I’m sure Mike Barrett is a nice person as is Mike Rice but I think it’s time to get some new blood into the Blazers broadcast game.
I feel lucky to have listened to the greats call a game, like Bill Schonely, Steve Jones, Vin Scully, Ralph Lawler and Chick Hearn. When the NBA brought about the League Pass I got a chance to listen to other local NBA broadcasters call a game. It was exciting to see former players and new voices calling games around the league. The best has to be Walt "Clyde" Frazier. I had high hopes for the new team of Mike Barrett and Mike Rice when they came on the scene but was soon disappointed by Barrett’s call of the game. I was reminded of this the last KGW game vs. Dallas. DeSean Stevenson last name is not Richardson as Mike Barrett called him. Thank God Sergio Fernandez and Rudy Rodriguez are not team mates any more so Rudy can get is last name back, Fernandez. The only good thing about the Comcast situation is I get to hear the national broadcast of Blazers games instead of the local one. I wish it were the opposite.
It’s not just the mix up of names but also the call of the game itself. At times I’m wondering if I’m watching the same game as Mike Barrett. He tends to make excuses for players at times. You can tell Mike Barrett is friends with the players on the team that comes across in the call of the game. Its fine if you are a fan of the team and I know he works for the Blazers but I would like to see the game called as it is. I’m going to take a guess and say Mike Barrett is city league basketball player, with NBA dreams but aren’t we all? I would rather hear the NBA player’s version.
The wild one is good; anyone who gets kicked out of a game by the ref’s well, that shows me how much he loves the game he is watching. He has that Harry Caray thing going for him. I’m just saying I think the Blazers could step it up and get a former player to call games so fans can get that side of the game from the Blazers broadcast team. What is Scottie Pippen doing?
It took a long time for the Blazers to get a former player in studio or on the sideline for games. With the League Pass you get to see other former players calling games for local broadcasts. I’m not sure why the Blazers have never reached out to a former player to call games before? They finally have Terry Porter and Michael Holton in studio along with Jerome Kersey but they are not calling games. You can always get a better perceptive from a former player or a beautiful girl on the sideline. We all remember Rebecca Haarlow? She was great even if she tended to close her eyes when speaking into the camera, she grew out of that. Do we miss her? It's time for a shake up in the Blazers broadcast booth.
Whom would you like to see call games on TV for the Blazers?
