A few short months ago, Brandon Roy was the face of the Blazers and a necessary part of the team. He didn't ask to have the knees he has and he certainly didn't ask to suffer pain and not be able to contribute to his team by doing what he loves to do. He has done everything he can to get back physically to help his team, but now his coach needs to let him play. Once he came back, even with limited minutes, he should have been allowed to have his starting role back. He is a starter, with a starter mentality. He is a player who needs to be involved in the game from tip-off. He does not have a bench player mentality where he can warm up, then sit and sit until called upon, then be expected to just jump right in and be amazing. How can anyone expect this incredible player to have confidence when no one around him seems to? I believe he feels good physically, but mentally each time he's expected to perform like a circus act in a positon (point guard) that's not his, it wears on him. He is a classy guy who doesn't deserve to be treated the way he has been, either by fans or his coach. Game 2 case in point-Nate said he left the starters, who were obviously worn out, in so long because they were doing so well, but the second half was a nightmare, and the starters were responsible. He didn't give Brandon or Rudy a real chance to even get into the game, let alone contribute. I believe Roy should start, and playing his natural position, so he has a real chance to get his confidence back. If coach won't allow him that, then he realistically can't expect him to contribute much. Don't forget, Roy is a young guy with a love for this game who says he feels good physically. Perhaps what's holding him back now is being told he's done for, that he stinks, that he should get off the court. Who wouldn't feel less than confident when people who are supposed to be your supporters turn their backs on you?
