They are by far the weakest part of our rotation. Sure Rudy has now come to grips with his role & playing in Portland. For someone who is supposedly "comfortable" his shot sure doesn't show it. He has consistently declined since his rookie year. Yes he provides some excitement with running pick & roll's but it is not worth how inefficient he is. This year he has the second worst shooting percentage of any shooting guard in the NBA who plays 20+ minutes. I mean come on, to quote a generic cheerleading chant... U.G.L.Y. Rudy. You have no alibi. Its ugly.
Patty. I love his towel waving. I love how he has brought Rudy out of his emotional funk. I love how he consistently "ups the tempo" when he comes in off the bench. However he still has some glaring weaknesses. He will never be able to defend anything more then the waterbug point guards of the NBA. He did a solid job against CP3 in the olympics, and when he faces someone his size he shows a valiant effort. However for fit with this team, I just don't see Mr. Mills working out long term.
Yes Rudy has found a new BFF in Patty. However both of their games go against everything this Blazers teams identity is. Flashy offense & terrible defense. Acquiring Gerald Wallace was a phenomenal coup in which Paul Allen/Rich Cho showed what this team is going to be about in terms of a defense oriented ball club(In addition to extending Nate/Adding Camby/Wesley). My stance on changing the roster has been the same, if you can't improve then don't make a move just for the sake of making a move. However with Rudy/Patty taking up 36mpg(rough estimation from looking at ESPN), it seems like a waste of our minutes in the rotation. Particularly with Brandon Roy, another guard taking up around 25mpg night to night & he himself is, lets be honest a below average defender(Doesn't exactly bring energy off the bench either). We certainly could upgrade this offseason in my opinion. Whether it be through free agency, the draft or even a trade. Let me know what you think! Who would be ideal in your mind to replace Rudy &/or Patty's minutes?
Just a few names & numbers.
Reggie Williams. 20mpg. 47% from the field, 42% from 3.(My favorite choice)
Daniel "Boobie" Gibson. 28mpg. 40% from the field, 42% from 3.
Gary Neal. 20mpg. 44% from the field. 40% from 3.
Martell Webster. 23mpg. 42% from the field, 37% from 3.(just for laughs)
