OKC Who? Naw its the Blazers baby!
I don't know if this has been posted yet, but if not, here's a heart warming story from bleacher report. I enjoy articles like this immensly because not only do they remind readers just how underrated we are, but they also put us ahead of OKC as the best future-of-the-league team on the rise. I for one am an OKC hater, not because they are bad, they are not, and I respect their organization and team for what they are, but because of all the sickening hype that team has gotten recently. The Thunder have yet to do anything more than the Blazers have, and they have NOT had to deal with any true adversity as yet. Maybe I'll have more respect for the team when they either win the Western Conference or win 50 games without Kevin Durant for a whole season - I can promise you, that won't happen! Anyway, here are a few of my favorite quotes from the article...
"It really is sad how little media attention Portland gets. Yes, it is a small market, but that doesn't mean they are bad. On the contrary, they are the complete opposite."
"And yes they will win rings, not because of the overall team, but just because Brandon Roy is just THAT good"

From Hoopsworld article (The Best Of the Rest)
Western Conference
1. Portland Trail Blazers: The Blazers have been on the brink of challenging for the Western Conference for a couple of seasons now, but injuries have derailed this team . Last year Greg Oden, Joel Przyzbilla, Nicolas Batum, Travis Outlaw, Brandon Roy and Rudy Fernandez all missed significant time due to injuries and the Blazers still managed to win at least 50 games for the second consecutive season. Considering all the depth this team has had over the past few seasons, it is hard to believe that this is deepest edition of the Portland Trail Blazers that we have seen since Clyde Drexler and Co. went to three consecutive Western Conference Finals in 1990-92. The addition of Wesley Matthews, a gritty perimeter defender and capable crunch-time shooter, along with the return of Oden and (eventually) Przyzbilla to a front line that includes Marcus Camby and LaMarcus Aldridge makes this Blazers team extremely tough. Shooting guard Brandon Roy is a perennial All-Star and a 20-5-5 guy with outstanding leadership skills and is as good in the clutch as any other player in the league. With a veteran point guard in Andre Miller and one of the best coaches in the business in Nate McMillan, health is the only thing that will keep the Blazers from competing for a Western Conference crown.

YES.
I completely agree. The constant love and attention the the Thunder are getting from the media is as gross as girls were in Kindergarten.
The offseason has been particularly annoying for it, but it went on most of last season too. I hated how many votes Scott Brooks got for coach of the year. His strategy consists of leaving Kevin Durant in for the entire game, surrounding him with any four marginally talented role players, praying he doesn’t get hurt, and letting things sort themselves out. For us the Blazers to win 50 games (the same number as OKC had and with a higher playoff seed) with the injuries we had took actual coaching ability on Nate’s part.
Our season series with OKC last year should really illustrate in the media’s minds how much further along the Blazers really are, particularly the last two meetings (what amounted to be two of the biggest wins of the season for us). We have shown that we can win close games in the closing minutes in a way that OKC has yet to really demonstrate, and that’s what the playoffs are all about.
In any case, it’s refreshing to see the Blazers getting some respect from someone who writes about the NBA for a living.
Not really
We don’t get enough respect, is what I mean. Okay, I agree with you on the Brooks and COY. And I agree, Blazers got 50 wins by WORKING HARD FOR IT!!! But get this, NBA.com gave OKC an A for offseason, and us a B…. huh? what? Do they get an A for having Durant “quietly” signing a contract? What, did a group of ninjas sneak in his house, and had him “quietly” sign some paper? Sorry for the rant, but seriously. I mean, what? For locking in their superstar without making noise gives them an A? Not gonna bother what ATL Hawks got for offseason report grade, but I’m sure they got an A— Johnson got max deal after all. Oh wait…
I'm down with the Kings getting some love
They’re building quite the team down there at the moment.
Yeah, they'll be good.
Evans, Casspi, Cousins and a bunch of young guys. Unless Evans or Cousins do something dumb.

lol bleacher reports allways favor portland..so do hoopsworld
perhaps because they got portland-fans. But yes, POR is the better team and a threat in the western conferrence
I really do like Durant.
I just like Greg better. It’s too bad that the press is trying to make us take sides on this. I would have loved to have either guy, but I unequivocally honked once.
Teams like OKC
are the reason Batum becomes more and more valuable.
Stick Batum on Durant and let OKC try to beat us with their role players. Not going to happen. I am not saying Batum is a better player then Durant, but as far as defenders go, I will take Batum over anyone else to guard Durant.

If we win a ring
it will have to be within the next few years, because the way Roy plays he won’t be in his prime for too long. He goes through a lot of wear and tear, which is no fault of his own but simply the result of his role on the team.
And Oden’s health might even play a bigger role in winning a championship than Roy. There are plenty of guards on championship caliber teams that can give Roy a run for his money, but Portland will have a distinct advantage over those same teams at center if Oden stays healthy and continues to show improvement on the court.
Ughhh...
Didn’t like it when you said Roy won’t last long(you didn’t say that literally, so don’t get mad at me). I REALLY hope Roy somehow finds a way to make his body somehow healthier, because you stated a sad truth: he faces wear and tear.
But kinda makes you wonder, how does Lebron James do it? He seems much more aggressive than Roy.
I’m not that religious, so can someone pray for us that Roy and Oden finds a way to stay healthy, or even really close to it?
LeBron James is just a physical freak.
Not every explosive player has their knees give out. Roy’s just had several unfortunate incidents that make it more likely in the future.

I will root against the Thunder.
As long as Clay Bennett is the owner. (What a scumbag!!!!)

Lol, you’re just like me: we hate OKC. HOWEVER…. however… my reason is like yours, but IDK if you have another reason, but I do. It’s Durant. Some of you may know that I am grouped with the few people who still believes in Oden. I don’t like OKC because: 1) people view them as better than us. 2) They seem like a rising team that might threaten us. 3) Injuries have prevented the chance to show who is better: Oden v. Durant. Fans are so demanding, they don’t know how to wait. “Patience is a virtue”
Here’s an old OregonLive article on Oden BEFORE the injury.

Like the bleacherreport venjance found, this, to me, was heart-warming. Also, a small part of that article showed why I enjoyed having Outlaw on this team.
The Thunder
Kevin Durant and The Thunder have stolen or wrestled the mantle of up and coming team of the future away from The Blazers.
And they are going to be very, very good.
But The Blazers and Blazers fans can’t worry too much about it. We need to focus on who and what we are about, not worry about how the rest of the Basketball world perceives The Thunder or Portland.
The best way to get the spotlight back? Earn it. If we beat The Thunder, then we will get the respect.
Maybe The Thunder because of the emergence of Durant are getting too much buzz in relationship to what they have accomplished. But until The Blazers do more than simply lose in the first round…The Blazers don’t deserve any more attention than we are getting.
As a Blazer fan I look forward to the challenge. I don’t worry about The Thunder getting too much respect or The Blazers not getting enough. Ultimately results will speak louder.
