sorts of details. If I only listened to the national broadcasters I wouldn’t know any of the Blazer specific statistics that they tend to spew out: # of back to backs, record on 2nd of back to back, etc.
Of course if I only listened to the national broadcasters I wouldn’t know anything about the Blazers except for the negative stuff and details on some player on some other team that has a similar name.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
There is only one thing I want less of:
The phrase “all of a sudden”. As in, “All of a sudden, the Lakers are only down 12”. Please, Mike Barrett, purge this one from your repertoire.
P.S. “suddenly”, and “just like that…” are just as grating.

I wish they were robots.
My enjoyment would be greatly increased if they never offered opinions, insight, personal anecdotes, they’re own fears and joys at team play.
The world be much better if Barret mentioned the score and the person who last achieved a quantifiable stat.
Rice would be allowed to comment on certain aspects of those facts, like how a jump shot is a shot that involves shooting the ball from such a distance removed from the rim that it would be impossible to touch the rim, no matter how long the arms of the attempting player happened to be. Remarks such as these would add “color” to the broadcast.
If they could both type their comments into a voice simulator in order to make them as monotone as possible, I would be ecstatic.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
I agree with you 100%
I get tired of Barrett making excuses about how tired the Blazers are. He just needs to shut his mouth and call the game.
You know, volume is optional...
You could try listening to the radio broadcast, or perhaps the Toccata & Fugue in D Minor, if you don’t like Barrett. Try listening to the Utah Jazz guys if you want to be more grateful for the articulate, impassioned Mike & Mike.
Everyone who complained about Haarlow – are you happier now with Porter? Haarlow was great to watch with the sound off, BTW!

What?
Why in the hell were people complaining about Haarlow?!?!?! People are crazy. I thought she was pretty good, and indeed great to look at… I love Porter but he is pretty bad at sideline reporting, PLUS he’s not so great to look at. ha ha. But he definitely needs a speech coach or something.
But I do get really annoyed with Barrett when he repeatedly says the same things over and over (like fatigue). Or when he overdoes it by making a big deal out of runs, which happens several times EVERY GAME! Runs are just a part of the game! I also hate it when he interrupts Rice just to tell us someone made a shot or a pass, like we didn’t just see it. TV doesn’t need to be play by play! We can see it! Plus I hate it when he tries to predict a call all the time, and he is wrong like 65% of the time, and I know he’s wrong because I just saw it! If you don’t know it don’t guess! Just wait a second. But overall, they are real fans too, so I can put up with it.
What I really can’t stand is Brian Wheeler. He’s good until we start losing, then he gets so depressed and down you can hear it and then I lose all hope that we will ever win a game again because he gets me down too! Also I really cant stand it when he says “he puts a shot up for the game (or) win….” and there’s over a minute left in the game. Obviously that’s not for the win. It very well may be a dagger, but not for the win. Those are left up to the kind of shots that Batum did against the Spurs from Dre. That was for the game. But he’s ok when we’re winning and he’s commenting about the refs.
But seriously, Rebecca was fine to look at and I thought she was a pro. I don’t understand what more people wanted.
"Articulate" may not...
….quite be accurate for Rice – but he is impassioned (and funny!)

What do you mean?
There is no one more articulate or eloquent when it comes to pronouncing names of players than Rice!
Rice is great at pronouncing players' names...
They’re just not often the players who are on the court.
“Lamar Oden” vs/ “Greg Odom” is a good example.
“Emeka Oka-fort”
but he can remember nuances of college games, officials, standings from obscure college conferences, etc…..
"whoever scores the most points is probably gonna win the game"
Hmmmm...
While I tire of Barrett at times, one thing I found interesting is that they were talking about the late flight, and a back to back, then mentioning how this WILL NOT be a factor in the playoffs. Now I’m fairly certain that every single one of the BE faithful are aware of this, I’m fairly certain that there are casual fans out there that aren’t aware of how drastically the schedule changes in the playoffs.
I don’t think the bulk of Barrett’s job is to appease to the die-hard fans. I think he is there to provide insight that enlightens the casual fan.
