Which Blazers do fans of other teams hate?

Watching Denver reminded me of my dislike of J.R. Smith. He may actually be a nice guy, but he has always rubbed me the wrong way.

Anyways, it got me thinking about the "bad guys" in the league. The people who fans of other teams love to hate. Some times it's the star players like Lebron and Kobe. Other times it is a role player who just strikes the fan base wrong whether it be for cheap shots or devastating shots (Robert Horry, Bruce Bowen and Bill Laimbeer come to mind).

So here's the real question on my mind. Who are the players on the current Blazer roster that fans of other teams hate? Any particular fan base dislike a certain player?

you're thinking of the Minnesota fans

they’re still sore that JP left the U of Minn early

he played in Milwaukee, bulked up because Karl thought he needed to, then hurt his knee and John Nash brought Joel to Portland when no other NBA team wanted him

The Przybillas live in Wisconsin during the offseason, so I don’t think he’s hated there

Rudy. EVERYbody hates Rudy.

because he’s floppy. And the 3 goggles, of course (speaking of JR Smith).

He’s our flopper, though, so it’s okay.

Same with Joel.

Gotta be Joel

I no longer live in Oregon, and so I have to watch all my Blazers games with League Pass. As a result, half the games I watch have the opposing teams commentators, and universally they all hate Joel. I have heard him called “The King of the moving screen” more times than I care to count. And usually Joel will alternative get accused of flopping or being a talentless thug who beats up the other players. The only other guy who would come close, is Rudy, also for his “flopping” routine. I have heard him referred to as a European soccer player more than once, lol.

Joel

But I think Wes will get pretty hated in Utah in the near future if he keeps beating them.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

No doubt, Joel

He’s gotten into it with more opponents than anybody else on the roster by far. That’s why we love the guy, though.

You don't think they had a reason already?

They acquired him in 2003 for Darius Miles and promptly traded him a year later because he didn’t fit in.

ps. I say it’s to Andre’s credit that he didn’t fit in with that dysfunctional mess of a team, fwiw.

Joel would be #1, like others have said

Rudy and Andre both have their share of detractors.

I’ve also read other teams’ fans complain about Roy’s style of play. Especially that he only plays for contact, rather than actually scoring. He also has a reputation as a whiner.

We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.

Dre

i don’t think Clipper fans like him too much after he laid out Griffin. The Mavs probably don’t really care for him either after he dropped 52 on them a year ago.

Jazz fans don't like Mathews anymore, that's for sure.

Apparently he’s too cocky, and is supposed to stop scoring when his team is up. Even though the Jazz have been known for their comebacks this year.

Thank you Wesley.

Joel is too pasty and squeezable to be hate material

Rudy, maybe, but he’s kind of a dork to be the target of hate.

What about Dant e? He’s got that cold meanness to him. Like a reptile.

Free markets have long been the basis for a legitimate - though rightly debated - economic policy framework. But they have become little more than a robotically-recited cultural catechism, a mindless mantra mumbled to mask the looting of the nation's resources that is the true purpose of Republican economic policy as demonstrated by the staggering upward transfers of wealth that inevitably occur under Republican regimes. A more complete, conspicuous, catastrophic, and irrefutable repudiation of right wing leaders, right wing policies, and right wing ideology could not possibly be contrived.

Johnson does like to shoot it

Which makes it ironic to recall how some were calling him a “Nate McMillian kind” of PG, a few months ago

AJ will have the same learning curve that Bayless did—and receive the same amount of inconsistent minutes—even though he was a 2nd rounder and Jerryd was a lottery pick

If Armon’s lucky he’ll play for a different head coach before he’s shipped out of Portland as a throw-in for some draft day deal

by B-Lazer on Jan 2, 2011 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

we don't know

well, if you recall, Armon was doing the “game management” thing early in the season, being a good little point guard. Nate realized (correctly) that this wasn’t really developing his game and encouraged him to open up offensively. He’s not bad, but this also came with a TON of turnovers. Patty has the same problems but to a lesser degree, and that’s why he’s playing. There is really only room for one backup PG so even if Nate thinks Patty’s a 5.5 and Armon’s a 5.2, he’ll never see the court given the current set-up.

by manzell on Jan 2, 2011 9:55 PM PST up reply actions

It seems to me

that Patty is getting the PT because he has a more diverse offensive game. Patty can drive and score from deep, but AJ lacks an outside shot. AJ brings more defense, but the Blazers already have wing defense in spades, with Wes and Batum. With Roy out, we are sorely lacking in offensive capability, and hence, AJ sits while Patty gets the nod.

by NCBlazerfan on Jan 3, 2011 12:13 PM PST up reply actions

ehhh

the switch happened before Roy started sitting, and I think Armon’s shown a encouraging 3pt stroke. I think a thing with Armon is that he seemed to be backsliding a little bit rather than progressing when Nate gave him more leeway.

M, period. Fresh, comma.

by manzell on Jan 3, 2011 12:43 PM PST up reply actions

aka Armon was absolutely killing us before he got dropped to 3rd string

the team is competitive right now and Patty has the experience necessary to minimize the dropoff when Dre is out.

Just like in 2008-2009 when Sergio played and Bayless (the lottery choice) sat. Their stats were very even when Blake was out with a shoulder injury. Nate said he preferred Rodriguez because he was familiar with the offense (and those crowd-pleasing alley-oops to Rudy didn’t hurt) This year, Patty had almost as little NBA experience as AJ. Johnson looked much better in summer league and (apparently) in fall camp. But finally Armon’s WAC education caught up to him and the league’s scouts wrote the book on him and that shortly led to repeated turnovers on telegraphed passes into the post.

If Cho wants to help Johnson’s development along, he’ll send AJ over to Idaho for a few weeks for some regular PT for Randy Whitman and alongside Antoine Walker.

I'll bet Utah fans have little love for Wesley Matthews anymore...

Last year Utah could do no wrong against us. This year we seem to have them figured out, and Matthews is a big part of that. He sent Utah a message with his play in Thursday’s meeting especially, looking aggressively to score even when garbage time had firmly set in and the benchwarmers were in for both sides. I’m sure it didn’t sit well with their fans (I know the good folk over at SLC Dunk were none too pleased).

I’ll bet Dallas fans won’t soon forget Andre Miller’s ridiculous 52-point-game-saving-performance down there last season and at least give a little groan when he steps on the floor.

By virtue of his unoffical “enforcer” role, Joel Przybilla gets his share of contempt from the fans I’m sure, deserved or not…

The players I loathe the most on other teams are the streaky 3-point shooters who always kill us no matter how well we defend the paint or rebound… So if other fans around the country feel the same way, some may have ill-feelings toward Rudy as well.

Brandon Roy

T’wolves. I used to hang out on their site – official BE ambassador to them, but the main blogger there was so loud in his hate for the Blazers and Roy that it was difficult for me to diplomatic. He had no logical reason (not logical to me anyway) so I couldn’t understand it. I don’t even remember now how he explained it … but it stays in my mind as sour grapes – Roy was better than Foye and Blazers were better than Wolves.

I found the quote

From a main page post : There are only three teams in the NBA that I just straight-up do not like: the Lakers, the Blazers, and the Nuggets. LA stole our championships, the Blazers stole our luck, and the Nuggets…well, they just plain suck.

I replied (in part) : “the Blazers stole our luck” —- with this you aren’t even shooting the messenger, you are shooting the recipient of the message! Keep shooting at McHale and start loving the Blazers!

He replied : I don’t think I’ll ever be able to enjoy a Blazer game with Roy or Oden on the roster. Unless Foye turns into an upper-level player and the Wolves win a coin flip to land some sort of once-in-a-generation type talent at his position it’s just going to be a bunch of sour grapes on my part…admittedly so. ;)

I will add today : Do you suppose this guy knows voodoo?

Rockets fan here:

I’d probably have to go with Joel.

He introduced the technique of fronting Yao in the playoffs, and flopped whenever Yao backed him down. Of course, we have Scola, so I don’t have much room to talk, but I am answering the fanpost.

I also dislike Brandon Roy. Not because he is a bad guy, but because he doesn’t miss a shot in the last few minutes against us every game. And for this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-McSwCxU9q0

When I was searching this, I just typed in Brandon Roy and immediately there was a clip of this shot. Kind of depressing.
