Zach Randolph: 4 more years, $71 million
Shortly after the Grizzlies' game 1 upset of the San Antonio Spurs, Zach Randolph agreed to an extension to stay in Memphis long-term.
Looks like microfracture surgery isn't the end of a player's career at all!

wow, it sure paid to get his act together.
Yeah, they don’t seem too worried about that MF knee… maybe better than new?
Hope the money is not detrimental.
Jordan's not a bad guy.. he gave us Gerald Wallace.
I don't think he was ever extremely athletic to the point where his knees would be too demanding.
But then again, I hope it translates for bigmen.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
Bad move
They should have paid him after the series. ZeBo is about to go into a four-year shutdown.
He’s talented, but has never worked to become better (think R. Wallace).
Wow
He reportedly wanted roughly the same amount as Pau Gasol got (3 years, $57 million). He got a longer deal for more money and nearly the same per year as Gasol. Count me surprised that MEM gave him so much. What’s Marc Gasol going to ask for?
In the long run, I expect this to come back and bite Memphis.
"They say it has no memory. That’s where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."
A reasonable expectation,
but it is like “what you gonna do ?” if that is the “open market” value for a guy playing very well, putting up numbers, and, now, finally, winning. With, say, NJ out there with “daddy big bucks” looking for talent with “cost is no object” mindset, how you gonna keep good talent. Great for players, kinda tough on a team like Memphis, I would think. CBA has their work cut out for them.
I suppose you can be a “development team” searching out young talent with the understanding that the best will be going elsewhere, but that is not going to be a fun ride for the fans.
I haven’t been following Zach closely, but I would hope that such an offer means he really has got his act together in terms of discipline and professionalism. Those ‘unconditional’ contracts do seem way out though. I really think there should be heavy perfomance incentives built in, including injury provisions. I mean half salary for games missed would hardly be abusive of the player at that level.

In the short run I expect it to come back and bite memphis.
In other news:
Memphis action news 5 reports that local dancer Destinee is expecting a 300,000 dollar raise this summer.
dinasour type of guys choir boys
Might've been wise to wait for new CBA.
But with the way he’s been playing I’d say he is worth it right now. If I’m Memphis I’d be less concerned with contract year phenomenon and more concerned with fact that he’s 29, and by the end of this contract probably won’t be worth it.
Anyone else watch the Memphis game, though? Zbo gave the interview after the game, and I was very impressed with his glowing praise of teammates, and particularly Gasol. Not a hint of the me-first attitude that disendeared him to Portland fans. Very impressed.

I've seen games where ZBO just looked unguardable
He might not have the big highs but he has higher lows. He is much more consistent. On defense he is playing more to the level of competition which he did tend to do in Portland. He had two blocks against the Spurs.
