Blazers F Nicolas Batum Leads SLUC Nancy Past Lyon-Villeurbanne
Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum scored 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 5 assists for SLUC Nancy in a 92-77 victory over Lyon-Villeurbanne on Sunday.
The game represented a battle for NBA bragging rights in France, as San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker and New York Knicks big man Ronny Turiaf both play for Lyon-Villeurbanne.
LNB.FR has a box score.
Here's a fun translation from Cyril Belaud of the AFP.
Nicolas Batum has eclipsed Tony Parker and Ronny Turiaf in the battle between the NBA stars to lead a team of more mature Nancy to victory against Asvel 92-77 (halftime: 47-38) at the 5th day of ProA, Sunday at Villeurbanne.
Air penetration, to clever shots, skillful technician in the low post, Batum has made a real demonstration. The winger scored a Portland Trailblazers game worthy of its products in Euroleague, with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists.
Lexpress.FR has a great photo of Batum tossing up a floater in a pretty sick black jersey.
Thanks to Blazersedge French Correspondent Bruno for the tip.

Go Nico! Keep getting better!
Maybe this will be the confidence boost he needs to become more aggressive in the NBA.
PTB Liberation Day - 2/10/04
Euro play is great for Nic
His game/confidence seems to have been elevated by his dominant performances. I guess over there its easier to star. Over here, hes not the only star so he tends to sit back and let everyone else run the show. I hope he brings the aggressive play back to the states with him. Weve all seen him take over a game or 2 before and know he is capable of being one of the best wings in the game. Anyways great job Nic, keep up the good work and keep building your confidence.

Batum getting jacked?
is it just me or does Batum look like hes building some muscle mass?
Not just you,
I was thinking the same thing.
Mike Rice: "Camby nearly rejected that with his Armpit!"
Mike Barrett: "Now that would be a fragrant foul."
Great job by Nic. But just for a healthy dose of perspective: The Euroleague MVP of week 3 was Jordan Farmar
Scoring 27 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds in a win over Rudy’s Real Madrid. Farmar is a good player, but he’s really no NBA superstar.
Even though it’s much better for Nic to stay active, experience some success leading a team, winning and working on his game than to sit out the lockout, we shouldn’t raise the ceiling for him too much just based on his play in France.

Ah, Sergio's defense is one thing I don't miss about him...
In fact, BallInEurope has been commenting on how appalling Real Madrid’s defense overall has been.
(Farmar’s big game was an anomaly. He is by no means a Euro-Star. Yet.)
