The San Antonio Spurs have had an incredible year, but they are looking like anything but the best team in the NBA right now. They are a veteran group and a 6-game losing streak down the all-important stretch is indication enough to me that the 82-game season is wearing on them to some degree.
I propose that our best chance of a first round upset may be against a Spurs team that, while still likely to finish as one of the top two seeds in the West, are undoubtedly on the wrong end of a critical momentum shift right now.
That said, I don't think we should TRY to position ourselves for a matchup with San Antonio. If on the last day of the season a loss means a 7 or 8 seed and a meeting with the Spurs, and a win gets us either the Lakers or Mavs, I would still like to see a win. As the cliche goes, if you mess with the game the game will mess with you.
All things considered, should we hope for a series with the Spurs?
