New York Post: Adrian Wojnarowski Sued Over Book Deal
Bruce Golding of the New York Post writes...
--------------------
Penguin Group slapped best-selling author Adrian Wojnarowski with a suit seeking the return of a $140,000 advance for "Jimmy V: The Life and Death of Jim Valvano."
The Manhattan federal court filing says Wojnarowski -- the NBA columnist for Yahoo! Sports -- initially promised to produce a 130,000-word manuscript about the controversial coach by August 1, 2007.
After Wojnarowski repeatedly failed to deliver the book, his $400,000 deal was slashed to $325,000 and he got a "final delivery date" of June 1, the suit says.

Inside sources are telling Woj however, that deal involving himself, the Federal Court of Manhattan, and Isiah Thomas are underway.

It's a worldwide wes conspiracy
With KP as the second gunman
Sources: Woj REALLY is a hack!
I’ve been saying it for a year now, at least!
Not a real journalist.
You don’t use anonymous sources to troll for hits the way this guy does. He’s bad for the NBA, bad for journalism, and, apparently, bad for publishers.
I don’t normally gloat over someone’s failures, but in this case, I’ll make an exception. I had a long chat with Woj once via Twitter about his use of sources and he was absolutely condescending, didn’t really have any interest in what I had to say. And for the record, I have some journalism experience and a minor in it. I wasn’t just angrily spouting off at him. He just continued to tell me that I shouldn’t doubt that he’s “connected.” Apparently not connected enough to finish up the book deal.

Yes, even when I agree with Woj, I'm repulsed
It makes me rethink my position. The guy has built his career on unsourced hatchet jobs.
I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.
You too, Przy: everyone knows you're the heart & soul of the Blazers.
Its the NBA in early September...
…and Marbury isn’t doing Ustream anymore.
Got to have something to talk about.

Yeah, really.
It’s just making us, as a fanbase, look small-minded and bitter.
I will run naked through the streets if Oden wins the MVP this season...happily.
perhaps A-Woj is putting the finishing touches on his "other" project?

Wait, I know exactly how this happened:

Like the Whos down in Whoville they did it without boxes or ribbons or bows, they did without centers or posting down low. They won without All-Stars and Spaniards and Frenchmen. They won with old geezers and sub-par defense-men. They won playing rookies from deep off the benches. They won with their grit and their guts in the trenches. And some who observed them have been known to say that their hearts grew three sizes (at least!) on the way. One hopes with their poise and their passion now proven that once they are healthy their game will be groovin'. -- Dave

Hehe, yeah
Must finish Jimmy V book. Next the chapter on his legendary ESPY speech. Oh, a Blazers rumor could be important. Must write article. Now back to my work. Oh, a tweet. A blogger doesn’t like my article. Must write answer. Okay, back to that speech. Oh, an email from an anonymous source in the Denver front office. Could be important…

the editorial decisions of this site
have eroded significantly over the last 6 months. This is a front page fan shot while not one story about our national team has been.
meh
i’m happy with it.

Seriously?
1. it’s summertime.
2. A Woj has taken a series of cheap shots at the Blazers for seemingly personal reasons.
3. Not all Blazers fans are from the same country.
4. You can skip reading this story, but it is undeniable fodder for a large group of AWoj detractors happy to see him nose dive. Edit for yourself.
5. If your going to complain, target the oddly fetishistic photos of sneakers that are always being posted >.>
Really?
Are you the same ball of fun who keeps calling in on the game and complaining that the station is going the way of the jailblazers because they’ve talked about gambling and booze? Nate being an assistant coach is the only thing that connects team usa to the blazers. Every blazer playing on national teams has had stories about them on the front page. Sorry sir, i’ll get off your lawn.

our head coach is one of the assistants coaches on team usa
and the team is our national team. i consider both of those better connections to being a portland trailblazern fan than adrian wojnrowski’s book deal.
the links about blazer players in fiba is great. posting links to comments from bill simmons just to get a rise out of the user base of this site on the other hand, that i could do without.
as for the game, i consider all sports radio worthless drivel and i couldn’t care less what they talk about nor would I call in.
Whatever it takes to teach this guy some ethics...
In Bayless I trust.

Maybe the publisher just had second thoughts about squeezing "Adrian Wojnarowski" onto the book jacket
I was born in '52, and I believe in #52. Hang in there, GO.

Day-um, Woj was going to hatchet Jimmy V's corpse?!?
Everyone college basketball fan alive Jimmy V knew wasn’t running the cleanest program in the history of the NCAA. Valvano got a bone cancer diagnosis, and everyone stopped looking. He died horribly with a lot of class. He left behind a foundation that raises a lot of money for charity.
The only thing that gets accomplished by hacking at Jimmy V’s corpse is hurting some fundraising for cancer. If there was one sports writer who I would pick out to not to be able to figure that out, it’s Woj.
What’s next Woj? A book that says that French cycling official was right about Lance Armstrong?
Keep Portland Weird.
As stated above
Woj has absolutely ripped everyone in the Blazers organization, from KP to Larry to Paul and Vulcans, to Greg, to simply potential GM hires. Not just ripped—tore them apart with anonymous sources.
This is a fan shot—Ben didn’t write this.
And furthermore, I wouldn’t have heard about this today if not for BE. So, I appreciate it.
Correction
Maybe Ben did write it, but it’s a fan shot, not meant to be directly Blazers news. It’s an open forum.
Yeah, I've read some of Awoj's Blazers pieces
Not going to defend the quality of his writing or sources by any means, but anytime he writes one of those perceived Blazers ‘hit pieces’ (or Bill Simmons gives us a silly backhanded compliment) people on here get a brain hemorrhage.
Then some completely Blazers-unrelated drama that makes him look bad gets frontpage billing – Fanshot or whatever, it was posted by the co-editor. It just comes across as petty and provincial in a way that has nothing to do with sports (where being petty and provincial is part of the fun).
certainly nothing narcissistic about using serious words like "provincial"
Law of Logical Argument
Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.
provincial
seems a spot on description of this appearing on the front page to me. what word would you have preferred?
none
complaining about people enjoying Woj’s troubles is by far the more ridiculous position. Stooping to insults just makes a joke of the complainers.

i love how everyone had a similar reaction i had when i saw this
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
but really…it’s everyones dislike for this guy
can’t stand him one bit, he tries to create drama out of anything…
in a way i also feel like quick is starting to do that more, which is kinda annoying (ie. Andre Miller not passing fitness test, argument with Nate, his unhappiness)
Yahoo Sports doesn't have many interesting sports writers.
Jeff Passan is particularly egregious with his “10 degrees” shtick: 1) Stephen Strasburg is a lefty like… … … … 2) TOM GLAVINE who played for Atlanta like… … 3) HANK AARON who has almost as many home runs as… 4) Barry Bonds who will soon be in court, just like… 5) Roger Clemens, who is also a pitcher, similar to…. … (wait for it)… … … 6) Stephen Strasburg (FULL CIRCLE FTW LOL)
It’s like playing six degrees of Kevin Bacon with Snooki. duck duck duck duck duck goose. WOW. That’s a great column.
Wojnarowski just falls into the current trap where every sportswriter’s every column has to have huge implications or else it isn’t worth writing. The best way to make a good bad sports column is to start out with an observation, add a few details that cite anonymous sources, and then end it with a reiteration of the original thesis, now framed as either a melancholy or uplifting sentiment. Example:
They don’t play ball at old Yankees Stadium anymore.
Ever since new Yankees Stadium was built last year, the field that bore witness to legends like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Roger Maris, Reggie Jackson, and Derek Jeter, has seldom been used as a regulation field.
Even Yankees experts agree, the current silence at Yankees Stadium is unprecedented. “Heck, even during the strike in ’94 there were pigeons and homeless folk camping out in right field,” claimed one former Yankees employee with insider Yankees information.
No, they sure don’t play ball like they used to at the ballpark that they replaced with a newer one. :(
made em jump like Rod Strickland
