BRoy and CP3 Comparable?

I just wanted to get peoples thoughts on a comparison between Brandon Roy and Chris Paul. If I am recalling correctly the first year when Paul got injured the Hornets struggled and Paul missed a lot of games. The second year he made a comeback and the Hornets still got stomped in the playoffs but looked a little better. I will try to go over the stats after the jump.

Star-divide

Roy:

Roy only plays 47 games and only starts 23 - knees ailing due to lack of cartilage

Year Team GP GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
2010–11 Portland 47 23 27.9 .400 .333 .848 2.6 2.7 0.8 .3 12.2

Paul:

Paul sprained his ankle and had a torn meniscus which caused him to miss some games.

2009–10 New Orleans 45 45 38.0 .493 .409 .847 4.2 10.7 2.4 .2 18.7
2010–11 New Orleans 80 80 36.0 .463 .388 .878 4.1 9.8 2.4 .1 15.8

I guess it will take seeing Roys numbers this year to tell if they are comparable, but Paul actually put up pretty good numbers the games he did play his injured year. He also had one of his weaker years... so let me know what you think...

Other than shooting percentages, points, rebounds, steals, assists, and minutes played...

… their numbers look very similar

Paul is a point guard, about as pure as they get.

Roy is a shooting guard, who is a pretty good passer. Paul definitely defends 1’s better then Brandon defends 2’s.

I dont waste alot of time with stats, I know this much though,

whatever team Roy is on is gonna go a lot farther than whatever team Paul is on this year

Well, neither are Bone on Bone

since they both have intact articular cartilage. But, ‘articular cartilage on articular cartilage’ is a bit of a mouthful. Besides, it’s well known that Paul supposedly might possibly have articular cartilage on articular cartilage in at least one knee.

lol

well known that Paul supposedly might possibly

There’s a rumor that some people are suggesting that Dwight Howard might consider playing next to an elite big under teh right circumstances, which might possibly be speculated by some to possibly be LaMarcus Aldridge.

Yeah, it's really John Hollinger's fault

He was the first major media member I remember making the claim that CP3’s knee was in a similar state to Brandon Roy’s, due to both of them having similar procedures. While it’s certainly possible that all of the meniscus was removed from CP3’s knee during the procedure, I think the general assumption is that only half of the meniscus in his left knee was removed (probably the lateral), and at worst, no meniscus in his left knee, as you said.

But really, that’s still worlds better than Brandon’s claim that he has no meniscus remaining in either knee.

by Royster on Dec 6, 2011 11:21 PM PST up reply actions

There were definitely some small timers that spread the rumor first

But yeah, Hollinger popularized it.

All my friends around the country love Big Greg, they are like "if you have ever got a chance to see him play in the 82 games he has, it is the most amazing thing ever"

My kids love Big Greg, they have never seen him play live but they have seen clips and they are like BIIIIIIIIG GREEEEEEEEEG! whenever they see him
Greg Oden is my favorite basketball player ever. period. I feel about him the way that Tebow fans feel about tim
The only thing that could be better is if Big Greg embaced Islam
That would be it for me, the proverbial mountaintop

What do you mean by "gimmick account"

I’m not sure if that is an insult, but if it is why do you come on here to put people down?

by AbuFatimah on Dec 7, 2011 7:59 PM PST up reply actions

The big difference is

Chris Paul is still considered a superstar worth trading half your team for, and Brandon is treated like he has some nerve, not medically retiring himself.

Seriously, I’m astonished that CP3 doesn’t get the “chronically injured, not much left in the knees” treatment, when he clearly isn’t a very durable player destined for a long career.

by superfly05 on Dec 7, 2011 11:57 AM PST reply actions

me too

I would never make that type of investment in a guy that is One injury away from being done, but obviously there are allot of teams willing to pay a kings ransom for Chris Paul
I just hope it is not the Blazers

Does this mean that Roy could play PG?

And we could deal RayFelt, thus getting Wesley into the starting lineup?

The ONLY Similarity...

They both have two first names… That’s it…
