2012 Off season Looks good for the Blazers
Did anybody know if we amnesty Roy next off-season we would be at a 33million dollar payroll? We would have to spend 24million to be over the cap. Notable free agents:
All Stars: Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, Steve Nash.
Others: Jason Terry, Kirk Hinrich, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Chauncey Billups, Ronny Turiaf, Raymond Felton, Tim Duncan, Leandro Barbosa and lots more.
We also most likely are going to re sign Batum and Oden. Wallace has a player option, so he could opt out making the spending number 34million, but if he does that we would have four players on roster: LA, Wes Matthews, Luke Babbitt, Eliot Williams.
What do you think? Who should we bring back? Who should we try to sign? Remember we got to fill the roster.
Here’s a full list of free agents: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-11-12

I’d rather make a move now for this years free agency, then blindly believe one of the top tier guys will sign with Portland
If we can get past the first round and establish ourselves as competitors this year
then we could have a decent shot at a star next year. I’m pretty sure most players want the ring more than anything else. that’s why you don’t see durant or tony parker or Dirk Nowitzki trying to switch teams. they know that their management can get them a championship winning team. Dwight Howard will leave Orlando because Orlando has no way to get a championship team because of their ridiculous contract situations.
It’s all about the Management, people. nothing to do with weather or the media.
Gerald Wallace
will be accepting his 2 year player option, no matter what team he is on when that option arises.
Just to be clear, to get to that point
Portland would have to
- Renounce Nolan Smith before signing him this year to his rookie scale contract
- Trade away their 2012 1st round pick
- Renounce Bird rights to Marcus Camby, Nic Batum and Greg Oden
- Renounce Early Bird rights to Raymond Felton, Earl Barron, Armon Johnson, Chris Johnson and Patty Mills
- Renounce the draft rights to Victor Claver and Joel Freeland
Do the Blazers have their first round pick?
I keep thinking they traded it away to get Wallace. I could be mistaken.

I heard somewhere that they dealt 2013, probably to Charlotte
which means they have to keep/use their 2012 and 2014
unless they acquire someone else’s 2013, first
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
2013 1st rounder went to the Bobcats in the Wallace trade
2012 1st rounder still belongs to the Blazers
If I was GM there is no way I would throw away all this talent and assets we have been blessed here in Portland
To overpay some free agents?
You gotta be joking.
Lets throw away our bright future to go after free agents
Somebody wake me up
La Illaha Illallah Muhamadur Rasulallah
don't see no reason to resign Oden
The dude is just done, isn’t he? He’s hobbled now and walking like a freaking ninety year old mastodon with an arthritic hip.
Don’t know why any rational general manager would dwell on this issue more than a few minutes. Cut the dude, let some other GM take a chance on him, the dude is just gonna writhe on the floor again if he tries to be an athlete. Oden is the once-a-lifetime phenomenally gifted athlete in a body that just won’t perform the moves it is otherwise equipped to perform. Strange but I’ve seen stranger.
This is my signature. Do you like it?
It depends on where Howard, Williams and Paul are at by the trade deadline.
If they’re still with their respective teams and still want out then having cap space to sign them could be a good strategy. I’ve suggested this route before. However, if the Blazers can’t get their hands on any of those big 3 then there’s no point. It’s a high risk strategy and you’d want to know if any of those guys would want to play in Portland in the first place. Certainly, you’d have to sell them on winning rings and the fans because Portland ain’t New York or LA.

I'd go so after as to trade Wallace for a 1st round pick in the 2012 draft,
unprotected of course. That would guarantee that Wallace’ s contract comes of the books cause I suspect he will not opt out early. Trade Babbitt for a couple of 2nd round picks and renounce the rights to all our Euro’s but Freeland cause I’d bring him over next summer to backup LMA. Then go hard after Deron and if we can’t get him then sign up Felton.
Blazers will get Hinrich I bet.
I thought Rudy would be the perfect 6th man. Come back Ruuudy!
