Devin Harris to Blazers?
Reading over this article and it says the Nets are trying to find a team to send Devin Harris to. I was thinking why don't we try and get in on this and get Harris and give up some of the multiple chips we have.

Alot of times by the time we hear about it, if hasnt happened, it already fell through!
But…it could happen if we came in and sweetened the pot. Alot of people said throw in Millers contract. I say throw in Bayless instead and maybe someone else (Rudy?). I would rather have Harris/Miller than Harris/Bayless. I know nada about contract and #’s but if it works we should go for Harris. And if we get Melo off to the East so much the better for us, its just 1 less team with 1 less all star in our division. Harris is a worthy pickup.

Sorry but our "chips" don't add up well to Harris' contract.
We have a lot of small contracts and a few excellent medium priced veterans. Not much fat on the roster, except for Rudy the fat-head.
Andre Miller makes 7.3 million next season.
Devin Harris makes about 9 million. Throw in Rudy, Bayless, or Babbitt and it works.

As I said yesterday, it works with just Miller alone (125% exception). But throw in Rudy if it helps get the deal.

Seems like a perfect solution deal to me.
The Nets are determined to get back a point guard to replace Harris. Charlotte doesn’t want to give up D.J. Augustin(notes) to the Nets, so New Jersey has begun exploring how to expand the trade to include more teams and more players in hopes of landing itself a point guard.-Yahoo

I'd even be OK with including both Miller and Bayless in a deal.
One could go to Charlotte and one to NJ, or send Bayless to Denver. Cho needs to get into this deal somehow and get creative. NJ is willing to move Harris to get Melo. That opportunity doesn’t happen every day. We’ve got PGs, expiring contracts, and young players (but not Batum for Harris or Billups). It’s possible that Denver might want to start rebuilding if they trade Melo, and be willing to move Billups – so I’d be exploring that too.

I guess it just comes down to my being different than people who consider players ECs or "chips"
I think the value of the contract and the quality of fit should be the two determiners and I didn’t want to consider Dre’s contract for trade as we’ve barely given him a shot. My bad.
We gave him a shot and he did fine. (I love the guy)
That doesn’t mean you don’t look for opportunities to upgrade the roster whenever you can.
Anytime you can trade one player straight up for a better player you do it. I don’t think Harris is better offensively, but overall I think he’s pretty clearly the better player.

Intangibles are important.
I know very little about Harris. I think Dre’s shot at putting the team over the hump was that brief stretch two4larue always references where Roy and Dre were clicking and healthy. I think he deserves more time. I really think the fanbase in Portland and Paul Allen’s active interest could make this team a desirable place for FAs someday. As it is I gather it’s considered the small market boondocks. Dunno, I just like being loyal to players who are still performing admirably. I realize it’s an outdated notion and has no place in the business but what are Bedgers but elaboraters?
How about this
a simpler version which accomplishes most of the same issues I believe:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3a3zevz
favors & murphy to the nuggets (plus the draft picks)
melo & ’dre to the nets
harris to the PTB
The Nuggies want a SF in the package, thus the moving around of AK and Diaw

NJ is willing to give up Harris to get Melo. Cho needs to find a way to get into this deal and get Harris
or somehow Billups if Denver wants to start rebuilding. We’ve got expiring contracts, point guards (which NJ or Charlotte might want, or Denver might want Bayless), and some young players (but not Batum to get Harris or Billups). It’s time for Cho to earn his money and get creative and pick up one of the missing pieces (Harris or Chauncey) he says we need.

Totally agree
this Melo thing could be a huge opportunity for Portland, either in landing Billups or Harris. I’ve read that Billups wants to retire in Denver, but I think the opportunity of getting another ring would outweigh finishing his career in his home state. Cho needs to get involved here.

I don't want Cho to "just make a deal" for the sake of making a deal...
…but I believe moving the pieces mentioned above to bring in Harris or Billups qualifies as “a way to improve out team” – to use a couple of Cho’s mantras. If he does not aggressively pursue these opportunities my fear will be that Paul Allen hired an very analytical dude who won’t pull the trigger…paralysis by analysis.
It sounds like Melo may no longer be willing to go to NJ, which means Harris would be off the market.

Always a few flys in these ointments.
The problem here is that Miller is only a filler at point guard for a few years, and Bayless has no track record of starting. NJ would have to buy the very scenerio that some don’t like, which is that Miller can start for a year or two, and then Bayless will replace him. And if we/you don’t think that will happen, it’s unlikely NJ will see it happening either.
Devin Harris is the best PG we can get at present time
that won’t require Nic, LMA, Oden, or Roy as part of the deal. This is a very tantalizing scenario and I’m curious to see how it plays out. A real test for Mr. Cho. I wonder how hard we are trying to become a part of this..

Kirk Hinrich is great, but he's no Devin Harris.

If Kirk Hinrich is great, yet no Devin Harris...
…then what does that make Devin Harris? A Hall of Famer?
i think if the Blazers wanted Hinrich
they would have gotten him by now.

What if we Replace the Bobcats
So pretend Melo will sign an extension with Nets, but Charlotte still wont add DJ,
This might work:
New Jersey Gets: Carmelo Anthony
Blazers Gets: Andre Miller, Devin Harris
Denver Gets: Derrick Favors, Andre Kirilenko
Utah Gets: Rudy Fernandez and 1 or 2 of who they may want between: Babbit, Williams, Cunningham, Pendergraph, Johnson, Przybilla
Picks can get thrown around however works, the one team I think might not want to do this is Utah, as Rudy and our scraps aren’t as good as Diaw which was just replacing Kirilenko
dont we already have Andre Miller?

they're in a tough spot
They gotta get something and not let him just walk away a free agent, but Carmelo’s destinations aren’t gonna pony up the trade materials. Besides, if Billups and Carmelo bolt they’ll be rebuilding and cost-cutting and if you throw in some sweet draft picks they might bite.
We need to do something.... thats a fact.
Not impressed with Cho’s lethargic computing of players… I know he doesn’t talk about the team like KP did, BUT WHAT IS GOING ON CHO?? UPDATE??? If rudy comes to camp and we dont end up with a better Point guard it doesn’t look good….

Can someone please learn me up some?
I don’t know much about many players that are not on the Blazers. I looked up Devin Harris’ stats. They seem good. How does he get his scoring done? Does he have room for that on our team? There were tons of times last year when Andre’s driving ability saved us. Does Devin get to the line?
Here's a brief summary, I'm sure someone else knows more than me.
Devin Harris is a very quick, athletic, scoring oriented PG. He has a great first step and draws fouls at a higher rate than any other starting PG in the league (at least he did in 2009) If you like Andre’s ability to drive then you will love Devin Harris. His first step is pretty much unstoppable when he’s healthy.
With the Mavs, Harris was a great role player and had a rep as an elite defender. I believe at one point Hollinger called him the best defensive PG in the league. (This was before Rondo took off) Once he was traded to the Nets he had an amazing year on offense but his defense suffered. He made the all-star team, had a player efficiency around Roy’s level and was probably one of the 4 or 5 best point guards in the league. The next season he was injured, but still had a decent season, just not by his standards.
The bad news is he doesn’t have the same level of post up game as Andre and he’s less of a distributor. He’s a much better 3 point shooter, but still not excellent. Hopefully his defense will come back to full strength if he plays on a team where his isn’t the focus of the offense.
Oh, and he has a great attitude and would fit the team’s culture and chemistry like a glove.

Well
Devin’s assist rate was higher last year than Millers. Andre was down from his career average though. Another very good defender sounds good. I won’t worry if we go into the season with Andre but Devin seems like he’d be a good pick up.
