I know most people are going to focus on how differently the refs called the 4th quarter and the HUGE free throw differential and I don't disagree, there certainly were at least 2-3 whistles that were blown that were ridiculous. But I still think we could have pulled this one out. I just think Nate blew his rotation. And for the record I'm not a Nate hater. I think he should have been mentioned for COY. That said, why in the world did Roy play 27 minutes? And at the expense of either Camby or Matthews in the final 5 minutes of the game. Obviously either are HUGE upgrades on defense and Matthews is our best 3 PT shooter (by far) to boot. The worst of it was to see Nate play Roy alongside Dre going into the finish, giving us a backcourt with no on-the-ball defense, and playing the only two players who don't complement each other. That and letting Roy take the technical free throw near the end (yes he has a good FT% but Dre has the same FT% but took considerably more than twice as many free throws....)
I feel bad for Roy I do. But it isn't like he is having a bad game every other outing, or 2 out of 3. It is more like 4 out of 5 or 9 out of 10. I really thought his minutes would shrink in the playoffs as we tightened our rotations. Instead we played him over far better players for way too many minutes. This isn't the time to placate our fallen franchise player. We need to go for the kill with the best talent on the court at the end of the game. This one is on Nate.
