GW vs Kidd: Answer to our P&R woes?

Aside from tonight we haven't adequately covered the P&R. We switch way too often. But tonight, I saw something interesting in the 4th q: J-Kidd was manned by Gerald Wallace with LMA on Dirk! GW fought the picks HARD but when they eventually had to switch, Dirk found GW sufficiently strong enough a defender. The only problem I had with the lineup was there was no PG on the floor; GW brought up the ball a few times and it led to a turnover and several nailbiting posessions. Is there a feasible way to put in Dre and have him guard Jason Terry/JJ and find another defender for Marion (maybe Batum or even Roy)? In fact, now that I write that, I think Marion might be the easiest cover for Roy!

The beauty (on the defensive side at least)

Was that Batum guarded Jet, so that pick and roll also left a good defender on Dirk. Not a good all game type of scheme, but I liked it in crunch time.

ya, i overlooked that. that's why there was no ball handler in the game then

Having Batum, Crash, LMA, Camby and whoever else you want at the 1

in the game will work.

Roy can defend any of these spot-up shooters just fine. If they blow past him we have enough length to cover. Even Kidd is not killing this team with dribble penetration. Brandon’s almost 6’7".

Good post...

I definitely think Wallace is a good option on good because he’s quick enough to stay with Kidd and is much better fighting through screens than both Wesley and Nicolas.

But the part about Marion being the easiest cover for Roy…I disagree. Marion makes a living on weak side cuts on PNR plays. Roy’s man to man defense isn’t terrible, but off the ball, it is.

yeah, i guess I just meant in terms of strength/speed. Roy's eyes wander but if he makes a concerted effort, he can stay w marion imho. JJ or Terry would blow by him..

dirks and jkidd are obv out, and he’s def not guarding chandler. Aside from stojakovich, I think Marion is the best place to hide Roy’s defensive deficiency
