Edit: Let me qualify this post by saying I would NOT do this trade unless it was an extend and trade for CP3. Giving up young talent for a one year rental is obviously a horrible idea. If you think CP3 will be dealt elsewhere please tell me where and for who/what.
CP3 appears to be really on his way out of NOH this time. Would he be a good fit in Portland? What would we have to give up? Would CP3 be willing to stay? What does a league owned Hornets want in return so that they can be a stable and viable franchise to purchase?
These are a few questions I discuss.
First of all I truly believe CP3 will not stay in NOH. I am not alone in the opinion. It's not that he's a bad guy. He just wants a chance to compete for a championship. With West's injury and only 6 players currently under contract, does anyone really believe the Hornets will be competitive?
Here is what I believe we would have to give up for CP3
Blazers Get: CP3
Hornets Get: Batum, Felton, We$ Matthews
The money matches up and although the Blazers get the decided talent advantage the Hornets do get a solid return. They get a young talented core with reasonable contracts. They get needed depth (they only have 6 guys under contract). They eliminate getting Lebron'd or Melo'd.
Would CP3 extend to play in PDX?? That is a huge question. My personal feeling is that he would enjoy playing with crash, roy, aldridge and oden. What do y'all think would you do this trade?
New starting Five
Hornets - felton, matthews, batum, landry, Okafor
Blazers - Paul, Roy, wallace, LMA, Camby/Oden?
Note: I know we eliminate depth with this trade but I believe in the NBA it is important to solidify your starting lineup and then consider your bench.
I remember a few years ago when Webster went down and we were doomed. Who is this 19 year old kid from france? Well who is Elliot Williams, who is Nolan Smith. Perhaps they are our new future. Besides the bench can always be addressed in FA. James Jones with Bi-Annual Exception. Rasual Butler, Larry Hughes, Daquan Cook with MLE. So money options when talking bench
