Where We Stand: Bobcats F Gerald Wallace To The Blazers?

Despite some server issues this morning and Twitter dying this afternoon, the trade rumor drumbeat continues. Here's where we stand. New Jersey Nets point guard Devin Harris was traded to the Utah Jazz for point guard Deron Williams. Vote on this trade here. The hot rumor regarding the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday has centered around Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace. Multiple outlets report that Wallace is heading to Portland but no agreement has yet been finalized. Two reported scenarios: a package centered around guard Andre Miller and a package centered around center Joel Przybilla. The Cleveland Cavaliers have also been reported to have interest in Wallace. As of 1:30 PM, a source close to the situation maintained that there was "nothing to confirm" regarding the completion of a Wallace to Portland deal despite some chatter earlier in the day that the deal was "done." Chris Broussard of ESPN.com reports... ------------------ I'm told Cavs-Bobcats talks about Wallace are dead. Wallace didn't want to be in CLE anyway. POR talks real serious. ------------------ Jason Quick of The Oregonian reports... ------------------ Blazers C Joel Przybilla says he hasn't heard anything about a trade to Charlotte. Says last he heard he is starting tonight against Lakers. Przybilla said he spoke with agent Bill Duffy last night and Duffy "didn't seem too concerned" that he would be moved. Agents of potential players involved in Portland-Charlotte deal (Prz, Camby, Miller) are being left completely out of loop by both sides. ------------------ Update (5:45 PM): Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports now reports... ------------------ Charlotte-Portland talks for Gerald Wallace cooling, sources say. 'Cats pulling back, with one source suggesting MJ's getting cold feet. ------------------ For what it's worth, Blazers center Joel Przybilla is at the Rose Garden and warming up as I type this. Update (6:34 PM): Jason Quick of The Oregonian reports... ------------------ As I reported earlier today, Blazers intend to stand pat at trading deadline. However team will still explore options for backup PG. ------------------ Shortly thereafter, Quick provided some mixed signals, saying that the Wallace talks were still "open." ------------------ Agent Andy Miller says if Fernandez is put in the Charlotte deal he will ask for a buyout and Rudy will go back to Spain. Miller says the deal with Charlotte is still alive, otherwise, "MJ was argumentative for no reason." ------------------ Through all of that, we overlooked a Chad Ford report that the Porltland Trail Blazers have talked to the Minnesota Timberwolves about point guard Jonny Flynn. Dragon134 has it covered in the FanShots. David Aldridge of NBA.com reports... ------------------ Several league sources say that Portland has changed its mind about trading most of, if not all, of its veteran big men for youth before the deadline. ... Portland is looking for a backup point guard and a scoring big man to play in the rotation behind Aldridge–and perhaps alongside Aldridge when he plays center. That would likely explain Portland’s interest in Charlotte forward Gerald Wallace, as reported by multiple outlets Wednesday. But getting Wallace, who makes $9.5 million this season in Charlotte, would have to include at least one of Portland’s veterans to make the deal work–though the Blazers do have Oden’s $6.7 million salary as a potential chip to use. ------------------ This post will update with additional news this afternoon and into the evening.
