Backup PG ideas/critiques welcome
Can someone pls explain why we didn't pick up Antonio Daniels from the D-League before Philly got him? AD made a career out of being an ultra-reliable, no TO point guard (plus he knows the San Antonio system inside out). Watched him help the sonics to a fantastic playoff run in 05 and a close series against the spurs in the second round. He would've been IDEAL paired with Miller as a savvy, veteran PG platoon. I'm all for giving the young guys opportunities (and for getting roy extra mins), I just don't happen to think we can do much in the playoffs with patty/armon the only pure pg options after miller.
Anyway, curious to hear folks' views/ideas on the backup PG dilemma heading into the playoffs.

umm
went to six games, and had Ray’s last sec 3 been two inches to his left, would’ve gone 7. Seattle was giving SA everything they could handle in that series

That's funny cuz I remember Seattle getting blown out in just about loss except the one you mentioned
Both the Houston series two years ago and the Phoenix series last year went six games and I wouldn’t consider either of those to be close.
We're not going far in the playoffs anyway
I’d love for the team to pull off yet another surprise (the fact they make it this far with all the injury problems is amazing enough) but unless B Roy steps up and mirrors his old self and Chris Johnson can come alive when Camby needs to sit the 2nd round is going to be a stretch, though Dallas is an infamous bunch of underacheivers, if we get them. As far as next year goes we haven’t even seen anything out of Elliot Williams. He might (hopefully) spell better PG relief for Miller than Mills or Johnson.

I thought this was a fine idea when AK1984 suggested it, last week
my best guess is that the Blazer’s front office wanted (and still wants to) take a hard look at what Roy can give them as a reserve 1-2 (post surgery) and acquiring a veteran backup PG like Daniels would have hypothetically interfered with that late-season project
A decision will have to be made re: Brandon’s contract following the lockout (assuming the new CBA provides an amnesty out clause, as has been rumored) and now is the time to draw conclusions on how well Roy can play going forward, on those knees
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
I know the idea is to play roy as more of a backup pg, but seems it would’ve been feasible to both sign a vet PG (like Daniels) AND keep roy happy by playing him more at backup SG. Bottom line— the minutes needn’t have changed too much, except for giving rudy/mills/armon minutes to Daniels.

It's been pretty obvious lately that roy does much better playing off the ball
No one in the world can beat me at RBI baseball 3(nes).
And another thing...
Isn’t adding someone this late in the season somewhat of a gamble for chemistry/learning the offense? I like the idea of adding Daniels, but not this late in the game when the stakes are so high.
I have Comcast. I know that makes you hate me. I'm sorry. If it's any consolation, my neighborhood may get Comcast but we've got someone who plays the tuba. A lot.
Antonio was available a few months back
this idea about adding a veteran backup PG has been late in coming for a lot of Bedgers, I was banging the drum last summer
Earl Watson, etc

Meh
I don’t know about that. But, I will say, at 33, your tagline means more and more to me with each passing month.

Marcus Williams?
I don’t know why I’m so interested. Maybe, just because the potential to be great is/was there. Idk.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
According to Wikipedia, Marcus Williams is currently in Russia playing for BC Enisey Krasnoyarsk.

Nate is juggling enough pins right now
after the AS break Portland had Pryz and Dante out of the rotation and Wallace, Roy, and Camby coming back in to the rotation. Thats plenty enough for the coaching staff to figure out without throwing another rotation piece in there.
Red means run, son, numbers add up to nothin
completely understand this view
i guess i just view patty to be totally expendable, and really view him to be undependable, particularly in a playoff atmosphere. AD has enough experience and smarts that i’m sure he could’ve immediately come in and provided better results than the aussie, with a minimum of rotation worry. Getting GW was a big statement that doing well this year (as well as in future) matters, so i wish cho/nate would’ve gone that little extra distance to fill the most glaring need on the team, and transform it into a true contender

Daniels cant shoot, dribble, or play professional basketball
He can defend though, and that may be enough of a reason to have given him a look.
Antonio Daniels can sure as heck dribble, as his high assist-to-turnover ratio is one of his best traits.
I concede that he’s a streaky shooter, although the guy does have 3PT range and draws fouls at a high rate.

Check your stats
He is a great passer, solid handle (one of the best Ast/to rates in league), and has really improved his 3 pt shooting (39% in dleague this yr). One area where his age might be taking its toll is his defense (which, as noted above) has historically been great

A steady vet back up point guard would be amazing.
Remember what anthony johnson did for orlando a couple years back? A guy that gets us into our offense and can hit an occasional open shots. Our back up’s now are homerun hitters, mostly a giant whiff but occasionally can knock it out of the park. The problem is the whiffs can take us out of a ball game quick
No one in the world can beat me at RBI baseball 3(nes).
meh, no need to incorporate any one else new into the rotation
plus, AK1984 mentioned this in a post less than a week or two ago

we really don't have a chance to win it this year,
so, the best move is to play Roy and Rudy and see what happens. Assuming a long labor battle and a late start for next season, use these playoffs to decide whether or not Roy is back. My guess is the cap will be tighter somehow and Roy will be considered for a buy out. Probably for full value, but if the owners get lucky maybe some discount as the NHL got. But if Roy can give a sustained effort in each game and be at least a 2nd unit force, then live with it and bring him back. Truthfully, Patty would really need to improve, I think, for Nate to go with him again, he really wants Johnson to win the back up job ongoing. Will be tough for all these guys at the end of the bench to improve w/o team activities during the summer. Guess everyone better go to Jordan’s guy in Chicago.
Maybe Daniels did not want to come back here.
As a member of the in-fighting Jail Blazers he may not have any fond memories.
Who's that tromping across my bedge?
