Not much to say in this JD. Last night's JD lost a hundred or so comments after another late night junk session went too far. I think I blame Magnum, pg91, and X-Man.

Hopefully, we'll all get to laugh about this one day, and I won't be crying on the inside. Wish me luck (or, if you remember the difference, you can always say 'Merde'). If things go bad, FFA is the executor of my estate.

I think we have a Red Wings fan, who have a nice logo and history/traditions. Timmay and Jake might be secret Sharks fans.
Being a fan of a Canadian team might be considered odd if you never lived in one of those cities. They are pretty religious about their teams. Penguins have a nice young team and I always liked their colors, but they might be considered a bandwagon team at the moment. Same with the Washington Ovechkins.
Back when I lived in Connecticut, my people were New Jersey Devils fans, which was cool since it coincided with about their best time in team history, so I got to see them have a big playoff run including a great series against the Rangers. Haven’t really followed them closely ever since.
i have always been partial to the islanders for some reason, even though i never watch hockey
I hear they suck, but i kind of like the underdog role

anyone here with experience using portable apps?
for some reason I can get the portable version of Firefox working, but not Chrome. My guess is that Chrome is trying to call back to the mothership to check if it is the most updated version but isn’t able to and this is causing problems. Any known workarounds?
i only use them when they give me a laptop for work travel
that way I am able to use a browser that I don’t actively hate.

what the heck went on in yesterday’s junk. I checked yesterday afternoon, and there was about 700 comments.
Was there a fantasy football trivia tic-tac-toe contest?
Looked like 4-5 back-to-back-to-back(etc) trivia sessions.
And some scraps of things that were subsequently deleted.
no kidding.
when i went to bed last night, there was maybe 900 comments. looks like trivia. i’m sorry i missed a deleted type thread though.

So I’ll make the follow statement:
1. I’m okay and free for the foreseeable future; I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and concerns.
2. The legal matter i dealt with today was minor and should be dealt with for good with minimal hoop hopping soon.
3. Other (more serious) legal matters that were under investigation aren’t actively being pursued but will continue to be a problem moving forward. Things will turn out as they will on this.
4. Further discussion on these matters or speculation on these matters will not be entertained by me on BEdge.

ESPn on LaMichael James' arrest
Insider only: http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/blog?name=feldman_bruce&id=5448507
James spent three nights in jail surrounded by about 25 other men behind bars, he said.
“It’s the worst thing, by far, that I’ve ever had to go through in my life, including the deaths of people close to me,” he said. “I’m there thinking, ’I’m embarrassed for my family. I’m embarrassed for my team. I’m embarrassed for my school, where I’m from [in Texas], the community here.’ Everyone knows me here. I’m held to higher standards. I’m supposed to be bigger than that. It really hurt because I couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t defend myself. I just walked around and was viewed as a person that I’m really not.”
James said of his jail time that he “was on lockdown 24 hours a day,” but did say the other men behind bars were very respectful to him. Perhaps the toughest part of dealing with the ordeal was calling his family back in Texas.
“I had to call my sister from jail,” he said. “She really didn’t understand. I’m the only guy in my family and they are very, very protective of me. This was my ex-girlfriend. They knew her. They were talking to her the same day. They didn’t understand.”

Plus one of them is no longer on the team at all.

Nets/Raps in Europe now official
NBA commissioner David Stern says the league will play two regular-season games in London next season.
The Toronto Raptors will face the New Jersey Nets on March 4 and 5 at the O2 Arena.
The NBA has been looking to expand overseas for years, and Stern has said in the past he would like to play a meaningful game in London before the British capital hosts the Olympics in 2012.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Nets/Raps in March is a meaningful game?
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
That was my line
This may hurt the NBA’s global brand significantly given the poor quality of play.
Although I wonder what the Brits will think of Trout?
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
why are Brits going to this game?
what Stern should have done was had the games in Madrid or Barcelona and feature a team with a Spanish star.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Brits will go see the NFL every year
These games will sell out, London is too big a city for it not to.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
they like the NFL way more over there. i’m sure they’ll get a big crowd, but is there that big a market for the NBA in England?
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Again, not a huge one but London is a big enough city
To make it work.
I agree playing it in Barcelona or Madrid would have made a lot more sense though
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Nobody cares for the NFL aside from the Super Bowl (it's the only game that is on TV in most countries, unless on Pay-TV cable)
when i was over in England it seemed popular. they also get huge crowds for the games over there. the rest of Europe might not care as much, but i think the NFL is fairly popular in England. i’d guess it’s probably like their version of NHL in the US.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
It will sell out no doubt. NFL Europe got popular in the cities it was played in and drew 20-30k people tailgating.
And NFL Europe was like the d-league, though it did have a number of later NFL star players go through it. I also went to pretty sizable Super Bowl parties here. Only I know that in most countries the NFL doesn’t happen on free tv, and it doesn’t happen on basic cable. You have to be a subscriber to ESPN America (formerly NASN) which I am, or pay tv channels like Sky or Canal+. Only the Super Bowl is on free tv or basic cable in most countries. I think Austria has some of the playoffs on free tv, but that is the big exception and it’s a tiny market. When I was in Germany, they had Tom Nutten (St. Louis Rams) and Boris Becker (who knows nada about football aside from living in Miami) as color announcers. That’s the quality you get.
NBA games will also sell out. Not sure why they chose Raptors-Nets, maybe because their owners want to appeal to an international audience. You can bet that Prokorov can alone fill most of the luxury suites in the O2 arena with his guests and friends living in London or flying in.

Sometimes, I guess there just aren't enough rocks.
i bombed a couple science tests in undergrad but i usually did pretty well too. one time i did a 100 question multiple choice test in a speech class in about 30 minutes so i could get home quick to watch March Madness. i got an A too. that test was a joke.

yeah. it was pretty dumb. just parts of a speech, types of speeches, all that basic stuff.

My school has a policy that you can’t leave final exams until at least half the time has passed. Usually not a problem since you will need more, but one was an open book that you could write on the PC. I had pretty much written essays for all the questions from last year as well as book chapter and lecture summaries, so I just spent 2+ hours editing around.
ouch. that would suck.
that speech exam was for sure a rare case for me. i usually would take longer on exams.

back from lollapalooza!
it was a blast.
—Grizzly Bear was awesome. I was worried about their sound in a huge festival setting, but they were great.
—Mavis Staples was great, as I knew she would be, but what she’s doing at 70 years old is incredible.
—The Arcade Fire show was epic, unquestionably saved the best for last.
On the bad side—
—Lady Gaga (or the first 30 minutes) was boring. Her songs are decent but her schtick is stupid.
—The Strokes could do with some new material if they are going to keep headlining huge fests.
—MGMT was terrible.

i only really know one Arcade Fire song. that really popular one. the other stuff i heard of them, i wasn’t too taken with. they didn’t seem as up-beat as The Strokes did, musically. not as much energy is maybe a better way to say that.

The Strokes are definitely the band that hearkens back to older influences and seems to have the most arena-compatible sound of the sort of critically-acclaimed rock acts of the last decade. Vampire Weekend and Arcade Fire have better chart showings, but aren’t as muscular sounding. And nobody is talking about Kings of Leon or Muse saving modern rock, but I think that’s a matter of what critics think.
well what I think is that you know a lot more about music than i do.

I have to wonder what their new album would sound like
I loved Is this it, and liked Reptilia quite a lot, their third album was definitely weaker than the first two. I have to wonder what direction they will take their music. It might be that their sound just doesn’t have a lot of longevity, although I could be wrong. Kind of like Interpol.

Who the heck green-lighted this movie, spent money on it and thought it was a good idea? And why is it still on TV?

Can a Will include specific instructions on how to run a particular business, i.e. the Blazers in case PA dies?
I am just looking at this from Aldridge’s article:
http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/david_aldridge/08/08/morning.tip/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt1
Cho says: “When I met with (team president) Larry Miller and Mr. Allen, I saw the incredible commitment Mr. Allen has to winning,” Cho said. “Same with Larry. I can tell right away, in my first two weeks on the job, how much he loves the Blazers and how much he wants to win.”
Cho has no doubts that Allen will continue to okay spending whatever needs to be spent, including buying and hoarding future Draft picks, if it helps the Blazers win now and down the road. And with Allen’s largesse at his back, there’s no doubt that Cho will have the means to go as deep into the numbers, statistical and otherwise, as he wants. He has thought a lot about what he wanted to do when he got a job of his own, and now he’s got it, and he wants to build an organization that will be fluid, yet flexible enough to tolerate debate. Presumably, that includes Allen and his Vulcan Sports and Entertainment group.
Yes and no
As a practical matter the team would probably be sold fairly quickly.

After weeks of speculation about his status for next year, Rasheed Wallace indeed plans to retire, according to his agent, Bill Strickland.
Newest Celtic Shaquille O’Neal told reporters in Orlando this weekend that Wallace was rethinking his decision to retire and pleaded with the four-time All-Star to return for at least another season. Strickland told the Globe on Monday that his client will not return to the Celtics.
Following Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Wallace waited outside of the officials’ locker room at Staples Center to attempt to talk to official Dan Crawford, telling him that he had planned to retire and just wanted to have a conversation. Wallace hasn’t spoken publicly since the Finals but there has been mass speculation about whether he would stick to his retirement promise.

I have new respect for Donnie Walsh
In news that’s one part shocking and one part obvious, apparently there are important people in the Knicks’ hierarchy who aren’t too thrilled that the team has decided to bring Isiah Thomas back as a part-time consultant. Namely, Donnie Walsh.
The Knicks president was reportedly so angry that he nearly resigned, according to a report by Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
The Daily News has learned that Donnie Walsh considered resigning after Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan made the controversial move to hire Thomas, but Walsh decided to continue running the team despite his objections to Thomas having a role in the front office.
“Donnie finds this entire thing distasteful,” said one NBA source. “He’s had second thoughts about staying but he wants to finish the job.”
Walsh isn’t the only one in the Knicks brass upset at the decision, though.
Besides Walsh and Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni being against the move, Garden vice chairman Hank Ratner and Garden president Scott O’Neil voiced their displeasure but were overruled by Dolan, sources said.

He's an idiot

Our front office is fine really
With all that went on, we’re still in very good shape.
Btw, the move might get blocked by the NBA.
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/source_owners_rip_thomas_deal_IB9FyWuMq7Yhal65lbQApI
At least two NBA owners have complained to the league about the Knicks’ new arrangement with Isiah Thomas, who became their part-time consultant Friday while also remaining at FIU, according to a source.
One potential owner who might have complained is new Charlotte owner Michael Jordan, who is not a fan of Thomas, nor is Bobcats coach Larry Brown. The NBA is investigating whether Thomas’ contract conforms with NBA bylaws.
In a new rule installed four years ago, NBA front-office personnel are not permitted to scout high-school players unless competing in All-Star tournaments. Also, NBA personnel can’t have contact with college players until they declare for the draft.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
not surprising that they would look into that arrangement.
For everybody’s sake, I hope the NBA does block it.

Sunspots 1093 and 1092 are both large enough to see without the aid of a solar telescope. On August 7th, M. Raşid Tuğral caught them rising over Ankara, Turkey.
“After staying up all night, I couldn’t miss the sunrise,” says Tuğral. “I had my camera (a Canon 400D) ready when the sun appeared behind the mountain. I didn’t use any filter except thin cirrus clouds. The sunspots were a big suprise for me!”
Caution: Even when dimmed by clouds and haze, direct sunlight can hurt your eyes. If you try to take a picture like Tuğral’s, look only at the screen of your digital camera, not the optical viewfinder.

Normally I'm not a blame the coach kind of person
But I think he really deserves a lot of the blame for letting this team fall apart (his devotion to Rob Johnson alone was bad).
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
i think he should get a pass just based on how far below career averages some of the guys are. especially Figgins, who was supposed to be one of the main cogs in the “small ball” offense they were gonna need to employ. Jose Lopez is another one who’s under performing significantly. Fozzie probably did make some bad decisions along the way, but i think even if he does those things 100% right, this team isn’t much better than it is right now, if at all.

yeah, i think they’ll keep Jack Z. the only move that looks pretty bad is Figgins. but i think if they move Lopez and can put Figgins back at 3rd, that might help him a lot. still probably over payed slightly for Figgy, but this year isn’t very indicative of how good a player he is.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"

Luckily for Jack Z., the Chone Figgins signing is the only bad deal with real ...
negative long-term implications.
and presumably easily fixable as Figgins might be a player other teams would be interested in.
what i think will happen is Lopez will get traded, Figgins will move back to 3rd and he’ll start producing again.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
I'd like to move both of them.
Right now, I’d run Chone Figgins through waivers and hope some puts in a claim — such as the Chicago White Sox — and not pull him back. Yeah, I’d dump Figgins for nothing in return except financial relief.
Knowing Jerry Reinsdorf’s deep pockets and Kenny Williams old-school ways, the White Sox could make a play for Figgins. With Figgins, my guess is that Ozzie Guillen would put him in left field, move Juan Pierre to center field, move Alex Rios to right field, move defensive sieve Carlos Quentin to DH, move offensively impotent Mark Kotsay to the bench, and option the gritty Brent Lillibridge — who’s an Everett, WA native, UW grad, and been on a recent tear with the big league club, although he’ll regress soon — back down to Triple-A Charlotte.
At this point, I just want Figgins’ contract off the books. That way, the front office can head into the off-season with more flexibility to retool this team.

my girlfriend isn’t that bad. Maybe when she’s a grandma she will be. Target often has good clearance prices, I guess…
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
Yeah, the toys are really cheap.
We also always adopt a family or whatever at Christmas so she buys a bunch of toys for that too.
yep. i knew that.
asked my boss how to accomplish such a feat. gonna have to remember to do that tomorrow evening.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
i don’t know. i haven’t bought it yet.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
i’ll let you know after i buy it.
also, even if it is, i’ll probably season it anyway just to be on the safe side.
i’m just glad i don’t have to search around camping world or REI or something and probably pay more.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Target probably carries Lodge cast iron products. IMO they're
the best at a very reasonable price. Most of their products are pre-seasoned and really need nothing more than to be washed with hot water (NO SOAP, ever) and then rubbed with cooking oil on all surfaces. I have all kinds of cast iron cookware and I love it.
#52
I actually swish soap around in my cast iron stuff on a regular basis, and nothing terrible has happened yet.
well now i just don’t know what to believe.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
ok Timmay:
yes, it is pre-seasoned.
a 12" Lodge cast iron skillet. it is heavy. the guy at the register said he had a cast iron skillet that dated from around the civil war.
i think i’m gonna season it anyway. rub some vegetable oil on the skillet and then put it in the oven at 300 for an hour or 90 minutes.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
FWIW...
less smoke in the house if you oil it then put in on the BBQ outside…..first time I seasoned one in the house, I had the oven a wee bit too hot. Smoke and an angry wife were the consequences.
"I'm a man, but I can change.....if I have to......I guess." - Red Green
i don’t have a working BBQ :(
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
well that seriously crimps that plan.

Umpqua: "Just follow the dead government proof link to find out."
Will help things stick less when you finally use it
I usually run even my pre-seasoned pieces through the oven once before I use em
Blazers win!
for daily operation
just wash with hot water and a brush or something. No soap. Then heat it up real hot to dry it, and rub some type of oil on it. Nothing will ever stick to it.
yeah i know. we used to have one when i was a kid, but my dad got rid of it. and my grandpa got rid of his too. so now i need to buy a new one.
i like stuff with easy cleanup. water and paper towel and season once in a while and you’re all good. they are great.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
yeah. my grandma goes, “what’d you throw that away for.”
and grandpa says, “well no one’s used it in 20 years! why would i keep it around?”
at the time my dad was getting rid of stuff, it didn’t occur to me to keep that skillet. i’m not sure it was in the best shape anyway though.
someday maybe i’ll pass this new one along to my niece. hahahaha
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
I'd be cautious on the brand of the Cast Iron you're buying
I generally stick with Lodge, which is a little more expensive (100% made in the USA), but occasionally you can’t find pieces from them and you gotta go with the Chinese-made stuff.
In that case, I’d go with Camp Chef; they’re usually pretty reliable
Blazers win!
this one on the site says Lodge so it sounds like that’s a good choice. thanks for the advice.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Check prices;
You can find Lodge at Fred Meyers, Walmart, Wholesale Sports, really any camping site, Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy’s, etc. Just price check first to find the best deal. And if you can, get a lid for the skillet too
Blazers win!
well next time i have a question, i know who to ask. that’s always a good thing.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
it’s like 20 bucks. i’m fine with that.
i might get a lid in the future. shouldn’t need it for camping though.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
One note:
If you go with the 10 1/4" skillet, the lid will also fit the 10 1/4" deep skillet and the round griddle (although this one will be a bit loose).
There’s also a legless dutch oven that it will fit too.
You really should go with a 12" dutch oven though; you can cook anything with it

More details on Google/Verizon premium content deal
http://www.oregonlive.com/business/index.ssf/2010/08/verizon_google_outline_vision.html
Verizon and Google are saying that Internet service providers should be allowed to charge extra to route traffic from premium services over separate, dedicated networks.
Yet they still believe in prohibiting those providers from slowing, blocking or charging to prioritize regular Internet traffic.
Verizon Communications and Google announced their vision Monday following reports they having been talking to find common ground on such issues.
The companies also say these rules should apply only to wireline broadband networks, not wireless systems, which have more capacity constraints.

http://www.businessinsider.com/hp-ceo-mark-hurd-resigns-over-sexual-harrassment-accusations-2010-8
The CEO may or may not have had an affair with an employee, and it may or may not have involved sexual harassment (at first she seems to have threatened a lawsuit, but now says there was nothing), and it may or may not have involved misappropriation of expense accounts, and the employee in question was formerly an actress in R-rated movies as well as a political consultant, and now the fired CEO is all over the news and Twitter making remarks that it wasn’t as bad, and HP is still paying him a big severance package and just shaved $10 billion off their valuation since he was a good CEO, and…
I think ATF is happy she’s outta there, though it seems odd that now the company has lost two CEOs who became at odds with what some people on the board still consider the “HP way”.

hahaha – I used to sing that original song at the top of my lungs when I worked at a restaurant – after closing.
dooby-dooby-doot-doot-doot-awe-awe!!
When did the stupid wave of people reviewing videos on YouTube start?
I don’t care what some 12 year old thinks about a song. I want to hear the song. Those should all be prosecuted by lawyers of the entertainment industry for diminishing the brand of the artist since 99% of them suck.

I'm actually finding myself going to Vimeo lately when I want to find something that is popular. Often better quality picture and better results.
YouTube is just full of junk clogging up the results for what you really want to find, like Google or Ebay back in the day

Hey DTL, any ideas when you'll want to see Breathless?
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
either the 16th, 18th, or 19th. most likely would be the 19th. then i’ll see Public Enemy (the first Messrine movie) on the 21st.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
well, alright, man.
let me know when you figure decide which day, and I’ll probably head out there with you. I’ve been resisting watching it on my instant queue since I’d rather see the restored version in the theater
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
let’s just say the 19th then. 7pm show.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
sounds good to me.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
ugh GB, guess what?
I falling asleep the way you were a couple of days ago. Or maybe it was yesterday. I need a nap so badly.
that sucks, man.
do you have the luxury of time for a nap? if so, you should take one. I did not on Friday, unfortunately. Maybe do some jumping jacks. you’ll look like a dork but it really works.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
I have to pick my siblings up pretty soon.
Then I have to make them lunch. Then I might be able to take nap.
Sooo tired and head achey though.
aww, that's cool though.
I took care of my lil sister’s a lot up until I moved out. I still go back home and take car of my sister with down’s syndrome once in a while. I guess you could take 92’s advice and stick your tongue in a socket…(please don’t, I like you).

I make everyone Breathless just by walking in a room.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
Wow, this is actually sensible
The Seattle Mariners have not retired any uniform numbers. Official team policy states that number retirement is reserved for players in the National Baseball Hall of Fame who played for at least five years with the Mariners, or career Mariners players whose name appears at least once on the Hall of Fame ballot.
Despite not officially retiring any numbers, the team has not reissued the numbers 11 (Edgar Martínez), 14 (Lou Piniella), or 19 (Jay Buhner) to any uniformed staff since the last player to have worn the number left the team. Number 51, worn by Randy Johnson, was withheld from players from 1998 until 2001, when it was awarded to Ichiro Suzuki upon his request after wearing it for his entire career in Japan. 24 was not issued from the time Ken Griffey, Jr. left the team after the 1999 season until it was re-issued to him when he returned in 2009.
they’ll end up retiring 24 and 51 for sure.
11 will either get retired or never reissued. not sure what will happen with Buehner though. he for sure isn’t making the HoF so they might reissue that number. if someone good enough comes along. which, honestly, wouldn’t be that difficult to imagine.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
I think it has to.
They’re both Seattle legends, and both have high odds of reaching the HoF.
I wonder what hat Randy would wear.
me too.
won Cy Youngs and his ring with them. he has to go in as a D’Back. he’ll be the first D’Back to go in too.
what will be really interesting is to see what Schilling goes in to the HoF as.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
either that or D’Backs.
i think it’ll probably be Red Sox too. because i believe the Bloody Sock is what ultimately will get him in to the HoF anyway.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Yep. He's forever tied for his work breaking the curse.
He’s never bought a meal in Boston since then, I presume.
I don’t think Schilling is a total lock for the HOF, but if he makes it I agree he’ll choose a Red Sox hat.
if he’s not a first ballot lock, i think he’d get in on the 2nd or 3rd try.
like Timmay says, his performance in the Break the Curse Year is what will get him in.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
very debatable.
what about Smoltz?
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
another fairly tough call. I’d probably vote no on Smoltz also. I’m a fan of high HOF standards. Among pitchers not yet eligible, only Johnson, Maddux, Clemens and Pedro would get my vote.
i could imagine a scenario where Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine all go in at the same time. that’d be kinda cool.
i can’t remember if Glavine won 300 or not. of those three, though, i think Glavine is the one i’d leave out. Smoltz’s years as a dominant closer, in my opinion, warrant his inclusion.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
Glavine did get to 300.
Maddux is a mortal lock while Glavine and Smoltz are both cases where reasonable minds can disagree.
if Glavine got to 300 he’s in. that’s a HoF magic number. i’d say he’s a lock.
Smoltz, i agree, is very debatable. i’d put him in but that’s just me. the baseball HoF is sorta wack anyway. they really need to do a tiered system like Simmons suggested.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
i think it is on my schedule.
i’m gonna ambush him at the airport terminal.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
you leave on the 16th, yes?
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
see you then.
i’m practicing my nunchucks tonight.
you’ve been warned.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
This reminds me of the funniest fight I ever saw while in high school
1978, out front of Grants Pass High School.
Two guy were squaring off for a fight ….when one of the kids whips out a pair chucks….he starts doing a whole bunch of razzal-dazzel crap while the other guy just kinda stood there looking at it him…around the back …..switching hands …between the legs (I was kinda hoping he would rack himself in the nutz…but what actually happened was better) and finally, in this big show of intimidation, he snapped them right in the dude’s face (about an inch from his nose)….guy never even blinked…he just reached out and snatched them out of the 1st guy’s hands ….threw them onto the roof of the school and proceeded to beat the livin’ crap out the nunchuck dude….all while about 75 kids watched…it was classic.

but if I had to guess, Glavine, Smoltz, Schilling, Pettitte and possibly Mussina will also get in. The likes of Halladay and Santana still have some work to do I think.
i would agree with those.
also, unless you were just talking SP specifically, you forgot Sandman. he’s a first ballot lock.
i agree on Halladay and Santana. of those two, i’d say Halladay’s chances are much better than Johan’s.

What do you guys think about trading Rudy for San Antonio's first rounder?
They have a legit chance of falling into the lottery with how strong the west is plus a couple dark horse teams, and they have Manu at SG and he’s oft injured, so it’d be enticing to them to have a solid backup, and Rudy would get plenty of minutes.
What say you?
Could work for both sides, but I don’t think San Antonio will fall off quickly, so it would better be one that is a few years out.

San Antonio will make the playoffs this year… I think if we trade Rudy, I want a proven player at this point, not a draft pick unless it’s nearly guaranteed at least late lottery… I want to know what I’m getting, not be surprised. I think at this point the likely scenario is Rudy at least starts the year in Portland, and may end up happy if Miller/Bayless are traded in a consolodation play and he slides into a regular role

I am currently undertaking a project of music through my life and making a giant playlist
by going through all of my old harddrives/i-pods/cd’s/mixtapes and figuring out how I arrived at certain genres of music and what it led to me listening to next. Starting out with what my Dad had me listen to when I was young like Queen/Roy Orbison/ Tom Petty/ Zepplin and moving from there.
this sounds both daunting and High Fidelity-esque
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
I love High Fidelity.
both the book and the movie.
also, we went and hung out in the Sellwood neighborhood yesterday. spend about 4 hours walking and shopping. We had coffee at Ugly Mug(it was very delicious) and lunch at the Oaks Bottom Public House, where I had a tasty beer but subpar food. Muddy Rudder is basically my neighbor. Any thoughts on that place?
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
Muddy rudder is the pizza place I told you about… great pizza, good changing beer selection, decent sandwiches and salads (for your lady)… my only complaint about Ugly Mug is that they don’t have a 20oz option for their coffee… I’m American, I need 20oz’s (with the proper ratio of espresso of course)
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
oh, that's right.
haha. I still have all those shops you mentioned written down in a notebook, but I didn’t have it with me yesterday. We looked at the menu yesterday, but only briefly.
And yeah, a lack of a 20oz would not really be bad for me, ever since I cut wayyyy down on coffee I barely finish a 12oz these days.
It did have a very strong “stumptown” feel to it, with the more expensive drinks and the pretty bones looking menu. I was worried the barista would be a punk but she was actually very nice.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
Lovecup on 13th & Umatilla is where the lady and I usually go. They have a good selection of scones/pastries and some sandwiches (and you can while away the hours trying to guess which customer is me)

I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
Yeah, a few other people we know who live there or that spend a lot of time in that neighborhood have said Love Cup is the place to go. My girlfriend is a pastry person, so I’m sure she will like that place. She’s very excited to be so close to a Grand Central.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
High Fidelity is one of my favorite movies.
never read the book though.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
yeah, one of my faves as well
you should check out the book someday when you need a new book. Nick Hornby is an excellent writer.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
I’ve only read the ones of his which are not movies… Dunno why, but that’s how it worked out
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
ha, that's interesting.
I’ve read everything but his young adult novel, which I own, but just haven’t tackled yet.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
which one is that? I’m only familiar with High Fidelity, About a Boy, Long way down and How to be good…
I'm a grown man stuck inside the mind of a 3 year old
It's called "Slam"(had to double check).
I think it’s about a boy getting his girlfriend preggo when they’re too young for a baby, or something. If you like what you’ve read you might want to try out “Juliet, Naked.” It’s his newest one and it’s vintage Hornby, so I liked it a lot.
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

I'm not a big fan of the Seattle M's naming Daren Brown as the field manager.
Not only did Brown have a good thing going with the Tacoma Rainiers this season — which should’ve been taken into account with a mid-season move — but he also has no experience managing or even coaching a MLB team.
I’d’ve named John Boles as the interim manager, for he’s currently a baseball operations assistant to GM Jack Z. — as well as has past managerial experience in both the majors and minros — who could’ve gone into the clubhouse and directly communicated the front office’s directive to the players themselves. That way, there’d’ve been no disconnect.
I think I've seen one M's game since i moved here
I miss them but don’t care to watch them these days.
Two straight years I canceled plans to get the M's season pass
They’ve disappointed so often, it’s been hard to invest to see them stink all year.
I just hate how in Oregon we are force fed Seattle sports

"I'm a man, but I can change.....if I have to......I guess." - Red Green
I'm with GB
Mostly because the NFL forces us to watch their games even when they are truly awful (like the last 2 seasons) rather than better games on at the same time.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
That's one way to look at it....
and it is perfectly valid. So is my way, which is I am a Washington resident….I watch the only local stations I can get (in Oregon). I want to watch Seahawks football….because they are my local team.
Local broadcasts are a part of every sport. And Seattle is more local than Oakland, SF or Denver.
"I'm a man, but I can change.....if I have to......I guess." - Red Green
But the NFL is unique in that you cannot watch any team other your local team
Unless you pay Direc TV a lot of $.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
huh?
I see TONS of games on each week without the Seahawks. There are 6 games each weekend (2 AFC, 2 NFC- 1 of which has tee Seahawks), one Sunday night game and one Monday night game. 5 out of 6 games without the “local” team.
Now it is true that you can;t follow one specific team from across the country without paying Direct TV or the like….but that’s the same with all sports.

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
haha.
I don’t hate the Seahawks by any means, I just don’t care for them, at all. And the fact that I’m force fed their games every season if I don’t want to go to a bar for football is beyond annoying. My team is barely ever on local TV, anyways though.

Everyone that holds a bat
on the Mariner roster deserves some blame.
"I'm a man, but I can change.....if I have to......I guess." - Red Green
Rather than trade for the weak bat of Casey Kotchman, ...
the Seattle M’s should’ve instead decided to bite the bullet and re-signed Russell Branyan—no matter his bad back.
The one-year, $1.5 million deal — which has a $5,000,000 mutual option for a second season, even though that’ll get bought out for $500,000 — was a fair contract for the aging, injury prone Branyan, who still has pop in his bat in spite of his bad back.
On the other hand, though, re-signing the glass arm of Erik Bedard and giving the oft-injured Jack Wilson a two-year contract were bad ideas. Bedard should’ve been shown the door, while a one-year, $5,000,000 deal — with incentives for plate appearances — was all that I’d’ve offered Wilson. Rather than retain Wilson, I’d’ve almost wished the M’s had instead signed a more durable shortstop like, oh, Orlando Cabrera.
In addition, y’all should already know how I wanted Orlando Hudson here on a one-year, $5,000,000 contract instead of overpaying Chone Figgins. With Adrian Beltre leaving, Jose Lopez heading over to third base, and Dustin Ackley being developed as a second baseman in the minors, a talented and productive stopgap like Hudson would’ve been a more prudent signing than making a long-term investment in the overpriced Figgins.
On a side note, though, I give Jack Z. a ton of kudos for the Cliff Lee acquisition, since that was a masterful move — as was subsequent flipping of him for good value, even though Justin Smoak has yet to produce — while the Milton Bradley trade was just fine in theory despite coming up short on the field. Bradley, by the way, should likely be given his outright release this off-season, unless some ballclub is willing to take him on — even though the M’s would have to foot the bill on his 2011 salary — for a mediocre prospect in return.
Also, I 100% fault Howard Lincoln and Chuck Armstrong for the Ken Griffey, Jr. fiasco, am not sure who thought bringing back the washed-up Mike Sweeney was worth it, and can’t fault anyone except the pitchers themselves for the bullpen imploding on itself this season. Jack Z. at least didn’t seek out and overpay for bullpen arms like morons such as, oh, Ed Wade or Omar Minaya.
Regarding Brandon League, however, I think that Jack Z. got too little value in return for Brandon Morrow. The same thing could also be said for what the team got in return for Jeff Clement and Ronny Cedeno last year — even though I’m glad they’re gone — as Wilson has been injury prone and Ian Snell was downright horrendous. In all fairness to Jack Z., though, I loved the acquisition of Wilson at the time.
maybe Felix likes throwing to Rob Johnson.
"My love winks, she does not bother / She knows too much to argue or to judge"
That's why Jack Z. needed to demote Rob Johnson, which he did.
Regardless of his immense pitching talent, Felix Hernandez can’t run around calling the shots regarding personnel and his battery mate.
By the way, here's an interesting article by Geoff Baker in which ...
he intervews Roger Hansen about Rob Johnson.
As I said earlier, I’m glad to see Hansen getting a chance at being a bench coach — especially for Adam Moore’s sake — yet, if Johnson’s hip issues are a chronic problem that’ll hinder him on defense as a catcher, then the organization should DFA him and clear his spot on the 40-man roster.
I’d also like to see the team DFA older relief pitchers like Jamey Wright and Brian Sweeney — who are both in their late-’30s — and recall two youngsters from Tacoma like Anthony Varvaro and Edward Paredes.

I don't want a blowhard like Bobby Valentine as the manager, but I wouldn't be surprised if Howard ...

since this is a thread about crying in movies (and, i never have really cried, i just get choked up) in Friday Night Lights, when Boobie Gibson gets in the car with his grandfather and starts crying because he doesn’t know what else he’s going to be able to do, that part sort of gets to me.

Are there more US movie theaters with fixed seat numbers these days?
I was always surprised that even big theaters didn’t have those. It’s so basic now at most cineplexes in Europe that you can reserve your exact seat online or at the counter. And unlike in the airline industry, I can’t see much of a cost advantage for the theaters while making things much less interesting for people who book early. More walk-on customers, less “planning” to go to the movies?
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
I have never been to a theater with fixed seats. I would like it though. I would pay extra for guaranteed good seats.

Hey, a new marketing opportunity
Screw 3D, offer fixed seats ;-)
I dunno, for at least a decade it’s totally standard at cinemas in Europe unless they are very small or artsy. I think it originated at a cineplex in Belgium or Amsterdam, but now it’s all over and not just in major cities. Online systems at ticket kiosks, and also at the counter they’ll tell you what is still available. Especially if you are not a large group and/or book early, that makes it very convenient. For Avatar the ticket system at the cinema I wanted to go to with a friend broke down, making that the only time in recent memory (outside of the US) I went to the counter not knowing where I would sit and if I still could get in.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
Although of course we have services like Fandango
That allow you purchase tickets early, but not for specific seats.

Yup. Multiplexes have big movie premiers on up to 10 screens or so.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
And when I saw movies in the UK
You could not only buy reserved seating but they charged more of premier reserved seats (center mid-way back seats with large cupholders and whatnot).
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
It was standard
I was asked “circle or stalls” when I bought tix.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I think I pay 50 cents as a surcharge
I would be surprised if US movie theater operators like Lowe’s/AMC aren’t aware of this. Maybe buying behavior is just different in the US, though I wonder why a bit. The trailer pre-shows also were pretty long by European standards, though that differs a bit from the time and the movie.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
The preshows are real long in the US
They used to just run slide shows of ads before movies, now they are all official and whatnot.
E.g. Regal’s is called “THE TWENTY”
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I HATE commercials in the theater so much
I remember before Cinemark bought Century they used to advertise “the only big theater in town with no commercials!” Needless to say, I went to Century a whole lot more than Regal

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I don't really mind movie commercials. They are often the longer versions.
I do like to skip the ‘local ads’ and slideshows though by coming a bit late. And the ice cream ads have become comical, since nobody seems to buy sweets anymore within the cinema since they have the stands outside.

Some chains are pretty brutal about not bringing food in
I went to a movie in Chicago once and they were not letting any outside food in.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
From their own concessions?
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
Yup like most sports facilities in the US
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Remember that is of course where the movie theaters make most of their $
At least in the US, they got a much higher margin off concessions than the movies themselves.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
They do make more money off the film, the longer it's in the theater
Their percentage of profit increases if a movie has legs.
Now, as you move into the second and third weeks of release, the percentage starts to swing to anywhere from 45% – 55% that the theatre gets to keep. It gets better after the fourth week when theatres generally can keep up to 80% or better of the ticket sales.
Okay cool
But the margins on food are ridiculous all the time.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Theatres also hurt themselves of course
By WAY overexpanding in recent years.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Yeah probably, especially on drinks which are the highest margin items in all of fast food
That’s the same in Europe, since those are also all overpriced. I rarely buy much if any food in the cinema, though in some multiplexes they have good restaurants to meet before or after a movie which probably pay some part of their rent to the cinema operator.
Here they also try to sell you ice cream and other sweets (not popcorn or nachos or such) as the very last spot before the movie IN the theater, which was pretty popular when I was a kid but now has become obsolete with the concession stands.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
I'd personally find it unacceptable to pay extra for good seats in an empty theater
So I’d fall under the list who would simply not buy tickets because I feel they’re being greedy. The concept of supply and demand says I shouldn’t pay extra when the demand is 10 people.
This is why I try to go to movies midday on Fridays a few weeks after they come out
Cheaper tickets for afternoon shows and not so busy..
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
We pick earlier showings when possible, a few weeks after release.
So if they charged me extra for that, when it’s not full, I’d feel they’re just being greedy.
It totally depends. E.g. I think at my usual go-to places tickets are reduced for Tuesdays which is a low traffic day. Movies generally premiere on Thursdays here though I’ve also seen launches on Wednesdays (sometimes beginning or going over midnight to make it Thursday) or the weekend.
I found the system of having no fixed seat not a big problem for the couple of movies I went to in the US the last 2 years, but just an oddity. I don’t mind paying a bit more to know before that I can get my tickets by walking up to a kiosk 30 minutes before and just pick them up.
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
You CAN pay extra (usually $1/ticket)
TO use Fandango or whatnot to make sure you have seats to a movie if not specific seats.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Well I would like to have both
Then I can still decide if I really really need to see the movie that day in a not so good seat
"Listening to the media only increases your odds of failing at whatever you are doing" - Mark Cuban
Except for having to line up hours before shows to get seats
Bit annoying.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
And walk inside and someone brought 18 pieces of clothing to save seats, and will fight you for them.

All seem to remind me…

To the Creature Without a Head
Once I was so happy
My girl and I were one
Everything seemed ok
Until that summer night
when that radioactive cloud
came down and absorbed her head away
We’ll meet in the darkness
in our secret place
She has a great body
so who needs a face
True love is romantic

I just found out today that an old friend was murdered this last February. I had no idea. He and I hadn't seen eachother in a while due to new GF's. He was an amazing drummer and person. He loved music. Playing with him was a dream.
He and I bonded about 7-8 years ago when a good friend of ours died from cancer. Kipp was one of the nicest people you would ever meet. I am rocked by this. He was murdered by someone who pushed him into traffic whilst riding his bike, then robbed, then left for dead in the street. Police are still looking for any leads. Case will probably go unsolved forever. Tragic. Sorry to get all emotional on here. I just needed to vent a little. Everyone pour a little beer out for this amazing person.

That is the hardest thing to understand
That the oil not only drys up….but that it also gets pushed down the lanes. So when making adjustments that has to be taken into account …and sometimes you have to move far enough left (for a righty) to get enough oil on the front ends to hold the line….but dry enough on the back end to finish hard (and not deflect)….glad you found it.

there is so much analyzing that goes on in a bowlers head. throwing the ball is only a small part of the actual game. most of the game is done in the bowlers head.
Sometimes, I guess there just aren't enough rocks.
Soo true....then reading the lanes ...and adjusting accordingly
of course none of this is visible to someone watching (live or on TV)…..so the spectator is just saying: “Hey! I could do that”…without having a real clue what is going on

I thought the way Scorsese did the big reveal scene sort of made it seem like you aren’t meant to be certain if he was just being tricked or not. With the earlier reveal that they will do anything to make you and the world believe that you are insane(which we are later led to believe was his imagination) it seems like perhaps he was sane and was simply being tricked. And his final line, along the lines of “is it better to live as a monster than to die a good man?” made me think more.
I’m probably just over thinking it though.. The twist seemed TOO predictable to me, especially since I respect Scorsese as a director quite a bit.
Who knows?!!
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
I thought he was indeed crazy and he realized it at the end, but as he said he would rather die with the illusion of his own creation
I was pretty sure that’s what happened. I thought it was kind of predictable, and there were some definite campy moments in that movie. It was definitely a 7/10 ish type movie for me. I appreciated the timing of the release though, post Oscar season is a mess.
Personally, I think many people have illusions of grandeur, feelings of self-motivated self-importance. I think most people who feel that they don’t have a greater purpose in life resort to that type of thinking as a safety mechanic-ism

WORD UP.STAY.FRESCO
Yeah, I liked the underlying plot.
I think I’m just defending it, perhaps(probably) irrationally because I like Scorsese and DiCaprio a lot. I think 7/10 is a very fair rating and is probably about what I would give it.

We just re-watched Harry Potter 6 tonight
We saw it last year in the theater but they had technical problems so it was a frustrating viewing (at least they gave us vouchers afterward).
What a long movie. I think I got distracted by the technical problems and didn’t notice last time. I was thinking “Is this thing ever going to end??” …an hour before it ended.
haha, yeah, the HP movies start getting really long after about the 4th one.
I still love them though. I’m such a giggidy little Harry Potter fan boy. I’ve been wanting to rewatch the 6(I have all the blu rays) but haven’t really known when to. And I watched 3 with riff trax for a friends birthday last month, so now I kind of feel like it won’t be as enjoyable to watch it again so soon.

It kind of got ingrained in me last semester, the dining hall right by my dorm lists calories for all the food, so I could easily keep count during a day.
It’s harder to keep count at home but since I have been running all the time I don’t feel as bad about it. My issue now is making sure I don’t lose anymore weight, I’m a little less than 140 now.

It doesn’t suck at all though. Sure there are some times when I brood on my own, but I often don’t waste any time once I have my motivation and quickly complete the tasks. I also get over most failures pretty quickly and easily. I do like the feeling of being motivated a lot…

to answer your question,
sometimes, but I think it’s tasking if that’s your only motivation. I think that mentality requires you to focus more on the negatives, whereas focusing on the positives of life would make the process that is life more enjoyable.
Somewhat
I am a pretty self motivated person, in things I care about I get pretty competitive. One of the reasons I painted a lot at first was out of competition with one of my friends (he also painted). I also think I carry around a sort of self-importance, I am pretty confident in the things I see reason to be confident in, and I want to prove the excellence I think I possess.

Well I don't think legalizing drugs in Mexico would really help much
since from what I understand of the situation they are just the transit country to the much more lucrative market of the US. I definitely think legalizing weed would be a good idea, since the drug is fairly harmless and at this point is very socially acceptable.
Legalizing harder drugs doesn’t seem morally acceptable since they have serious addictive and physically debilitating effects.
I also think in countries less transparent than the US, the corruption from legalized sales of drugs would cause issues.
Garden Variety Internet Denizen. Play Jerryd Bayless.
WORD UP.STAY.FRESCO
A lot of the drugs that are in Mexico end up in the USA. The Cartels are fighting for the right to trade with Americans.
At least that’s what I think is happening. So legalizing in Mexico would not make a big difference since it would still be illegal and in demand in our country. I could be wrong.
Love.
You do have a point...
as long as drugs are illegal here in the US there will still be a huge black market for them. Which means that these cartels will still be fighting over their share of that black market.

Notable omissions
- Kahn hired a coach well versed in the triangle offense
- Kahn has since brought in players who are not suited to play the triangle offense
- In two years, Kahn has used three high lottery picks to bring in a marginal PG, a marginal prospect at SF and a talented PG who won’t be a rookie until two years after he was selected (which would not have happened had he fallen to NY for example)
- He just traded last years backup PG right as last years starter was ruled out for an extended period. At least Ridnour will get his minutes now.
- He thinks Martell Webster can play SG
- He thinks Darko can be compared to Divac
- He thinks Michael Beasley will stop smoking pot
- He paid a European big man who gets 3.5 rebounds a game more than the R.C. Buford paid the Spanish League MVP
That enough?
| MC2PDX | Horf2PDX | Cho4GM | Griff4AGM | JVG4HC | 1/5
I think most of your points are wrong.
1- Yes he did. Not a bad idea.
2- No he didn’t. He mostly traded away players who didn’t fit the triangle. Al Jefferson was the worst fit. Kudos for getting rid of him. Then he added some players who will definitely fit. Darko, Ridnour, Beasley and Webster will work just fine. Rubio remains to be seen. Flynn is pretty much the only player still on the roster who definitely doesn’t fit the triangle. The Flynn pick was really his only glaring mistake.
3- That’s probably not true. Rubio couldn’t afford his buyout and there was wide speculation he wasn’t coming over unless he was selected in the top three. Taking a risk on Rubio is one of smartest, long sighted moves he could have made.
4- So he traded a PG who doesn’t fit the triangle for one that does? Good for him. Ridnour is a perfect player to eventually back up Rubio.
5- Webster probably can’t play SG, unless it’s next to an extremely high usage player like Rubio. I don’t think getting Webster was a bad idea even if he can’t play SG, which is possible. Even then he’s a fine backup or starting SF.
6- People intentionally mischaracterized his statements in the Webber interview. He was simply making a point about players blossoming when they get into the right situation. Chris Webber is friends Kevin Mchale and was clearly trying to pick a fight. Darko is criminally underrated.
7- Maybe he will stop smoking pot. It wouldn’t be the first time a young person quit smoking weed.
8- That’s not how things work. Just because the Spurs got an great deal doesn’t mean Darko is grossly overpaid. One has nothing to do with the other. Again, Darko is soooo underrated at this point.

I'm just going to agree to disagree here
If you think Kahn has done a good or even decent job then I’m not on board with what you are selling.
Not trying to dismiss your argument but I don’t think a back and forth would lead anywhere productive.
Last thought: Love is great for the triangle, Ridnour and Webster should be OK, the rest of the roster I just don’t see it, especially Beasley. The guys whole point in that article was that Kahn had set the Timberpups up as a small ball, running team…..but he didn’t mention he hired a coach who wants to run the triangle.

Plane crash in AK carrying some notable folks
A plane carrying nine people — including former Sen. Ted Stevens and former NASA Administrator Sean O’Keefe — crashed in southwest Alaska, killing five people on board, authorities said Tuesday.
It was unclear whether Stevens or O’Keefe were among the dead.
Reports from officials in Alaska were that nine people were aboard the aircraft and that “it appears that there are five fatalities,” NTSB spokesman Ted Lopatkiewicz told The Associated Press in Washington.

Alaska is a crazy place, though, for its citizens keep re-electing corrupt politicians like Cogressman Don Young, have a thing for nepotism (e.g., U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s father paved her way to D.C. and U.S. Sen. Nick Begich’s father was a famous former Congressman), and love backing far-right wingnuts like Sarah Palin.
AK and Hawaii are political opposites
But both are similar in one way, one-party states (AK is R, HI D) that are thoroughly corrupt as a result.

I was looking thru craigslist at the job openings.....and saw this one
Satellite Installation Technician (Portland, OR)
Sounds like a cool job…..I would think the hardest part is probably the Astronaut Training
Umpqua: "Just follow the dead government proof link to find out."
This story just gets crazier
The plane had just landed, but he was ready to take off.
A JetBlue flight attendant blew his top, grabbed some beer and bolted out an emergency slide at Kennedy Airport Monday – then headed home to have sex with his boyfriend.
After he was bonked in the head by a bag, Steven Slater stunned passengers by spewing profanity and ranting about quitting as the flight from Pittsburgh pulled up to the gate about noon.
“To the f——-g a—hole who told me to f—k off, it’s been a good 28 years,” Slater, 38, purred, cops said. “I’ve had it. That’s it,” he added, a passenger said.
The mad-as-hell steward grabbed a couple of brewskis and popped one open before activating the emergency exit, witnesses told airport employees.
After tossing his two carry-on bags on the slide, he followed them to the tarmac.
Slater – who actually first started working for airlines 20 years ago, not 28 – then walked to the AirTrain, stripped off his company tie and flung it off as bemused passengers watched.

That's the same story NBC had last night, with a few details like that it was a male boyfriend which only was insinuated before

And did he finish his beer?
That was a dumb move, he stole company property

He might be facing 7 years in jail for this
Tampering with a safety device (the slide) is a significant crime and it should be.

People complain that O'Brien was dissing Portland in a comedy routine. They should rather complain about the NBA ignoring the Blazers.

In this long Timberlake vs. Foxx spot, there is no mention of the Blazers as a potential playoff winner, and only a tiny BRoy buzzer beater in the cut clips. There’s more Bucks than Blazers in there.

You know whom the NBA is ignoring instead
The Mavericks, they had 0 games announced in last week’s partial release…

Maybe Cuban made a remark at the last owners meeting in Las Vegas ;-)
I doubt they’ll get ignored. And even if they have few national games, FSN > Comcast NW.

Maybe on access
But on quality of broadcasts and all that FSN<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Comcast NW. Seriously, the camera and image quality alone on CSN is far better than on FSN even in what is supposed to be comparable HD.

FSN Texas/SW/whatever the name can afford to have a good pre and post game show, 2-3 announcers, and a sideline reporter

And with Cuban as the head of HD Net, I'm pretty sure he has made it clear in what quality he wants Mavs games produced

Saw Inception last night.
I enjoyed it but I kept getting the feeling that I was watching the filmic adaption of a book. Many parts of the plot felt too rushed for me and it seemed like there were several very small scenes that could have been stretched into longer chapters. I also wish they got a lot more convoluted/surreal with the dream worlds/dream logic. Also, this (spoilers)
Lol

Spencer, 39, has been the front runner for the position since shortly after he interviewed with team owner Merritt Paulson and general manager Gavin Wilkinson in December.
As previously announced, Wilkinson will step down as coach, but remain as general manager/technical director in 2011.
The Timbers interviewed a number of other candidates, including former Chicago Fire coach Denis Hamlett, but Spencer, considered one of the hot assistant coaches in MLS, was the guy they wanted.
