Puzzling Junk - 9.21-22.2010
So, I've been playing Maniac Mansion for the first time in awhile, and I can't quite remember everything.
Like, I can never remember how to keep the car from blowing up (oh yah, it's the trunk) or where to find stupid's plans. But I remember how to break the chandelier and how to lower the pool to get the radio and the glowing key. But I can't remember what to give to the plant to make it grow so I can get on the roof where the telescope is so I can read the combo to the inner lab door. And I don't wanna just google the walkthru because not only do cheaters never prosper, but they are the first people killed in horror movies. That's a fact. Period. End of story.
The daily Junk Drawer (JD) fanpost is the place for true off-topic conversation and people's random thoughts. Its purpose was simple from its infancy; a place where people could come and chat about all of the "whatevers" that didn't fit with the rest of the site and even be loose in terms of byplay and humor. The goal was to foster community...to let people who wanted to get to know each other outside of what they could discern from the strictly basketball posts. We've had happy JD's, sad ones, drawers that looked like a sharing circle, drawers that resembled open mic night at the comedy club... and people have really become a family here.
So if you have a one-off thought, consider posting it here. Everyone else is doing the same, so you will find the JD an eclectic place where you might read something interesting, pointless, profound, or just funny within a few moments. The rules about importance and significance of the topic are suspended in each JD but keep some of these basic rules in mind:
As you try and navigate through the junk drawer, remember that you can use 'Z' on your keypad to mark a comment as read and move to the next one and hitting shift-A will mark all comments as read.
- Be mindful that every image posted slows down the JD, so use discretion in how many you post (you can also link to images you want to share so that they will not overwhelm the JD). When you do post images, put something in the subject line of the comment so that the image can be minimized.
- Ad hominem attacks and swearing will never be tolerated
- Remember everything you write is visible publicly
- Don't use the JD call out or talk about users from other BEdge threads.
So, anything puzzling you?

although this is the technical correct answer to the riddle
I still like FFA’s answer better.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
Now when I ask people this riddle.
I’ll see if anyone else gives the answer you gave and, if they do, i’ll know they are thinking at a higher level. Kind of like the picture of the snake eating the elephant in the Little Prince.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
I looooooooooooved my NES copy of Maniac Mansion as a kid
Been so long since I played it… what ya playing it on, Idol?
#52
They converted it nearly exactly to a PC.
I wish I had a working NES to play it on, but my last one broke.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
I am starting to repiece it all back together.
Trying to remember how to get the coolest endings.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
And didja ever play DAY OF THE TENTACLE?
Was fun, but not as good as Maniac Mansion.
On a computer in DOTT, you could play the entire original Maniac Mansion game.
#52
haha yeah that rocked
just because of the embedded game within a game. It definitely wasn’t as intense as trying to figure out Maniac Mansion the first time.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
I don't think I have.
That would probably be better. This little PC version feels pretty close but I get the feeling something is different.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
I remember trying it on an emulator
Worked great, was the same game I remembered.
ONLY PROBLEM— after all these years and being used to using a mouse, NOT being able to use the mouse to move the cursor and having to use the arrows was annoying. If you got a version that allows ya to use your mouse, it might be easier.
#52
Yeah the PC version does have a decent mouse interface.
Not wonderful but I could see that being really annoying.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
Did you have a favorite team going?
I always like having that nerdy kid Bernard to fix everything, but I think I remember that he makes it too easy.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
Hmmmm lemme think
You always had to have Dave, right? I know I’d go and get him captured on purpose and set him at the secret brick in the jail to let my other guys out when they got caught…
I did like Bernard for his specialties, but he’d get scared of the Tentacles, which was cute.
Dang, I can’t remember. There was a music guy, some girls… lemme look it up.
#52
I won the game so many times and saw all the different endings, I remember
No one I knew back then thought the game was as cool as I did.
#52
Me neither!
Everyone else was like all about some dumb game but that was the game. There’s two music kids, a writer girl, a camera guy, and some surfer or something. Plus Dave, who I would also always set up at the brick.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
I just read up on it on Wiki
I guess I had an early copy of the game for the NES, because I remember being able to microwave the hamster.
#52
haha I had that version too.
And I found many ways to kill that hamster and ways to get killed. This PC game doesn’t seem to get you killed as often as it should.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
Yeah, those were good ones.
I think my favorite was Bernard and the music chick or camera guy. I am working on it with Bernard and the writing chick now which is cool.

Tin's insurance story of the day
I’m on a claims inspection today, with a guy claiming that his chimney flashing got a crack in it, and somehow got water all over the northern side of his house, but magically skipping the main floor. As I’m looking at the wet carpet, there’s a closet door with bright light coming from underneath it, making me think it’s a stairway from the basement to the outside. I open the door, and the guy is like “Um, that’s where we grow our babies, it’s just a little greenhouse.” Inside the closet was a tray of little plants in individual pots, with a light hanging about a foot over them. Later, as we’re walking around the exterior of the house, he mentions that sometimes water drips on him when he’s working in the garage. I’m like “Ok, let’s check it out and I’ll get some pictures.” He’s like “Oh…actually, we can’t go into the garage..cuz um, the lights are out, and you can’t take pictures in there. Well, maybe I could take the camera in and took the pictures for you.” At this point I’ve got the general idea. As we walk behind the garage, there’s a large air vent blowing the strongest weed smell of all time right in my face. Between that and the 5 pitbulls on the property, safe to say this gentleman won’t be an insured of ours for very long.
Note to everyone: If you’re growing pot in your garage, don’t invite the insurance guy over.

I keep losing time tonight. I was on the phone to HP for forty minutes, and then they hung up on me.
HP hung up on me tonight, after I spent forty minutes on the phone with them. I can’t call them back either because I don’t have a confirmation number for the
transaction they were working on for me, an extension of our hardware coverage plan. So somewhere in the world, there is a nameless tech with our credit card number and I have no proof of it, and can only call tech support again which will likely end in another forty minutes of being on hold only to be hung up on. HP SUCKS!!!

I’m dangerously, dangerously, dangerously in love
I love her more than I love myself and still that ain’t enough
If this a dream I don’t wanna wake up
We go together like the tub and the shower head above
Not even thousands and thousands of miles
Could amount to my love; I’d have countless sky miles
I’d climb up a mountain, climb right back down
I’d run across the world and jog back around
A noun and a verb is just a sound
And a sound is not profound enough
To show my urge for her smile
I’d shout on a curb with a loudspeaker
Until the entire town knew how I felt
And I’m out.

another funny story from today. brian grant told us about the day he was diagnosed with parkinsons. he went to the doctor with his wife and stepped on the scale(he told us how much he hated scales nowadays) and it said he was at 284. then he did the mobility tests and the doctor went away and then came back later and sat him down and told him that he had parkinsons and that there was nothing he could do. brian said he looked out the window for a good 5 minutes and didnt say nothing but his wife was cryin. the doc came over and put his hand on brian’s shoulder and said “i’m sorry brian, this must be real hard for you.” brian turned to the doc and said…. “man, that scale is wrong! no way i was 284. I weighed myself at home and i was at 274.”
it was funny when he told it but its prob not that funny being said over the internetz in text.

Hello everyone.
Just got back from seeing “The Town.” I liked it, but to be honest was expecting a little more. Affleck has done a nice job of re-inventing himself though. He’s a better storyteller than an actor.
"Conan, what is best in life?"
"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women."
I haven't seen it yet, but some early reviews had me pretty amped up
Then I looked at this. It still looks pretty good, but not amazing. I’ve taken to using yahoo’s page for their review summaries. It’s nice and fast.

Oh, d_t_m, I'm the guy who prefers Parks and Rec to Community.
On that note, I hope that The Big Bang Theory massacres Community in the ratings this season.
I prefer Parks and Rec, too
I was trying to remember who liked Community better. I don’t know The Big Bang Theory, though.

I casually enjoy The Big Bang Theory, although am surprised about how dominate it was in ...
the ratings to finish off last season — for it even topped Two and a Half Men as the most highly watched sitcom — thus, with its move to Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m., Community looks to take a hit in audience share.
and me. Parks and Rec took a really long time to get going and it’s pretty good now but Community still trumps it

yeah, this is a nice week for TV. In addition to the shows you listed I also had Chuck and HIMYM come back (and House but we’re half a season behind) and Fringe comes back this week too.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
How is House these days?
I loved the first season (my classmates and I would watch with laptops and textbooks at the ready), but I stopped watching midway through the second, it had tanked so badly.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
It’s a lot of the same thing over and over but I really love Hugh Laurie and think he does a pretty good job of carrying the show on his own. It’s definitely weaker now than it was but it was one of the first shows my girlfriend and I started watching together so we like to keep watching it.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
I love both those shows.
And I prefer Community to Parks and Rec, though I like both
God is not a zachhole
-Mrs.Elgin
I am hoping that both continue to do well. Moving BBT to Thursday was a bad move in my opinion. That 2 hour block has been dominated by NBC for quite some time.

Nah, it was a fine move by CBS to move The Big Bang Theory to the coveted Thursday night ...
spot — since it’ll give the network a chance to maybe pull in more ad revenue by spreading apart its top two comedies: http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/03/18/which-broadcast-shows-are-the-biggest-ad-revenue-earners/45324 — while Community is now in a tough spot.
This also gives CBS two of its new fall shows, Mike & Molly and $#*! My Dad Says, lead-ins with high ratings.
we shall see. I think it’s a gamble by them and it may pay off, but it may come back to bite them in the arse. Those two, along with How I Met Your Mother, are in my current favorite sitcoms so I hope that they can both survive in that time slot. I know I’ll be DVRing one while watching the other, though and I’m not sure which one will take precedence.

It's good. Worth seeing. Waiting for video might not be a bad idea though.
I just hope Affleck stays behind the camera. He is clearly a very good filmmaker, but to be honest, his character was probably the weakest part of the movie.

I agree. That movie has solid direction.
It works better as an action movie than as a drama too. Some inventive heist scenes that you haven’t seen before in too many other movies. But the drama plot has some slight holes, and he tackled some of those issues already better in Gone Baby Gone. Someone told me the film looks like it was made before GBG leading up to it in the development of the director, and not after it. Good thought.

Denver wants:
1. A young promising player, preferably a big man.
2. At least one if not two first rounders.
3. Cap relief.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Carmelo Anthony wouldn't re-sign with OKC, nor would Denver trade him within the division.
For Anthony, my money is on him going to Chicago for Luol Deng, James Johnson, Taj Gibson, a 2011 first-round draft pick, and a future first-round draft pick (via Charlotte).
I feel sorry for George Karl if that happens

Nate is internationally renowned for his defense, come on.
How dare you question his defensive expertise! Thibideau would love to get lessons in coaching D from Team USA’s defensive coach!
Regardless, Chicago would become a force to be reckoned with if it obtains ...
Carmelo Anthony — while holding onto Joakim Noah — and that’s worth the cost.
color me unimpressed with their summer
everyone over on blogabull and realgm keeps harping on and on about how they’re now contenders.
but all they’ve done is form a lesser jazz team
rose vs williams
brewer vs brewer
deng vs kirilenko
boozer vs boozer
noah vs okur
jazz had millsap, korver, matthews, and miles coming off the bench
bulls will have watson, gibson, korver, and now SCALABRINE off the bench.
PHILLY!
But of all the teams with cap space that weren't the Heat
They did far and away the best at using it wisely to fill out their roster. All the more so when you consider the offer sheet they gave JJ Redick. So while they’re not perfect, color me impressed with their offseason
z
i think ny did pretty better actually
adding felton, amare, randolph turiaf, and azibuike for just a stat padding david lee. that’s pretty good.
PHILLY!
So they moved from really awful to merely awful
The Knicks are screwed for a while thanks to inept management.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
maybe i'm overrating d'antoni and some of their players
but i fully expect them to be in the playoffs this year.
and they’ll still have some capspace to play with next summer. walsh did pretty well, but isiah’s stink is hard to clear out.
PHILLY!
So they could be eighth in the East
And got swept by Miami, better but the East is weak beyond the top 4.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
About all that's left from Isiah Thomas' reign is Eddy Curry; ...
yet, to be fair, that’s one helluva “stink” still slowly smoldering over the franchise.
And no first rounders til 2017
Except for the Rockets pick this year.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
That's not entirely true.
New York has a first-rounder in 2011 — although it’s a pick swap with Houston that’s top-one protected — and from 2012 through 2015 it owes Houston a single future first-round draft pick or, if the team has a top-five pick all of those years, it owes a 2015 second-round draft pick and 2016 second-round draft pick instead.
2017, however, is the earliest year an unprotected first-round draft pick can be conveyed in a trade.
I'm not sure why the Chicago Bulls went after J.J. Redick, since Kyle ...
Korver was already signed to be the backup 2 on that team. Keith Bogans is also a very nice, cost-effective signing as a fifth wing/third-string 3/2 in a 11th/12th man role.
And without Sloan
Who even though he’s never won the big one is a very good coach.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Ronnie Brewer must be used as a backup 3, for there's no way he can be ...

i believe they plan on starting RB at the 2 unless there is a trade.
i kinda fudged the lineups a bit to help my point.
PHILLY!
I, too, have read that's the plan, but starting Ronnie Brewer at the ...
2 will backfire on Chicago offensively.
Denver could get a bit more out of Chicago, but wouldn't be able to pry away Joakim ...
Noah in this case. So, along with a 2011 first-round draft pick and a future first-round draft pick that’s via Charlotte — which is protected from 2012 through 2015 and unprotected in 2016 — the Bulls could also include in its own future first-round draft pick with protection on it (e.g., top-five protected from 2013 through 2016 and unprotected in 2017). All in all, that’d be three future first-round draft picks going Denver’s way.
In any case
Denver would be the clear fourth place finisher in the NW, unless Utah implodes or something.
Ahead of Minny but no one else.

Kenyon Martin
Luol Deng
Arron Afflalo
Chauncey Billups
Chris Andersen
Taj Gibson
Al Harrington

Anthony Carter
Which is probably good for fourth

I disagree with that, for the Tea Party is an innately ultraconservative coalition.
The reason for my utter disdain with the Tea Party is due to its backward thinking, retrogressive views on cultural issues, which is why U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) kicked those hidebound fools to the wayside like a disgusting cigarette habit. As a hardcore libertarian, I scoff at a reactionary movement that’s polluted with far-right wingnuts such as Sarah Palin, Sharron Angle, Nikki Haley (née Randhawa), and Christine O’Donnell in its ranks.

First, I'm not a fan of the tea party either...
but the tenets they are founded on are picked piece meal from “fiscal conservative policies” and pro-religion dogma of the right… however I’m certain that exceptions exist in this as in all things. Also, while they have hard line stances on certain issues, those issues and stances vary from candidate to candidate with the common denominator being draping themselves in the flag/Bible… So without any concrete positions as a movement (yet) there will undoubtedly be people who embrace it for the votes and move to the middle once elected…

Oh, and with regards to politicos like Sarah Palin and Christine O’Donnell, they’ve got a long history of this line of thinking — especially O’Donnell — thus, it’s not as if they’re pandering for votes, but rather them lucking into a matter of circumstance that they’re platform has garnered mass publicity.

From the "it happens to everyone" department
I’m yelling at my ISP about problems with my Internet connection. Grrrr.
I've noticed a trend from calling Comcast
When I’m on the phone with someone local, they never admit it’s a problem on their end. They’re always convinced it’s my problem. When I talk to someone in India, they’re usually pretty cool about telling me they suspect there’s an outage in my area.
On a related note, Comcast just changed, so that when I call to complain about yet another outage, they reset my modem before I even get to talk to a person. I get why they would do that, but it’s a frustrating waste of my time because I’ve probably already done it twice before I even call.

Kid Colter is the story of a boy born in the city that is kidnapped by mountain men and left in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. The crazed mountain men left him for dead, but the boy proves to have an uncanny ability to fend for himself. In the final sequel, the Robinsons celebrate the arrival of spring after surviving a fierce winter. Soon their happiness is quickly dashed as a Forest Service ranger informs them they must prove their mountain home is located on a legitimate mining claim or they must move out. Also, Pat finds out that her mother is ill and decides to go back to Los Angeles. Will the Robinsons lose their mountain home? Will Pat come back from the city?

This is a holiday commemorating weird marital problems which ended up with the man stuck on the sun and his wife stuck on the moon, so if your family is far away and you miss them, this day is for you!

Over the last 72 hours, sources said, Anthony’s representatives — headed by agent Leon Rose — have been ramping up the pressure on the Nuggets to complete a deal with the Knicks or the Bulls before training camps open leaguewide next week. Sources say that Denver officials, however, are not inclined to rush into anything.

Dwayne Mitchell (born August 24, 1982) is a 6’5" guard or shooting guard formerly from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dwayne played with the Iowa Energy in the NBADL until August 1, 2008 when he was signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Lakers, who on October 8, 2008 waived Mitchell, who later signed with the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League.

Exam is such a simpler word with a smaller space of possible states.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
I often use “exam” to avoid “tests.” I’ve been saying the latter out loud for the last two minutes. Just can’t get it right.
I have struggled with 'aluminum' in my life.

haha I’ve heard the motorcycle thing before. I catch myself saying “innernet” a lot instead of “inTERnet” and I get mad at myself. but I think I’ve only heard one person say “inTERnet” before so I guess that one must be super common.

Yeah, I can totally see that.
Especially because that’s just the kind of thing somewhat might say at the start of a JD when no one is talking.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
Draw a single closed loop going through all the grid nodes. Then break this loop into 16 pieces. In each row and column of the nodes must be exactly two breaking points (some are shown in table as "X"s). Middle points of all 16 pieces are shown as dots.

I don't know, Yankee fans can be REALLY bad.
Some Laker fans know stuff too. I know as I was one for the first 20 years of my life. Of course, that has a lot to do with why I despise them so much now as they have only gotten worse as a group over the past decade.

Will not only win you the assistant job, but you could segue this into a fullblown sidekick status in no time. Yes, it will be hard work getting there, but I think the payoff speaks for itself.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?

by DrivetheLane on Sep 22, 2010 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm not sure on the specifics, but this is what I see.
I enter the scene. My theme music plays. It’s funky, cool ish groove for the master as I recklessly stroll into danger. Despite effortlessly gliding through the perils, I end up being capture.
Although I’m way too cool to care. Plus I know if I wait just a minute long— BAM SMASH
Suddenly POW you’re on the scene like a car through a wall! The music shifts to something jivey and bouncing and frantic as you start nard punching all the bad guys. While they are distracted, I slip free and join you. I say something sorta cool and clever like " wonderful timing, as always, dtl" (i think you need a better sidekick name) to which you reply (probably as we do one of those cool simultaneously dunking/jumping things as we hit the assailant prone to attack the other from behind) “assisting you in a full time job, idol” (i think we can come up with something better and more catchy when the writer are off-strike) and this would be about the time that I would see the main bad guy slipping away and you’d say go get im and got your back and then I’d go after im or something.

i can’t ever remember quotes very well
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"

I've always been a quoter.
Love finding the perfect quote to start a paper with.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
i liked ending papers with quotes if possible
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
by DrivetheLane on Sep 22, 2010 6:25 PM PDT up reply actions
That's interesting.
I think I like that idea even better than mine.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
it’s like they said in american history x: someone’s already said it better, just use their words.
just gotta lead up to it correctly and have one salient point to bring the quote home, but the ending quote is the key i think.

My old approach.
Was to find the epic words to set the stage and then show how everything I am putting forth deduces this same truth. But I like your way.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
that’s not a bad way to go, but if you start out with a killer quote or passage, everything you say after it will probably pale in comparison. i’d rather say, “look, here’s all my ideas.” and then at the end go, “oh what’s this? this super smart person agrees with me. see?”
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"

It's a brilliant twist!
I think my way was like a math proof where you put your answer on top and then prove it. Your approach is much more like a porn where you build up to the money shot.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
yup. i always wrote so the ending was best. a professor once told me i should take my conclusions and make them my intros, but i didn’t like doing that.
i think endings are the most important thing because it’s the last thing a person is gonna remember about what they’ve read/watched. so end well.

It's a trickiness.
Since the beginning is what draws people in to read further but the end is what they are left with if they make it there.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
for sure.
it’s a balancing act, no doubt.

It's been a while since I wrote a paper
But I used to like quoting myself.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.
There's only one time I've ever quoted myself.
And that’s this quote:
Age is a state of time not of mind. -dj
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
I had a professor who did mostly Powerpoint lectures, and he used a lot of quotes
One day there was a quote up from one of his articles. I think most of the class missed it, since he didn’t draw attention to it. I thought it was funny, so with every new paper I wrote for him, I slipped in a quote from one of my previous papers.
Still on the Rex bandwagon.

but some of the stuff he says just sounds whiny because it’s coming from him.
“oh woe is me, i’m soooo rich. i gotta get out of here!” i get the whole quiet desperation thing and i don’t disagree, necessarily. but when it’s coming from a wealthy guy, it doesn’t really ring as true.

also, it’s interesting to never have found him desperate. he did write “most men live lives of quiet desperation”. or something to that effect. so if he isn’t desperate minded he’s just saying everyone else is and he’s gonna show them how not to be?

i am taking that as a compliment. i think i’m, what….about 5 years younger than you? i’m 28 and you’re 33 right?
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
by DrivetheLane on Sep 22, 2010 7:02 PM PDT up reply actions
That is right!
And it is mostly a compliment. I generally feel older than everyone I talk to regardless of age. It’s only mostly a compliment because of that Thoreau quote up above and I don’t know if getting old quickly will always suit you. I’m personally glad to feel younger now than I did when I was 15-25.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
i’m interested to see if my attitude/feeling changes in the next 10 years or so. i’m not sure if it will or not. but i’ve always felt older than those in my general age range. in college most of my friends were older. i’ve always gotten along better with older people. i’ve felt like i was in my 30s for the last few years. it’s odd. maybe i’m an old soul or something. whatever the heck that means.

This is exactly how I always felt!
And I mean always, from like my earliest memories. It wasn’t until I was 30 or so that I started to feel younger and that’s really increased over the last six months, which is odd, as I would have figured that becoming a widower would have made me feel older.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
i would have thought the same thing.
but perhaps losing her and then grieving allowed you to move on to another part of life? not sure.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
by DrivetheLane on Sep 22, 2010 7:34 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes, this is kind of what I figured too.
I think feeling like an old soul when I was young made me feel like I was never really a kid. Somewhere along the way with this phase of my journey, I think I’ve gotten to understand the simpleness and openness of how a child feels about the world.. how every moment means more because it is fresh and one is more sensitive to the effects it has on you. This is definitely a part of it.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
kids to seem to see the world pretty openly i suppose. i don’t remember feeling that way as a kid. i was mostly bored. i think i have a lot of “kid” in me still. it just doesn’t come out very much.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
by DrivetheLane on Sep 22, 2010 7:44 PM PDT up reply actions
Exactly!!
This is exactly the way I felt. I never seemed like I had that openness of a child.. I felt born jaded in ways. Yet, I felt the capacity for that was still inside of me. For me, part of releasing it was getting more active and doing more physical activities. The other part is whatever happened to me lifewise, emotionally, etc. over the past year or so.
Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
speaking of jaded, this is probably more than i should say but….
i think i was in 7th grade or so the first time i said, “it’s not like i’ve got much to live for anyway.”
that wasn’t a good morning.
the childlikeness for me comes out when i don’t expect it most of the time. usually when i’m just having a good day in general.

It is based on a quote by Andrew Young
That I read at this small memorial to him in Atlanta.

Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?
That's exactly why I think of my reaction to him as ad hom

That's the true definition of ad hom as a logical fallacy too!
