Blazersedge Scrubdown Round 3, Matchup 2
Ben will keep the FIBA fires burning this weekend, but meanwhile...
We are up to the semi-finals of the Blazersedge Scrubdown...three head-to-head matchups that will determine the finalists. One of those finalists will be crowned Portland's favorite not-quite-star-level Blazer. The voting was tight in every second round race. Let's see who advances and who has to go home.
To add extra interest to this round in addition to your vote, cast clearly in the subject line of your comment, we'd like you to answer the following questions (if you would):
- Which of these players is better overall?
- Which of these players was more valuable to the Portland teams they played on?
- Which of these players would you rather have on this year's team?
Note that while we're interested in hearing the reasoning behind your answers, that reasoning doesn't bind you to a vote. You're free to vote for any reason, even if that means saying Player A was better in all three categories but you're still going with Player B for other reasons or just because...neener-neener!
The second matchup of the third round: Mark Bryant versus Stacey Augmon. Vote for your favorite below!

I'd rather have Bryant
…because I think we have the wing positions covered defensively and Augmon would just be redundant. And having another bruiser power forward wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Bryant
‘cuz he’s a Blazer (originally)

Bryant
1) Up to age 32 or 33, Bryant was actually more productive
2) Bryant was better with the Blazers, and played more years
3) Bryant

Ummmm.... Bryant(?)
He took out Pops, the guy who deserves to win this whole thing, so I’ll go with the mediocre backup power forward who just happened to play for the team for a long time and who played in the Internet era.

But it doesn't serve anyone to bash the Trail Blazers or Paul. It is after all a business of tough decisions. So, for the sake of the players, coaches and everyone who believes in Trail Blazers basketball, let's turn the page, move on and keep our eye on the prize." -KP

Much bigger fan of Augmon, but if 2/3 categories makes for a winner, then it’s Bryant.

My first Blazers memory was the trade of Drexler, so I have to recognize Augmon on this
Augmon again

1. Augmon, had better skills
2. Bryant, filled the needs at the time and knew his role
3. Would be a great banger inside for us now backing up LMA, hopefully Pendergraph can copy his game and add some offense.
2/3 for Bryant
Augmon

When they asked me how you danced, I'll say that you danced real close.
Bryant
1. Augmon
2. Bryant
3. Bryant, because he was a somewhat more polished Pendy, while Augmon absolutely could not do the Portland – his shooting range was 5 feet on a good day.
Bryant...
Since I wanted Wayne Cooper and Caldwell Jones respectively against these two guys all I can say is “Meh…who cares?” But since the people have spoken and instead of Cooper and Jones, I’m forced to once again evaluate Bryant and Augmon…this time I’ll give Bryant the nod based mostly on the fact that I saw him once on the escalator at Clackamas Town Center.
He gave me a look that said " Please don’t talk to me, I just want to shop" and I respected that…..It’s the same look most women in the Malls still give me…but that’s a different story….
#1. Augmon probably going to be considered more skilled, because he was more athletic and had a nickname from a DC Comic.
#2. Very slight edge to Augmon because of his defensive skills. But IMO for much of his career Bryant was the guy that allowed Buck Williams to rest and wipe off his goggles. Wiping off your goggles is important…..
#3. Believe it or not, despite Portlands seeming lack of a tough, inside “banger” type player, I’m going to say I’d rather have Augmon. Better defender, better all over game, less of a one dimensional role player. IMO Bryant was ultimately just a journeyman PF during his time here, if he was here today he wouldn’t be anything more and I really like the idea of having a Stacey Augmon on the bench to provide defense, with the versatility I think to spell Batum, and maybe even occasionally Brandon.
So I’m voting Bryant, but evaluating an edge for Augmon….Neener Neener…

Bryant
1. Augmon
2. Don’t really remember, but I’ll say Bryant
3. We could really use a back up power forward like Bryant, and we have Mathews and Batum as good defensive wing players (maybe not Augmon good yet, but hopefully they’ll get there) So anyway it’s Bryant.

Bryant
Augmon was a better overall player and had a more productive career but most of that production came as a Hawk. Bryant is a Blazer through and through and was more valuable to his Blazer teams than Augmon if only by a hair.
Bryant would be a nice fit for our current Blazers. He could come in and bang for a few minutes a night providing some tough interior D and rebounding off the bench. Augmon would hopefully be redundant if Matthews pans out as that tough wing defender off the bench.

Bryant.
He played to his potential. Augmon was the better player, but he did not use the skill set that he was given. But I guess Pippen kind of made that hard.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
Bryan

It was hard to vote against him in the last round, which I did, so I’ll make up for it here. I just don’t remember Augmon with the Blazers.
Bryant
Mark Bryant once had the most unique haircut I’d ever seen in the early 90s. I’m serious, this is not a joke, I never once saw any other Black male (much less another NBA player) rock a wavy box cut. I do not know how it was even possible, but he did.
He had a normal box for awhile viewable, here:

But then he later sported a similar cut, but with waves along the top… and not little waves either, like big waves, the amplitude of which was probably a full inch or so.
For THAT, I give the nod to Mark Bryant. And should he win the Scrubdown, we MUST find a picture of him in this haircut.

Give me Augmon’s defense. I love me some good defense. Plus where has all the love of nicknames gone? This crowd is fickle.
