One man's Junk is another... naw it's still the Junk Drawer 1/7/2010
Well I am not 100% certain but I believe this is my first attempt at a Junk Drawer. I will likely hit post and then see another Junk Drawer that was created 2 seconds earlier... it is the story of my life... anyway I'll save my best self deprecation for my comments.
I am still trying to wrap my head around Obama's comments earlier that we still have a lot of digging to do to get out of this hole we are in. All politics aside (please!) don't you typically stop the digging when you find yourself in a hole? Maybe I am missing the metaphor. Perhaps the strategy should be to cut steps into the side of the hole and climb out of it. Maybe Obama is referring to a hole that is being dug atop a hill... although then I think the correct term would be to tunnel out of the hole? perhaps digging is a form of tunneling? If we dig too much we will reach the molten core of the Earth won't we? Anyway this is besides the point, the point I am trying to make is that the junk drawer is a fun place to comment and laugh and reminisce about the good ole days.
Rules: I believe there are some rules to be said. I believe you can look at a past junk drawer to get to rules or perform a Google search "junk drawer rule".... update: that does not actually get you the rules but the topic for today's discussion which is: "Does the Five-Second Rule Count for Ice Cream"
My apologies for all of my misspellings, poor punctuation and lack of grammar. Some random person once told me spelling and punctuation are not signs of intelligence... I took this as a fact and fear that the actual truth would crush me.
I say.... Let there be junk. See you in the comments below.
P.S. If this fanpost sucks it is Timbo's fault... I followed everything in his guide.

nothing, but nice try with the new junk!
It would have been more successful with a secret message, but what can one expect from n00bz?
She'll be right.
yes, basically, you drop food on the ground (preferably something dry like a cookie), and then you pick it up real fast, say “five second rule” and you pretend that means there wasn’t time for it to gather anything gross.
Ice cream? Disturbing to invoke the 5 second rule, although I’ve done it.
At one point, Mythbusters did an episode about the 5 second rule
I’m too lazy to see if it’s available online.

Good SI article on Phil Knight an Nike
Without Knight, Oregon would be … (gasp!) Oregon State.
ouch… as a Beaver fan that one hurts.
No, most of Knight’s spending is about recruiting. He spends to excess in order to impress high school kids. In the mixed-up world of the NCAA, schools can spend $50 million on gold-plated mouthpiece holders, but if they give a kid $1,000 to pay his mom’s mortgage, it’s a violation.

In the complicated scenario that’s being discussed, the Nets would send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and at least two first-round picks to Denver and Troy Murphy’s expiring contract to the Pistons. In return, the Nets would get Anthony and Chauncey Billups from the Nuggets and likely Richard Hamilton from the Pistons, who are looking to shed salary. Hamilton has two years and $25 million remaining on his contract.

I didn't take any in college
I never took anything special… I assume I took some sort of required Art class in HS, but I don’t remember it. For painting I am positive I got lots of techniques to learn.
With whatever I’m drawing with, I can draw my cartoony style… a stick in the sand or whatever, it don’t matter. So I figured I could do it with a tiny brush. It was fun, and I think I can do a lot better. It actually looks better in the photo than it does in person, funnily enough.

Ok, time for NFL playoff picks.
I don’t love any of the lines this week… Vegas has them at the right mark, especially in the case of GB-PHI and NYJ-IND.
SEA +10.5
BAL -3
GB +3
NYJ +3
Most of these are leans. The lines are good, so it’s largely a crapshoot.
Much of what you said is foreign to me
I need to learn more about the betting scene. I think I might be good at it.
Wiggada Wiggada Zers!
I'd say take NO.
I’d also take Philly. Reid has an excellent record historically in home playoff games, especially wild card round.
The cake was a lie.
Well, I like the Hawks as well.
But, I still picked against them. Looks how that blew up in my face.
The cake was a lie.
Absolutely terrifying. As one of the 20 Dem. Reps from districts won by McCain/Palin in ’08, she was one of the people listed on this Palin website— note the crosshairs. Coincidence? Doubtful.

long live the jd.
Yep and pretty much every major news site is covering it at this point as well
NPR just had the details up first, the other news services were working on independent confirmation (and I believe how now done so)
As much as Democrats and Republicans hate each other,
neither side would ever condone this happening to members on the other side.
"For we let our young men and women go out unarmed, in a day when armor was never so necessary. By teaching them all to read, we have left them at the mercy of the printed word. By the invention of the film and the radio, we have made certain that no aversion to reading shall secure them from the incessant battery of words, words, words. They do not know what the words mean; they do not know how to ward them off or blunt their edge or fling them back; they are a prey to words in their emotions instead of being the masters of them in their intellects." - Dorothy L. It's in bad taste for sure.
Although I would like to point out that I flagged a comment by a JD user about a month ago who basically joked that he would like to shoot Sarah Palin with a shotgun and it was never deleted.
Oh I will, right after I check to make sure my shotgun is loaded and there are no low grade Alaska moron politicians alive any where in the area

A much simpler theory is we just missed it. Unless something gets multiple flags, it often isn't seen.
Well some comments like that have had recs.
I’m not blaming the mods, but the fact that is didn’t have multiple flags is disapointing to me.

Yeah sometimes it's just that things were busy and people forget to flag
It happens at times. I dumped it btw.
Haha
I’m not really bothered by it. I know the commenter was kidding and I try not to make it a habit to defend Sarah Palin. I just hate a double standard and it seems like maybe stuff like that is a bad idea in a public forum.
Thanks though. Justice after all these weeks. My flag has been vindicated.

I never thought I'd see Hasselbeck play well again.
After that first interception, I assumed the worst.
How upset would most of the NFL be if Seattle somehow pulled off this upset?
I think the funny part is that a lot of NFL fans seem to be rooting for Seattle, just because they’re a crazy underdog.
ahahaha that's hilarious so far.
Nothing like a shocking playoff game to put everyone in a jovial mood.
I had to resist yelling NOOOOOOO... the wife is napping, that seems mean to do to her.
Meanwhile, that’s a FG for a two TD lead for a 10.5 point underdog. Wow.
when looking at mock drafts, the Seahawks need help at essentially every position except LT and FS.
a team with a weakness at nearly every level is leading the Saints by 14, and has the ball in NO territory.
I think the refs didn't want to bail them out there, but that was at least a close call. Wasn't sure how bad it was.
the combination of contact and shielding made it a no-brainer to me.
Neither infraction awful on its own, but both?
Argh that set of missteps is costing the seahawks fast.
Fourth quarter, they gotta get more points on the board or a few huge defensive plays.
This is all really costing them now too
Just that quickly, here comes NO. Man, Seattle had a golden chance to put them away earlier.
yeah, I don’t think that game exists. I watch every so often, but the “violence” is a real turnoff. For some reason that wasn’t true when I watched hockey in college. But I find the NHL boring.
The NFL commissioner is doing his best to make you a fan
They’re working hard to take the majority of the most violent stuff away, actually. Too many players were getting hurt.
Read in BW a guy who invented an anti-concussion helmet in the 80s/90s that worked but looked not sexy so only people who feared career end with another concussion wore it is now getting another chance. He’s made it slimmer, and added a third layer of protection. Existing manufacturers try to discredit it claiming less concussions but higher chance for neck injuries, but looks like FDA or whatever agency is responsible will approve it and NFL said once it gets approval players can use it.
I think there was a second NFL concern, which has come into play:
Players were using their improved helmets as a weapon when tackling. The NFL has made this top priority to stop, and I suspect they’ll want to move to the new helmets afterward.
So was New Orleans!
But I’m not worried about it, nobody ever expected Seattle to be playing past the wild card weekend.
"and that might have been the last game of Hasselbeck's Seattle career"
you realize that Seattle’s playing next week, right?
Hey everyone.....lets all head over to Jorga's junk
No reason to be cliquey
