ESPN.com's Chris Palmer writes that the Portland Trail Blazers have the third worst bench in the NBA Playoffs, surpassing only the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic.
--------------------------
Bench stats through three games: 16.0 points, 5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.5 turnovers
What's going wrong: For starters, the Blazers' bench has the fewest rebounds and third-fewest points in the postseason. That's because they're essentially operating with two-and-a-half players. Brandon Roy is clearly not himself as he continues to struggle with injuries, and he scored just two points in 34 total minutes in the series' first two games. To his credit, Roy responded admirably in Game 3 (after complaining about a lack of playing time following Game 2) by putting up 16 points in an emotionally charged Rose Garden, helping to spark a 97-92 victory in a game Portland had to have.
On the other hand, Rudy Fernandez is the front-runner for most disappointing sub of the postseason. The third-year guard simply can't find any offensive consistency, making just two field goals in three games. His lone shot in Game 2 was an air ball. He seems to lack any confidence at all, and if Roy gets it going then Fernandez could have his minutes drop significantly.
