Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Trade drawer: Please put your non-front page trade talk in here.

Just to state my position, I'm all for holding pat unless something excellent comes along. I don't have anything specific in mind, but I know who I don't want to trade and it starts with our most consistent and healthy players, and right now that's four guys: Dre, DC, The Wiz (Matthews) and the Star of the Show, Mr. LaMarcus Aldridge. That group right there is averaging around 84 games per season (blind guess). Unless you were being offered an equal caliber player with similar history in return, I wouldn't give it three seconds thought.

2. My second tier is the guys who've been dinged a couple times but are active and were productive as of the last game played. That includes, in order of current production: Nic Batum, Rudy Fernandez, Joel Przybilla. I would prefer to not trade any of them but would consider fair offers if one or two of those guys were demanded.

3. My third tier is Marcus Camby. I want to see him back on the boards before I make a decision. And Brandon Roy because nobody's gonna offer us more than a sucker's deal for him right now and I'm hoping that changes or we can dump him after the bargaining agreement.

4. Next tier is anyone on the squad who isn't seeing minutes right now. Filler material.

5. Lastly is Greg Oden. I don't know what he could bring at this point, but I'd keep my ear open if I were Cho.

P.S. Can I call him "General Cho" without offending anyone?

Three team deal between POR, NJ and HOU

Works under trade rules

Harris (and the 1st round pick from NOH) to HOU
Brooks and Murphy to POR
Miller, Battier and Przybilla to NJ

by Storyteller on Feb 22, 2011 4:51 PM PST reply actions   1 recs

But how does this address the PG question long-term?

Brooks as a starter? Not so sure about that.

by Badalona Baddie on Feb 22, 2011 5:17 PM PST up reply actions

I feel much better about Brooks as starting PG than Harris

Harris, according to those I know in NJ, is ‘Marbury lite’ – more concerned with his stats than with wins. Plus he’s inconsistent and injury prone. Brooks is a much better alternative, IMO.

Here's my POR, NJ, HOU trade

It works. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4s22f4d

Harris and Brooks to POR
Miller and Yao to NJ
Przybilla, Murphy and A. Johnson to HOU

Portland gets an almost completely new point-guard rotation.
New Jersey and Houston get major cap relief. Houston also gets a PG prospect to replace Brooks.

The only Vulcan with common sense is Spock.

by Badalona Baddie on Feb 22, 2011 5:01 PM PST reply actions

I don't see them attempting to trade Yao's expiring deal for an active player or players.

So it would follow that they intend to let the contract expire. If they got Pryz and Murphy they’d gain an additional $2mil worth of expiring contracts.

The only Vulcan with common sense is Spock.

by Badalona Baddie on Feb 22, 2011 5:16 PM PST up reply actions

I disagree

I absolutely think they’re trying to get a big contract back for Yao – for example, trying to get Nene or Gerald Wallace. That’s Morey’s style and that’s the nature of the current rumors.

Trade with Denver?

I’m not keen on trading Dre, but on the assumption that we are dealing him, and Denver is going into rebuilding mode:

POR gets

Ray Felton

DEN gets

Andre Miler
Rudy OR Dante OR Armon OR Babbitt
(possibly a second round pick if that swings the deal)

3 team deal between NJ Philly and PDX

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6gko5l8
Portland sends a 1st round pick to NJ and one to Philly plus $1 million to Philly so they can buy out Marks and have a nice dinner with the rest, and $2 million to NJ to help buy out Pryz.

Sorry, posted this in another thread. I try to keep 'em in the trade drawer.

I thought this one was possible.

Horford’s dad went public blasting the Hawks for playing him at Center. His dad said that Al was getting too much wear and tear matching up with larger players every night. If Atlanta went after a Center, Horford would move to PF full-time. That leaves no position for Smith.

Crawford has also blasted the Atlanta front office earlier this year. He is BRoy’s best friend and Jason Quick said today on 95.5 that Cho sees Crawford as a PG. My only concern is his age. (30 years old)

Bibby could move into Crawford’s role. Camby and Miller would like this because this team would give any team fits.

Atlanta signed Johnson with the idea of competing now. They are in position to add aging players to take a shot.

by parkinglotj on Feb 22, 2011 6:51 PM PST reply actions

Portland would use 3 forwards because the L-Train says, “Don’t call me a Center.” A front line of Aldridge, Smith and Batum would be sooooo long.

DUDE

why make a trade that makes you worse? Hollinger says we get 6 games worse.

Hollinger

Doesn’t account how dominant a frontcourt of Smith/Aldridge would be for the next 5-10 years.

on a similar note...

This was one I just put together today, along the same lines as yours

Blazers get Josh Smith, Mike Bibby
Atlanta gets Devin Harris, Joel Pryzbilla
New Jersey gets Andre Miller + picks

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4ugmrkd

Doubt Josh Smith would be this available. I think the Hawks and Nets kind of get what they are looking for, and the Blazers get a great all around player in Smith that would add his beastness to a smaller lineup when Camby is not in. Plus we get a starting PG who can hit the 3, whether it be Bibby or give the keys to Patty. Think of how many back-door oops there could be. Just a thought, what are yours?

by TonyBlaze on Feb 22, 2011 10:39 PM PST up reply actions

I'm assuming that Horford is their franchise player along with Johnson.

Atlanta would love to get rid of SF Marvin Williams’ crazy contract, but Smith has trouble playing the 3. If they get a starting Center then Horford or Smith goes to the bench. I feel Smith is going to be the odd man out sooner or later, and I don’t think he’ll be a happy camper on the bench.

Your trade makes sense, but I have never been a fan of Bibby. If only there we’re a way to get Smith AND Harris…Hmmm..can’t figure a way without gutting our team.

No Way!

Any trade where we lose Miller would be the end to this season!

The Wiz?

C’mon, we all know the Wizard was Walt Williams!

by jigglyai on Feb 22, 2011 8:22 PM PST reply actions

I thought " The Wiz " is what he called his socks? Walt Williams was awesome!

Besides they aren’t winning the title this year anyway so by default they avoid the only other definition of "waste" that matters.

Just one of my pet nicknames.

It comes from so many people calling him “West”, which is not his name and can only be a reference to a famous L*ker or a wicked witch. So I made the leap.

good idea

unfortunately, i don’t think golden state’s interest in murphy goes deep enough to sacrifice curry for a substantial downgrade in harris

"Some things you just can't question. Like you can't question why two plus two is four. So don't question it, don't try to look it up. I don't know who made it, all I know is it was put in my head that two plus two is four. So certain things happen. Why does it rain? Why am I so sexy? I don't know."

I love, love, love me some Curry..

I proposed the same trade (or very close to this) about 4 months back. There is no player that I want more than Curry. Young but mature, a lights out shooter, unselfish and confident. All the things that I hope for in a elite player.

by parkinglotj on Feb 22, 2011 11:10 PM PST up reply actions

Why??

Why so quick to trade Miller??

by HammsPounder on Feb 23, 2011 12:58 AM PST up reply actions

Gerald Wallace

I’m not huge on him, but the latest rumor is that Charlotte only wants an expiring contract and a protected first round pick.
Sounds like Przybilla and the NOH pick to me. However, that doesn’t work under the CBA trade rules. But if you add Babbitt OR E-will OR Patty OR Armon, it works. Perhaps this is why they want Camby back ASAP and recalled Armon Johnson?

Of course, I would love it if the deal could be expanded to include DJ Augustin:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=624qcb7
Not sure they’d do that deal. Basically, it’s Joel , Dre, Rudy and Patty for Wallace, Augustin and Kwame.

The key to a deal for Wallace IMO is to NOT give up Batum. If your SF rotation is Nico and Gerald Wallace, you’ve got oodles of D at the 3.

Wesley Matthews for Paul Millsap!

Utah has too many PFs now. And we still have more wings than we need, even after Roy’s injury.

So let’s change history on the two Utah Jazz/Portland Trailblazers free agency moves of the past few years.

by howlingfantods on Feb 23, 2011 10:47 AM PST reply actions

A Center?

Utah is blowing it up…

Would you give up on the potential of Oden for a known quantity in Jefferson? Przybilla plus Oden for Jefferson works. A big man lineup of Aldridge, Jefferson, and Camby is pretty impressive. This is a deal that helps Portland this year, and only is a negative down the line if Oden dominates in a post-season.

Utah would do this for a year of seeing if they can get Oden healthy, and severe ties otherwise. I suspect Portland would be sending cash and a draft pick or two in this deal, but I think I’d do it….

Camby the only center on the roster? Any problems?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4973pjy

and give houston a first rounder. Maybe they get a center with it.

Brooks, Iggy, Matthews, Smith, Aldridge as starting five
Camby first man off the bench, Batum next. Its the amazing defense small ball style team. Everyone can switch on pick and rolls other than brooks, we’re fast as all get-out… the natural progression of the system we’ve been running the last month or so. Roy is still there, so we can figure out what he is in due time. Only weakness is against the physical centers in the league, and not many of them are left (Howard is about it.)
Atl gets GO, a chance at a real center next to Horford and Miller makes them ready-made for a real run next year if Greg is healthy. Philly gets to develop Jrue Holiday or at least gets an alternative in the short run while getting some real cap relief and finally getting Iggy off their hands with a somewhat real offer. (maybe throw in a second round pick or something there)

Houston is really the sticking point, as far as I can tell, although I’m not sure they’re really that high on Brooks these days anyway. We can give him a reasonable extension right now, as he comes back to oregon.

What does everyone think?

by avalancheman on Feb 23, 2011 11:40 AM PST reply actions   1 recs

I don't mean to be harsh but...

When you drop a team by 10 wins, they are going to want more than two corpses and ‘maybe a second round pick’

by PhilGB on Feb 23, 2011 12:08 PM PST up reply actions

money off their books this year and next...

when they are fighting for one of the last playoff spots out east as is and are more or less still rebuilding… Iggy is a darn good player but he has been in rumors everywhere. Maybe we would have to give up our other first rounder to them… fine, that would be ok with me, maybe we give them Babbitt, no problem…
The estimations of wins won or lost is somewhat bogus anyway…
And this trade is bogus in the first place… way too many big pieces in play to be realistic… just a very fun thought. I wanted more an assessment of the potential damage we could do IF that lineup could be had. The idea of trading for one or two players might be realistic, but im just going all out here.
