I know that the man has nothing to do with the Blazers nor of the NBA even, but he certainly was an iconic and controversial giant in sports. His measure for the Raiders and the NFL is remarkable. His passing while not completely unexpected given his age and failing health still was a bit shocking to hear regardless. RIP Mr.Davis.
His passing also got me thinking about a future passing of Paul Allen which is something that I pray does not happen for a long, long time. However when that day does come we in Portland will have lost someone whose passion for NBA has allowed us to remain relevant even when most small markets are run more like minor league affiliates for the larger markets. I am afraid that we will be destined for a similar fate once Mr Allen passes, as I simply cannot imagine another with similar nearly limitless resources taking the reigns. Here is to hoping that he stays with us for a long time, and that his passion is finally rewarded after all of these years with an NBA title or two.
