Clippers will be a team to be reckoned with in the west

I tuned into the Laker and Clipper game Monday night. All I have to say is Wow! The Clippers look scary good. Chris Paul (my favorite non-Blazer) has completely changed the way they play. He's making DeAndre Jordan look like an all star center and is generally making life easier for all of his teammates. The addition of Billups too makes them really difficult to deal with, as he is money in the bank when left open. Chris Paul is usually a one-man wrecking crew on defenses and now when teams try to trap or double team him, he has guys he can pass to who can take advantage of a scrambling defense. I know this team lost Gordon, Aminu, and Kamen, but they added CP3, Billups, Caron Butler, and now rebounding machine Reggie Evans. That is a huge upgrade in the immediate. Maybe some of my impression was due to the Lakers taking a step back or not taking the preseason very seriously, but I was very impressed with what I saw from the Clips. The Blazers will definitely have their hands full with them this year.

We'll see

In this condensed scheduled the clippers could be the new injury prone team of the west.

I hope not.

Instead of injuries, it would be more fun to see the Clips stay healthy, play some really exciting basketball, and lose to the Blazers in the playoffs.

doubt it

only CP3 looks like a liability, and I think he’ll have a good year

Butler? He had almost the same injury Pryz had

And we all know how you feel about Joel…Not to mention Reggie Evans, who is both a) the first, last, and only big man off their bench and b) Greg Oden-esque injury prone. Mo Williams hasn’t had a full strength season in a while, and he’s the only half-way decent player they have outside the starters.

The only thing holding them back now is a guy named Vinny Del Negro.

How many games will Chris Paul miss this year?

He gets injured every year, but this season only being out 2 weeks means missing as many as 8-10 games.

He will have at least one spell of about month missed — thats a ton of games this season.

One preseason game against a team that is old and understands that the NBA season really starts in March isn’t an indication of anything.

Teams that play around the rim are going to start off well, as it will take shoorts and extra month this season to catch up.

I agree the clips look dangerous

On paper they look scary, but the schedule gauntlet will be brutal for any team, injury wise. I think any team that stays healthy has a shot at winning.

True but...

They do, but when the owner historically doesn’t give a lick, except turning a profit. They should hold their loyalities else where.

I was up in the air on this when they landed CP3

but then they went out and nabbed Billups, Butler, Evans and re-signed Jordan. They aren’t very deep but Billups is solid insurance on CP3’s knees.

I’m not really sure where they end up. I consider them playoff bound but I don’t see them getting past WCF. They’d be a tough team for us to play in the playoffs though. Can you imagine getting knocked out in the first round by the Clippers? That would suck.

by poorwebguy on Dec 21, 2011 4:46 PM PST reply actions

Minus Evans

and they did all that before they landed cp3.

"He's making DeAndre Jordan look like an all star center"

Not sure 6 & 6 gets him into the AS game :-) Jordan still looks really raw, but then so did Tyson Chandler, and CP3 made him look pretty good, too.

by BaylessFace on Dec 21, 2011 4:57 PM PST reply actions

In addition to their bench

a lot of other questions:

CP3’s health
Blake developing his post game. Right now his repertoire down there is pretty small. Good defensive teams will keep shutting him down until he develops a stronger go-to move (his spin and turnaround are decent counters, though)
Jordan’s help defense (beyond blocking shots)
Chancey’s health and ability to guard the 2
VdN’s coaching acumen in the playoffs

Still, any team has question marks. Not so many can honestly say that if they answer them they’re championship contenders. Of the list above, I actually think Coach VdN may be the question mark. He’s pretty young and early reviews haven’t been great.

Not sold on LAC yet.

Chris Paul or no Chris Paul, the Clippers will be lucky to finish .500 unless Blake Griffin figures out how to translate his (undeniably impressive) explosiveness into wins. If CP3 misses ANY significant time, look for another tough year for the Clips. Even when Paul played out of his mind for the Hornets and he had decent role players by his side they didn’t always play top-notch ball. Let’s wait 20 games or so before making a prediction on their season.

I dont know why we are having some quasi clipper manlove fest over here but,

Anybody who wants to jump on a CLIPPERS? bandwagon, come back here if they ever make the playoffs in back to back years
It will NEVER happen
That is like when Mariner fans tell you EVERY season that they are going to win the division
in one ear, out the other
Good luck being a Clippers fan
I feel really bad for you

Exactly

I never thought that I would live to see a clippers bandwagon
I am so embarrassed that it is people from Portland
Hopefully they were just some of the Bandwagoneers
If that’s the case good riddens

Having a healthy respect for an opposing team does not make me a fan of the Clippers

For what it’s worth, I think OKC will be tough for us to play also. Does that make me any less of a fan of the Blazers? I doubt it. I have loved the Blazers ever since Jim Paxson was our best player. I don’t think you need to question my loyalty to the Blazers. You might need to chill a little my man and lighten up on your criticism of people on this blog. Try to be happy. It’s the holidays.

I apologize if you feel I am talking about you

As you know the Clippers have won one preseason game.
If you been around since Pax that means Im speaking for you too

Not quite

Eagles fans are used to .500 seasons
To a clippers fan .500 is like winning the superbowl

The Eagles had way more hype before the season than the Clippers.

I remember a lot of columnists dubbing them an all star team. No one is saying the Clippers are going to win it all I don’t think, but a 4th seed might be stretching it too.
