Miller tells it like it is
This was a great interview of Andre and his perspective of the team and the playoffs. It's nice to read something outside of BEdge that doesn't concern any of the following: Miami, LAL or the Knicks.

i love dre's conspiracy talk, i cant believe he hasnt been fined yet
“You could say it’s wide open during the season, but once the playoffs hit there’s three or four teams that can go to the Finals. That’s the politics of basketball. Wide open or not during the season, we already know who is going to be there down the stretch.”
said pretty much the same thing last year

i don't hate the heat
Dude knows how it is.
He knew that Griffin was picked ahead of LA because the nba wanted to shoot a week long commercial staring Griffin. That dunk contest was a televised commercial shoot and everyone knew it.
No one in the world can beat me at RBI baseball 3(nes).
That was the weakest Kia commercial I have ever seen.
But then again, what’s a good one?
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

In all seriousness,
Who wants a car that got dunked on? Then again, who wants a Kia?

The black sheep hamster one is dope.
Dres was one of my favorite rappers.
dinasour type of guys choir boys

Yeah, I won’t be watching the dunk contest anymore. The contest has turned into a travesty. First of all, the players can attempt a dozen dunks with a 2:00 window, so even if they connect on attempt #8, the thrill of it is gone because the unsuccessful attempts dampen the spontaneity of the original dunk.
But most of all, the peripheral gimmicktry is down right pathetic. I SMH when JeVale McGee’s mother came down the aisle with that black box, then stepped on the court and waved to the crowd like she was Queen Elizabeth. And the choir and stuffed animal thing was downright bizarre. The icing on the cake however was that shameless Griffin/Prius plug that looked like it had been staged directly from Corporate Office. I felt like I was being pitched to the whole event.
The once-spectacular slam dunk contest has turned into an epic sideshow unfortunately, and IMO, it makes the NBA look bad.
Too much shameless corporate advertising overload and other gimmicktry overshadowing the event
UGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH
Yeah, I didn't mind back when wilkins got paid by his shoe company to do it again.
Probably because he didn’t jump over a giant shoe

Griffin could of put up a lay up and won that contest
No one in the world can beat me at RBI baseball 3(nes).
this
Once he made it to the finals there really wasn’t much he could have done to lose. Fans were going to vote him in.
Especially when you consider that most people who heavily text are 25 and under
How many long time basketball fans do you think grabbed their phones and started texting. I don’t know why the nba decides to have a voting style in a form that is dominated by teenage girls. Probably cause it lets the nba marketing department decide the winner

Great article.
It is good that the contribution of Andre is properly assessed:
“Miller deserves some credit, along with Coach Nate McMillan, for keeping the team focused when they could have fallen completely apart.”
When Roy first came back he noted Aldridge suddenly started to defer to him. After a chat where he told the big man to keep doing what he’s doing, Aldridge came back and the Blazers have been better for it. Miller credits Aldridge’s assertiveness as part of the team’s overall improvement.
I hope that one day, LMA will see Roy on the perimeter and realize that if he HAS to he has a great option on the perimeter to kick out to but only when he NEEDS to.
Being a Blazer fan is not exactly healthy.
It always seems NBA games are artificially kept close to keep fans interested. If one team is ahead, the other starts getting calls.
It just seems manipulated. When they let the players decide the game I’m just a lot more happy win or lose. I can’t stand that Aldridge can get bumped on his shot, and only guys like Gasol or Amare get the call.
I just hate that the NBA always seems to have the a big market doing well.
Portland beats Miami, gets a 30 second highlight reel on ESPN, with all Miami highlights. If Miami wins, they get all of that, and they talk about Lebron for the whole show.
It's a two-edged sword
I just hate that the NBA always seems to have the a big market doing well.
In the late ‘70s the league was wracked with drug scandals and the finals wasn’t even on during prime time
Then came Magic, Bird and…David Stern
The league began marketing individual “superstar” matchups rather than emphasizing team play. ESPN came along in the early ’80s and showed dunk highlights from all the “big” games. The young fans began emulating their heros on the playgrounds and AAU focused in on dribbling and flashy offense at the expense of the fundamentals.
As a result, the league is on better financial footing, but teams like the Spurs who can win the title in a non-major market are rare. I don’t care to watch the all-star weekend, and I only watch parts of playoff games, unless Portland is involved in them. Referee bias is nothing new and it’s sanctioned by the league office. Stern’s goal is to earn advertising revenue and score the biggest TV contracts available. That means teams on the east coast and the L*kers will be preferred in May/June. That’s how it’s been for decades and there’s no reason to expect a change, any time soon.
Does that mean it’s worthless for the Blazers to keep trying to win it all? Not while Paul Allen still has that desire. The franchise needs some breaks and they need to scout and draft well, like San Antonio has done. They also need a good playoff coach, the jury is still out re: McMillian in this area. And they need a GM who is willing to flip assets for the right roster pieces, as we’ve seen at the last 2 trading deadlines. If everything comes together the team could become dominant-enough to blow through whatever barriers and bias that Stern can throw at them and win the trophy, again. It will be indeed be “against all odds” (and much sweeter) because we will know it was done without “extra” help from the zebras along the way
and this is something that no L*ker or Celtic fan (if they are being intellectually honest) can claim.
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
