What a crazy season?! As usual, the season started with high hopes for many of us Blazer fans. Oden was healthy. Brandon was supposedly somewhat healthy. Things were falling into place to make a good solid run into the playoffs.
Suddenly Oden is out before the season starts and Roy starts showing serious signs of injury a few games in. We win the first 3 games but Roy gets progressively worse. Our first game against the Lakers at the Staples center, Roy is playing like he's at 40% health. We get completely dismantled and then Ron Artest tells the media what most of us really didn't want to hear someone say. Roy looks injured.
Once again the #1 and #2 options go through the whole surgery thing. The guy who was originally supposed to be option #3 steps up his game in ways that can only be described as MVP-like...carrying us through a time when Dante Cunningham had to start at center or PF many nights. Nothing was left of our bench but Rudy Fernandez. Big games were won with 6 guys playing 40+ minutes apiece and swapping positions in innumerable ways.
At about midway through the season we were struggling just to stay at or above .500. In a crazy act of awesomeness we lose Dante and Joel to the Bobcats for Gerald Wallace and slowly fight our way back into playoff contention.
Crazy season indeed. We weren't expected to make it this far. Whoever we face in the first round is ok by me at this point. Whatever happens, happens. I'll be happy just seeing this team continue to fight. Making the second round would definitely be welcome but losing to a superior team will take nothing away from the effort these guys have put out this season.
If we do end up getting knocked out in the first round I hope, as fans, we have enough class to give our guys due props for fighting through another near impossible season.
