With Roy retiring, Portland might need a new offensive scoring machine. and I think that Monta Ellis
is the solution. Here's why:
1. He's lighting quick
2. He gets to the basket AND finishes
3. He makes big plays
4. He can hit the 3
5. He consistently scores
but in order to get him, portland would have to trade either batum, wallace, or wesley. PLUS raymond felton may need to be inlcuded in the deal as well. but out of all of those, I would trade Gerald Wallace
. Here is why:
Batum and Wesley are cheap in terms of salary.
Batum is just turning 23
Wesley plays great defense
Don't get me wrong, I think that wallace is a great basketball player. but when you are in need of a point guard and offensive scorer and you have a guy like Nic Batum, you gotta go with Ellis over Wallace. Also wallace's contract pretty much matches Ellis'.
and right now with Roy's contract not going to affect Portland's salary cap, that leaves portland with $2 million to spend and then that will even out to about $500k to spend, if you swap ellis and wallace's contracts.
then after this season camby, felton and oden's contracts expire. leaving portland with about over $22-23 million to spend next summer.
It's a long shot, but it makes some sense. and the thing about Ellis is, he is realistic.
