Dante Cunningham Appreciation Thread

Joel will obviously be getting a lot of love here on BE (as well he should), but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to say a big "thank you" to Dante Cunningham.   Since the moment he joined the team he's shown nothing but class, hustle, hardwork, and possitive attitude.  His production on the floor will certainly be made up for, but we'll all miss him as a member of our team.  Here's to hoping the Blazers continue to priortize players of his character in future drafts as well.  I'm proud to have had him represent my team and my city!

he was such a great defender (for his size/position), he never hesitated to take a shot, and he seemed like a great kid. Plus we have neither of the 2nd round front line of last year any more, which is a bummer.

A great Blazer.

I will definitely miss his hustle and his scary mouthguard.

Mike Rice: "Camby nearly rejected that with his Armpit!"

Mike Barrett: "Now that would be a fragrant foul."

I remember the first time I saw that mouthguard,

I spent twenty minutes trying to figure out if he lost his two front teeth.

Dante Cunningham is THE MAN

Inferno went out there every night and gave everything he could to help out Blazers win. Once a Blazer always a Blazer. You will be missed Dante, I’ll pour some of my 40 on the sidewalk in remembrance of the homies that were lost today…

I wish you luck wherever you are, you define the term “class act”

Love Dante.

All the best of luck to him for his career and personal life. Seemed like a class act from the moment he showed up. I’ll be cheering for him whenever he comes back to play the Blazers!

Dante played hard and left it on the court every night. I would have liked to see him play more (over Juwan) his rookie year, and while he struggled this year, it wasn’t due to lack of effort.

Good luck to him.

He was undersized, but he brought it every night.

Yet another Blazer I will cheer for no matter what uniform he’s wearing.

I've got to admit...

Dante is one of my favorites Blazers (among many) because of heart and hustle. I know he will be a good player for what ever teams he plays for in the future.

Always out there trying

I’m a huge fan of the guys who always seem to be out there trying to do whatever they can’t, whether they’re the best player on the team or the worst. Dante is definitely that kind of guy and I wish him luck with his new team. I’ve got tickets for the next home game against Charlotte and will look forward to being able to give him a big cheer the first time he takes the floor.

by serinpdx on Feb 24, 2011 5:01 PM PST reply actions

Best of luck in Charlotte

His value I think will become evident once he is gone. This is probably the player that was holding up the deal from going through quicker, as I doubt Blazers were quick to give him up. Obviously gotta give up something to get something.

I think Dante is a very solid player that has a long career ahead of him, that jumper will keep him on any roster. His effort will do even more.

Best of luck. Thanks for the time in Ptown.

I was disappointed when we drafted him...

I haven’t been disappointed once since then.

He’s shown a lot of heart and smarts on the court.

Injuries have forced Nate to play him in challenging situations, he’s done much better that I would have hoped.

Best of luck in Charlotte, and where ever you end up signing next year.

Great guy, shame to see him go because he is just the kind of guy you like to see on the Blazers, works hard, improves his game, exceeds expectations, and high character.

I will be rooting for him to do well as a Bobcat.

Is to thank Dante and Joel for their contributions. When Dante was first drafted, I knew he was going to do better then Pendergraph. His hustle and hard work will be missed. You don’t see that in a lot of guys these days.

Going to miss Dante

He’s a consummate professional who always hustles, always gives his best. Solid, solid, solid; a “glue” sort of guy. AND a great interview – very articulate. Best of luck to you, Inferno. You’re going to have a good career.

Reccing this because I think its ridiculous to see the Sean Marks appreciation thread on the front page but DC was not.

I hope Charlotte doesn’t drag you down, Dante. You are a good player and good guy and I’m glad you wore my team’s uniform. Not sure you’ll ever be a star in the NBA, but I think you have the chops and the heart to be a solid rotation player on a winning team for the next decade. Good luck in your future endeavors.
