Giving up GO in a deal like that is WAY too much for Harris.
The Blazers likely lose Murphy after the season and they trade Oden? That would’ve have been stupid. THe blazers need to keep centers and not get rid of them..
Oden’s don’t come around often enough to justify trading them for a decent PG that will replace a decent PG.
He is a huge risk, but he is the Blazer’s only current shot at a championship. Harris is a sideways move, MAYBE a slight upgrade at best, but certainly not enough upside to give away Oden. My trade value for Oden is somewhere around: Oden+MIller+1st round pick for D-Will
Harris wont equate at all for me, no matter how many 1st round picks are thrown in.
Oden's risk is only as large as how much you pay him.
Give him a small contract, there is very little risk.
"Ain't nothin' in this world for free."
Why should he take a small contract? He'll take the QO, and see what offers he gets in 2012.
If he doesn’t like it here anymore he’ll just walk out the door.
Because
injury is as much a risk for him as it is for us. If he turned down a moderately-priced deal ( $5-$6 million per year or so for 3 years) he’d be walking away from a lot of guaranteed income. If you’re advising him, you have to consider the possibility that this could be the last above-minimum offer he ever gets. How many teams would want to make a significant investment in him if he gets hurt again next year?
If he takes the short-term deal and turns into a 70+ games a year beast, he can still sign his huge contract at age 26. So it makes sense for him to focus on security right now.
If we don't offer him at least the Minimum QO, which is ~10M/year, we lose our rights to him as a Restricted Free Agent
That’s why.
Now all we need is the rest of the roster to get into "how can everybody help Nicco and Oden" mode. -- Oden Mad, Oden Smash! Sep 29, 2010 7:47 PM
So offering the QO gets us 1 more year of Oden at ~10M/year, then he becomes a RFA anyway.
Plus he’ll likely not be ready to go until sometime midway into the season. I’m fine to sign him to a reasonale long term deal, but I’m not in favor of paying him $10M for half a season only to see him bolt a year later.
Oden hasnt done jack for us. hes injured. D Harris is a top 7 PG in his prime. Of course Id have included Oden in the trade

Oden hasn't done jack and is 22y.o.
I’m pretty sure Oden will do something in the next 10 years. His cost is his salary and roster spot. Tha is very low risk high reward cost for the Blazers considering the return on his replacement. The Blazers just need Oden to return before Camby hangs up his laces.
No way I would have considered including Oden unless Brook Lopez was included with Harris.
high reward, HIGH cost to keep GO

+1
Lopez becomes a perennial All Star if Williams re-ups with NJ.

Maybe he WAS at one time...
But he left his prime in Dallas.
After his first season in NJ he’s been far, far from a top 7 PG.
Right now he’s not a top 15 PG and is far less reliable and savvy then Andre and he also only has 2 years left on his contract.
If Oden is the reason the trade didn’t go through then thank goodness it didn’t!.. I am not a Harris fan and we have too much into Greg to let him go for this weak of a deal now!
I think Deron Williams became the sticking point in that trade

Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit!
