Blazers Post Modest Gains In NBA Power Rankings

The Blazers went 2-1 to kick off March last week, beating the Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Bobcats and dropping an ugly one to the Houston Rockets. That translated into some modest improvements in the various NBA Power Rankings and playoff projection models. Marc Stein: Blazers improve from No. 12 to No. 11 John Schuhmann: Blazers drop from No. 10 to No. 12 John Hollinger: Blazers improve from No. 17 to No. 16 David Aldridge: Blazers improve from No. 9 to No. 8 Jeff Sagarin: Blazers improve from No. 13 to No. 12 According to Hollinger's team stats: Portland remains at 14th in offensive efficiency, remains at 15th in defensive efficiency, dropped from 17th to 19th in rebound rate and dropped to the second slowest team in the NBA when it comes to pace (they had been third slowest). Over at Basketball-Reference.com, their playoff forecast has the Blazers in the Western Conference's No. 8 seed, now with a 69.4% chance of making the playoffs (up from 67.7% last week). The Phoenix Suns (29.5%) and Houston Rockets (20.9%) are Portland's competition for the No. 8 seed. Hollinger's Playoff Odds have the Blazers in the No. 8 spot, with a 62.7% chance to make the playoffs (up from 58.1% two weeks ago). The Suns (41.7%) and the Houston Rockets (31.4%) are the top two on the outside looking in. -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
