If Deron Williams asks for a trade can we possibly get him?
What would we be willing to give up?

Portland is no Miami
We won’t have massive cap room with this roster. We’re not a primo destination for self-absorbed play boys. And we don’t have Dwayne Wade to recruit his fellow Olympic buddies (our guys opt not to play with the Olympic squad).

He means no.
When was the last time a player demanded a trade, then got traded to a division rival? Free agents being unpredictable is part of the league, but am NBA front office is quite predictable, and has a vested financial interest in not making it’s division rivals stronger.

Yea, sure, there's a *chance*
Larry: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me… ending up together?
Deron: Well, Lloyd… err, Larry, that’s difficult to say. I mean, we don’t really…
Larry: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, MaryDeron. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Deron: Not good.
Larry: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Deron: I’d say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Larry: So you’re telling me there’s a chance… YEAH!

IN a perfect world, i'd love Deron Williams on the blazers
But it’s so incredibly unlikely. I doubt the Jazz would settle for anything less than Roy.
I would trade Roy for him or CP3 in a heartbeat.

Roy doesn't deserve that!!!
Few people deserve to be sent to that place. What did he do for that kind of treatment? Roy is a good guy. I would cry tears for him if he had to set camp in Utah.
Now Rudy… I’d trade him to Utah.
If what I just commented turns out to be wrong, please delete from all memory.
Utah is pretty nice.
But I like the great outdoors.
In Bayless I trust.

While I prefer the Northwest, unless you judge a place by the bars and strip clubs, Utah is a great place to live. I spent 4 years there, skiing 20 times each winter. There are a lot worse places.

lol
Good point!
It would simply suck to be a basketball player in the NBA.
Think of all the sports you couldn’t do! Of course, I’d probably go on hiatus for superstar money, but I would feel wrong about it.
In Bayless I trust.

I suppose if I had been a wealthy single African-American NBA player....
My experience in Utah may have been different… and we all know these NBA players never do anything prohibited by their contracts. Isn’t that right, Monta?
While Utah may not have the hippest nightlife for an NBA player, the comment I responded to seemed to be more of a general statement and personal bias against the state. Your point, however, is certainly valid.

I'd rather have a strip club than a ski slope anyway
Disclaimer: everything I know about basketball I learned on Blazersedge.
Although those guys could just hire a team of private strippers in their house I guess

i woud trade
Roy for Williams as sad it would be….seriously like full blown tears sad, but not for small, jelly knees demand-a-trade CP3
Oct. 26th
Williams has been THE PG I have long thought the best fit here
Miller is a nice stop gap, CP3 and Parker are stars. But I think Williams game compliments Roys perfectly.
IMO, if Williams wants out, you offer everything except for Roy, and possibly Oden if healthy.
Aldridge and Batum would both be fair game in such a proposal IMO.

Explain this?
Williams is a max money guy; Utah will have to sign him for the max. How can another team make a more toxic offer?
"...it was like he brought his own personal cross-wind to the arena." - Dave
The how is beside the point
He plays for the jazz and we want him. It’s our front office’s tool of choice.
Also it would be really, really funny.
Why would the Utah Jazz trade Deron Williams?
Even if Williams demands a trade, he’s under contract through the 2011-2012 season — as is Chris Paul — so the Jazz could just tell him that it’s going forward with him through at least this season. Unlike Denver with Carmelo Anthony, the Jazz can look into its future with or without Williams during the summer of 2011 — such as whether or not a trade is in order — and hold off until then.
Also, the likelihood of the Jazz trading Williams within the division is slim to none.
so what you're saying is
bayless and rudy for williams…

Not to mention, Utah has commitment and stability in spades.
They salvaged what could have been a disastrous offseason, and AK’s contract is expiring.
Basically what I’m saying is compared to Nawlins, Utah has major prospects.
You can measure skill and talent with your eyes, but productivity is shown through statistics.
Do the Trade
Unfortunately 0% likely hood of happening in real life
"Knowledge will get you from A to B. Creativity will get you anywhere." Einstein
I think we have a better shot of landing CP3, Dwight Howard, Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Kobe, Rondo, or most other superstars
than landing Williams, or any other star within the division. If we had capsace that might be a different story, but we don’t.
"Conan, what is best in life?"
"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women."
Deron
is the best PG in the game.
If you had both Roy and Williams, even the most loyal of Roy fans would have to concede that Roy was the more expendable of the two, IMO.
Of course, Portland’s chance at Williams was one and done.
Let's see...
We traded the pick Utah used to get him for the picks we used to get Martell Webster and Jarret Jack. Then we traded those players for Jerryd Bayless and Luke Babbitt.
How about if we offer Bayless and Babbitt for him?
That's stupid; then we'd just be breaking even.
A good GM would find a way to come out ahead.

I would get Williams in a heartbeat.
I would give up Oden and smaller pieces for him. If everyone was on fire over CP3, this is the better bet. He is less injury prone and can hang with more PG’s(less prone to being dominated by players like Billups).
We should be much more hot on this than CP3!
Blazer Pride.
Alllllllll Dayyyyy
I Wish i may i wish i might
Have this wish i wish tonight.
Unfortunately to make this great thing happen we’d have to play three on five for this season and half of next season as well.
Excellence is not an act , it's a habit.
Not likely to happen....
But I can only dream about something like:
Przybilla, Miller, Rudy + Future Pick/Cash Considerations (or both) for Deron Williams
Again, not likely to happen, but salaries match up on the ESPN Trade Machine
you would have to give up Roy
Or Oden and Batum at least… So really it’s like its not even a dream…. Its like if you were dreaming in your dream, and it was the best dream ever…. EVER!
Oct. 26th
hahaha that is true
I’m not sure I would want to give up Roy for D-Will though….
And I honestly think it would be more than just dreaming in a dream, there would have to be more layers in there somehow….
I know of one guaranteed way to get Williams.
First: invent a time machine. Second: draft Williams instead of Martell Webster. You’re welcome.
PatterNash couldn't decide between D-Will or CP3
so they punted, because they had drafted Telfair in the previous lottery
as Harry Glickman said about the LaRue Martin choice…if Portland had signed McAdoo (after his agents reneged on a handshake deal…) the Blazers would have won more games and not had shot at the #1 draft choice that became…Bill Walton
So, drafting Marty and Jarrett led to Greg Oden, in a round-about ‘way. This trip down memory lane wasn’t supposed to make you feel better…but it’s how one decision can hypothetically lead to an unexpected opportunity. Things always look clearer through the lens of 20/20 hindsight
When reached 40 years of following Portland basketball you have, be as passionate of the Trail Blazers you will not!
