JD 12/18/2011 Why?

Why do we stop walking in passenger conveyors and let the machine do the hard work? Yeah, they are announced

as "a comfortable and practical means of overcoming distances that would otherwise have to be WALKED!!!!!!!!!".

Man, what are healthy legs for? Why do we let glusoce rust all our veins and arteries?

Why do we eat when we are not hungry yet? Hunger is the best spice ever. What do we think hunger is for?

Why do we give gifts to our children too much in advance before they can dream about having those? Don´t we

understand the pleasure of dreaming? By the way, why do we let our children use elevators instead of telling them

to walk upstairs? I mean, just for their own good.

Motto of the day: There´s life before death!

Interesting fact: "Why" sounds exactly as "guay", which in Spanish (slang) means "cool". Why?

Vísteme despacio, que tengo prisa.

Translation: Dress me slowly, since I’m in a hurry.

Interpretation: If you do things too fast when running out of time, you might screw up. So, do them slowly and patiently.

Origin: Spanish novelist Galdós put these words in the mouth of Spanish King Fernando VII, who so talked to his dress assistant, being this one too nervous to do his work because Napoleon was back in France from Elba.

In my experience...

Most mistakes arise from the perception of lack of time. This is often self-imposed (impatience) but also quite often imposed by perceived authority figures in our lives. So, we rush. Mistakes are made. The more convenience technology provides, the more time we’re expected to fill it with work, and the more effort employers demand for lower pay, with devalued currency. And authority also demands “No excuses!” which is the least rational way to manage issues ever invented (and the laziest). How can one overcome the obstacles if we refuse to allow those we’ve delegated to, to report them? But of course, the boss has a boss above him who doesn’t care about excuses, only results.

Sometimes I take the stairs. But my body was long ago sacrificed to the gods of labor, for a pittance. I have Brandon Roy knees, sciatica and several herniated discs. Most importantly, no sympathy. It is the new way of the world. We’re expected to give ourselves to work, body and soul. And because of that, there is no time for walking.

I'm pretty sure the conveyer belts for people at the airport are to help the elderly and children.

I do think that their is an unspoken rule to stand to the right and let people who want to walk pass on the left. However, since this is so obviously forgotten when driving I don’t expect people to understand the courtesy.

Stand to the left and overtake on the right

if you’re in ’stralia, NZ, GB, Singapore and a few others.

I am not going to make a political statement.

Apparently not giving up on Brandon or Greg paid no dividends. Whatever... Go Blazers!!!

The escalators at the Rose Garden make me want to pull my hair out.

People stand two by two and just STAND there. Do they not know the rules? I know it’s not a subway escalator or anything, but THE RULES OF THE ESCALATOR STILL APPLY!

Maybe you’re thinking of stairs?

by manfredi on Dec 18, 2011 8:21 PM PST up reply actions

An escalator can never break—it can only become stairs. You would never see an “Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order” sign, just “Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience. We apologize for the fact that you can still get up there.”

by Timmay! on Dec 18, 2011 8:51 PM PST up reply actions

I have been on the escalator a few times when it broke

…..I and others had to literally yell at people to start walking down the stinking thing!

Yep I was serious. I wonder which rum I've been using recently.

Taking a look… Cruzan Black Cherry is what I’m trying right now.

I think that is the same stuff I have

also tastes surprisingly good mixed with OJ …sort of a Tequila Sunrise effect. We actually bought it to make Black Cherry Mojitos….. mix with peach schnaps, sprite and mint. Good stuff

Ok, that’s a lie. They weren’t better things to do. But they were things that did not include being on Blazersedge, unfortunately.
