Roy & Salary Cap Amnesty

A theoretical discussion on a somewhat likely scenario:

Remember the 2005 salary-cap amnesty that resulted from the CBA, where Portland waived Derek Anderson's hefty contract?  A recent NYT blog has a recent link regarding the likelihood of its return: (http://offthedribble.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/12/the-luke-walton-rule/)

Based on what has been publicly stated about Roy's health, do you think the Blazers would use this exception on him?  After all he has done for this franchise, it would be painful for the fans.  But I cannot think of a better player to use the exception on if the team wants to semi-rebuild.  Thoughts?
