All you ever hear about is unloading expiring contracts, but is it always the best decision? Why do you never hear about teams keeping them? I know the Knicks, Nets, and Miami stockpiled them last year for the chance at Lebron which makes sense, but letting one or two expire on your own team never has an advantage?
It just seems that our expiring contracts won't bring us anything better than what we have now so why not just let them expire? Is it possible to pick up a free agent this summer that way instead of trying to conjure up some crazy trade for another team to complete?
It just seems Portland is more than just one or two pieces away now. It just seems more logical to keep the expiring contracts, and try to rebuild while holding on to the core of Aldridge, Batum, and Matthews. What would be the point of receiving players of the same playing level, and getting stuck with their two or three years they may have left on their contracts further hog tieing any efforts to improve the team?
Can someone convince me why no matter what that dealing away expiring contracts is always better?
