Lets discuss NBA's problems and propose solutions

Seeing as how there's no NBA basketball being played I started thinking about some ways the league could be better. This isn't so much about CBA negotiations as it is naming what you find to be a fault of the league as a fan and something(s) that could be done to make it better.

I find teams out of playoff contention tanking games for better draft position to be in poor form, but what really bothers me is this new stigma about being a bubble playoff team (i.e. one of the teams fighting for the 7th or 8th seed). It seems that the slim lottery odds are being weighted too heavily against winning. Teams and fanbases dread being stuck in the perpetuity of winning just enough to screw yourself with teams that often have a solid core but just need a little more talent. For example this year the East featured Indiana as the 8th seed and Philly as the 7th. Both teams have talented SF's to build around in AI and Granger, so its not like these are talentless teams with no hope.

My proposal is to snake the draft order, so the first round would stay the same but the second round would be the reverse order. In addition there would be a tiered lottery among the playoff teams for their picks in the 2nd round. Picks 1-8 would be assigned to teams that lost in the first round while 9-12 would go to second round losers in a separate lottery, etc.

Furthermore I think this would help the league on several fronts. Often players taken at the top of the 2nd round are best suited to be role players. If they had the talent to lead a team then they would have gone long before, but instead they weren't even deemed worthy of a guaranteed contract. Now which type of team would value a potentially solid, but unspectacular role player, the Spurs or the Kings? These players are not the ones you build a team around, they're the ones where you identify the one or two things they do well and pick the guy who's skill-set matches a team need. Players would be put in a better position to succeed, on teams that can better utilize them. And the lower playoff seeds would have better draft position in the 2nd round as well as a shot at postseason success to help offset the loss of slim lottery odds.

Feel free to comment on my idea, but also let us know what bothers you about the NBA and what you think could be done to address it. It could be anything from the economics to bathrooms to team jerseys to whatever, I'm sure between all us bedgers we have enough NBA related pet peeves to make this thread a rockin!

TV Contracts

I’d like NBC to get NBA tv rights again.

I’m very pro-ESPN but I think their NBA coverage is lacking.

I loved the NBC coverage as a kid

Still miss the John Tesh song they used to use.

Also, as lacking as ESPN’s coverage is ABC’s is abysmal. If you don’t have cable then all you get is the occasional ABC game whereas NBC used to have several games every weekend.
