Rudy Gay Out For Rest Of Season
Rudy Gay is out for the rest of the season apparently. Tough break for the Grizz but their still a formidable team and they still have some pretty solid wins without him.
Rudy apparently needs shoulder surgery now. I hope the surgery goes well and he gets healthy again.

Man this is awful
I liked the Grizz’s upset potential.
I'm gonna be the only A-hole that owns a Nic Batum jersey that doesn't live in France. Awesome.
Yeah agreed
Would have been fun to possibly meet them in the second round if both teams managed the upset. Still possible but a little more difficult with this news.
Might not be the worst timing...
With Zach starting to negotiate a contract extension, he’s liable to revert to Stat-Bo big time. With Rudy Gay out, you don’t mind Zach looking for his own all the time. Let’s be honest, they weren’t going to go anywhere in the post season this year. But a huge issue formed by Zach taking all the shots and Rudy Gay feeling shut out could have carried over to next season and caused issues. They can start next season with some confidence that they made the playoffs this year, and with a healthy Rudy Gay may have made a bit of post-season noise at least. Ridding themselves of the losing mentality will pull them out of the cellar a bit. The future looks brighter than it has for many years in Memphis, and Gay’s injury doesn’t diminish that at all IMO.

Your point doesn't work if Houston overtakes them for the 8 spot.
Which to me seems about 50/50 right now.

Houston is two games back, with eleven to play
They do have the tie-breaker, but I don’t see Houston doing better than 6-5 down the stretch. Among Memphis remaining games are the Warriors, T-Wolves, Kings, and Clippers twice. If the Griz just take care of those five, that means Houston would have to go 7-4.
Possible for Houston to overake Memphis at this point. But I wouldn’t call it 50-50. 70-30 best case IMO.

Did anybody else at first glance
read this as Rudy going out with his “orientation”?

Gay hadn't played for over a month, anyway.
He’s been out since suffering the injury on Feb. 15th. Yet, Memphis has adjusted and remained right in the thick of the playoff hunt. My guess is the team already expected to be without him for an extended period of time.
